This home is hard to describe with words! Conveniently located 2 miles east of Packwood, Washington and 2 ½ hours from either Portland or Seattle. From the house it is only a 20 minute drive to White Pass Ski Resort which has double in size this year with over 700 acres of skiing, 2 new lifts and a mid mountain lodge.
With Two Master Suites, a third bedroom with a queen bed, a double futon in the media room and two single futons in the loft area (for children only), this home can easily be shared by two families.
Being built right on the Cowlitz River and having an incredible view of Mt. Rainier are only two of this home’s amazing amenities. The hot tub is close to river for you to relax in after a long day of hiking or skiing. An outdoor fire pit is ready for roasting marshmallows. A media room is waiting for you with the latest electronic entertainment equipment. When it comes time to cook, you will find the fully equipped kitchen a wonderfully place to cook and entertain. Or if you wish, you can cook on the gas BBQ outside. A gas fireplace in the living room will make your evenings very enjoyable.

AMAZING! We will be back!
The pictures do not do this place justice! My family (3 couples, 2 toddlers, and my mom) stayed here the first weekend in January for a belated Christmas celebration. The house was spacious, but cozy. All of us had plenty of room of our own, but downstairs was also a great place to be together. The location was perfect. We went up to White Pass for the afternoon on Saturday, and it was only about a 20-25 minute drive up. The house was well stocked with pots, pan, dishes, utensils, etc. It was very clean and well maintained. The view of the river was awesome. Unfortunately it was foggy/cloudy all weekend, so we did not get to see the mountain, but we were told the view is awesome. The caretaker, Jim, was very nice and made sure we had everything we needed and enjoyed our stay. I would love to come back in the summer months when we could enjoy the outdoor space more. If it is available, we will definitely be back next winter. The only ( very minor) negative we had was that we arrived after it was dark, and it is very hard to see the turn off from the road. There is no clear sign, and all of us missed it and had to turn around the first time. During the day, it was no issue. Definitely recommend this house!
Great spot summer or winter.
Very nice. Fantastic home with easy access to skiing.
Incredible Christmas experience!
We spent Christmas 2018 at the Cowlitz River Home! The house and property are amazing! The view will blow you away! To make things even better we had the pleasure of watching a local herd of Elk (about 12-15) walk right through the property and swim across the river to feed, oh did I mention the dozen's of Bald Eagles and Red Tail Hawks! The kitchen is very well stocked with just about everything and anything you might need! The only downside to the place is the sleeping accommodations. It doesn't really sleep 8 adults, I would say 6 comfortably and then the futon's are definitely for young kids, fortunately we brought an inflatable mattress that really helped! The care taker, Jim, is very sweet and full of knowledge and expertise about the area! I would highly recommend this beautiful home and we would definitely come back, just with more inflatable beds! P.S. We even were allowed to bring our 4 legged family member - Lilly the Great Dane - she was in heaven!
Thanks Leslie & Cliff
This is a great home! We traveled with three families and had plenty of room for everyone. The owners did a wonderful job designing and building this home and it's a treat to be able to share it. It's in a great location right on the Cowlitz river. I would suggest inner-tubing down the river to the house or into town from the home and/or bringing a life jacket to explore the river and it's various channels. The hot tub is perfectly located with shade in the afternoon and a great view of the river and Mt. Rainier. The whole home was well air conditioned and we were very comfortable inside with 100 degree weather outside. The kitchen was well stocked and there's a great pantry for food storage. There is a great covered outdoor area that leads to a mud room for your hiking and ski gear and is perfect place for grilling in good and bad weather (shade for hot weather, cover for rain). Nice HUGE windows look out at the river and mountain views (including a great look at Mt. Rainier). Bedrooms were very spacious and comfortable. This is custom home living done right. Bedrooms are secluded enough to allow for night owls to stay up and others to sleep. The only negative I would voice is that there is no single dining table to accommodate everyone, but it was fun to have a kids table and adult table. The home is close enough to town that you can quickly stop by the grocery store for provisions (3 minute drive), but tucked away in the trees so that you feel like you are well away from civilization. If you have a larger group, this is the Packwood home for you.
This is our second year! My whole family was able to join us for another wonderful stay. Onsite grounds keeper super polite and informative! Made sure we had everything we needed to make our stay perfect! Great location for Mt Rainier hike! Love this place would highly recommend for the whole family!
A Little Piece of Heaven on Earth!!
We were a group of 7 friends who have vacationed together for years. We came to the Cowlitz River home and were immediately blown away by the beauty!! The pictures simply do not do it justice!! The home was wonderful, accomodating, and very comfortable-- a very relaxing place to regroup and kick back after a day of hiking the trails inside Mt. Rainer National Park. We felt like we were in the middle of nowhere, and yet the little town of Packwood was just a five minute drive to pick up any necessities for the week. We also really enjoyed eating at the Blue Spruce Saloon as well as the pizza place (can't remember the name) that happened to serve not only great pizza, but amazing breakfasts as well! The view from the back porch of the home (with the river and Mt. Rainer in the background) was to die for!! Our favorite time of each day was in the evening when we would all sit out by the campfire, listen to the river, and watch the sun set over the mountain. We also loved the mornings-- sitting outside, drinking coffee, watching the wildlife. There were many beautiful butterflies and birds all over the place , as well as a constant faint smell of evergreen from all of the trees. We even saw a bald eagle fly overhead!! It truly was a relaxing and magnificently memorable vacation!! We'll definitely be back!!
