Bev Collins purchased this house boat in 1990
We love being on the boat.
It is really fun being in the marina with all it has to offer. And the sunsets and sunrises are beautiful!
Great location and wonderful breeze at night for sleeping onboard. Will possibly spend more time on St. Croix and definitely contact Beverly again for staying on the Tradewinds.
This was our first visit to St. Croix. It is a hidden jewel! Even driving on the left wasn't an issue.
We were impressed from the moment we drove into the marina! The grounds are neat and clean; the folks in the marina are friendly and helpful.
Tradewinds is a great place to spend a week (or longer). She's a beautiful, old 42' trawler with loads of great views from all angles. Sunrises and sunsets are amazing from the flybridge of the boat. When you do go inside, the boat is clean, spacious and comfortable. The teak interior is beautiful! Sleeping at night with the fans and open ports is fantastic. I had thought it might get warm, but not the case.
As a guest, you get to enjoy all of the amenities of Tamarind Reef Resort, including paddleboards, kayaks, beach chairs and cabanas! There are 2 restaurants onsite. We enjoyed many meals in the Deepwater Grill and Galleon Restaurant.
I have saved the best for last! Bev, the owner, is terrific! She answered all of our questions prior to our leaving home, and met us at Tradewinds upon arrival to show us the ship's systems! She is a wealth of information about the island and provides her guests with a guide to local sites, activities and dining from her experiences! Bev is an absolute delight to stay with! You will not go wrong renting from Bev!!!
Our decision to spend a week on Tradewinds with Bev, while enjoying St. Croix and her people have made this our best vacation ever! We expect to visit St. Croix (and Bev) again before retiring to the island!
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay on Tradewinds!! A very good way to "try out" on board living before taking the plunge! Bev is a wonderful host and made me feel right at home. A lovely beach near by and great places to eat as well. I hope to come back sometime!
The boat was nice. The marina it was in was even better. Free use of kayaks, snorkel gear and tiki lounges saved us a lot of money. Best restaurant/bar around there too.
Chip and Bev were very nice. One of my best vacations ever.
An adventure in St. Croix! Bev, the owner, is just wonderful and was incredibly helpful: she took us to the grocery to pick up food, drove us to the airport and even lent us her extra phone so that we could make calls as needed during our stay. The boat is beautiful, well maintained, and comfortable; there are tons of towels, ample kitchen supplies, and the master bed was surprisingly comfortable. The boat was quite warm during the day, but with fans and open windows, sleep was comfortable at night. There is a tv, dvd player, and sound system on the boat; we were able to hook up our bluetooth to the sound system to listen to music throughout the boat, but there were only 2 or 3 channels that worked on the antenna based tv, so if you want to watch stuff, definitely bring some dvds. Wifi in the marina is sketchy at best, but if you need connection to the outside world, its an 8 minute walk to Tamarind Reef Resort where they have pretty good wifi, and wonderful (free!) tiki huts, lounge chairs, kayaks, etc. Cabs in the area can get expensive (and don't run after 9pm!!) so we'd highly recommend getting a rental car to get around (driving is on the left side but not treacherous like many other Caribbean Islands). We truly had a wonderful time on this lovely boat...and you can't beat seeing the stars from the roof deck at night!
Loved staying on Tradewind, a great alternative to hotel rooms. Having use of the amenities at Tamarind Reef Resort and the marina were a nice bonus. Would definitely do this again.
