Overview

About the property

sleeps max 2

We are in an excellent 'base place' location to explore all the summer 'up north' activities northwestern Michigan has to offer.

This retreat cabin is the perfect place to rest and relax. See and do as much or as little as you like. There are many activities and special events throughout the summer, or just kick back on one of the beaches nearby or hang out on the hammock with a book.

Steps away from one of the most beautiful lakes in the world, both cabins are embraced by a wide mix of mature older trees, and gardens. There are wildflowers, extensive perennial gardens, and an organic vegetable garden also on site that attract many songbirds and hummingbirds filling your senses with the sights and sounds of nature.

The cabin is a fully equipped efficiency unit with all of the comforts of home; furnished 'rustic woodsy, natural, eclectic home style'.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"Thank You! We had such a special and wonderful vacation at your cabin! We love it here!

We packed in so many activities during our stay; hiking, swimming in gorgeous Torch Lake, shopping local markets, tubing down the Platt River, too much to mention it all. We will long remember this special place and look forward to when we can return."

Cute Place with great Torch Lake access

  • 4 of 5

Overall my husband and I really enjoyed ourselves just be prepared for a tiny house experience. The A/C worked good especially when it became humid. Wish the flat screen was a little bigger and the double bed takes some getting use to.The deck was great and we used the BBQ and enjoyed sitting out after swimming and biking and just relaxing. The Torch Lake access was awesome....we preferred the larger grassy area for swimming and sitting and enjoying the beautiful lake. Wish we would have brought our canoe or kayaks. Barbara was very accommodating and was there if you needed her...but we felt that our place was very private. We drove to Bellaire and ate at Shorts even though we're not beer drinkers...awesome pizza and salad. We really liked Elk Rapids for shops and eats. Pearls and Siren Hall. Would highly recommend for a cozy couple experience❤️

Expected More

  • 3 of 5

Based on the reviews I read prior to reserving the cabin I expected more. Let me explain. Barbara was a great hosts. Very friendly and helpful. The cabin had everyone one could possibly use. The bed is comfortable and the wifi works great. The issue we had deal with was the lack of a sink in the very small bathroom. We have stayed in many cabins all over the country and never did we have to deal with no sink in the bathroom. I should have been a little suspicious when the reviews were somewhat dated.

In addition, if you don't have GPS one would never locate the cabins. There is no sign on the road leading to the cabins and the mailbox across the road is hard to identify. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend the cabins(s) with the understanding that the bathroom is small and lacks a sink.

The Perfect Place

  • 5 of 5

I cannot say enough wonderful things about our stay so I'll keep it short and sweet. The location was beautiful, the cabin in great condition stocked with any amenity you could need, and Barbara was incredibly kind and helpful. Motorcycle friendly to boot! I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Thank you so much Barbara for allowing us this opportunity to stay at this place of perfection.

Perfect Relaxing and Peaceful Cabin!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed in one of Barbara's cabins for 2 weeks, the Hidden Oak Cabin. It was absolutely perfect! It had to be one of the most relaxing and enjoyable 2 weeks of my life. The cabin is in excellent condition, tucked away from any commotion, and has everything you need. I especially enjoyed the beautiful deck and grill where I made most of my meals. The fire pit was wonderful and is secluded, nestled under a canopy of hardwoods. I made short daily walks to the beach, and really enjoyed all of the hiking trails within close proximity to the cabins. It is so peaceful, it was extremely hard to get stressed out in this type of environment. The owner is one of the nicest people you will ever meet and is very accommodating, will do whatever it takes to make your stay as wonderful as possible. I can't wait to come back later this Summer, THANK YOU Barbara!

Excellent cabin with a fantastic location

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed here for three nights and it was absolutely perfect. The location in the woods was very peaceful, while still being close to the lake and within biking/driving distance of small towns (the Thursday Farmer's Market in Alden was especially fun!). We rented a boat for an afternoon to take in the beauty of Torch Lake (recommended!), and also enjoyed relaxing down time around the cabin, on the deck and in the hammock (also recommended!). The owner, Barbara, was also very helpful in giving guidance on where to go and what to do in the area. We had an altogether excellent stay!
