About Marge Wallace

John and Doris Landis started here after buying the family farm from John's father in the 70's. With the help of their son, John Jr. and several employees they have continued to maintain and grow their farm. In 1983 they began their mulch landscaping business that is now known as Landyshade Mulch. Their mulch business grew quickly and is known all over Lancaster County now.

Marge Wallace purchased this farmhouse in 1975

Why Marge Wallace chose Pennsylvania Dutch Country

John and Doris have raised their family in this house and have recently moved off the farm. With the recent remodeling of their home they have opened it up to you. Our home is located with easy access to the Lancaster County Amish attractions.

While here you can have a scheduled tour of our farm. GOD'S country

  • 5 of 5

You want to go to a great house with great people and just get away. THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU! The house is a large farm home with large rooms and clean, man, you could have eaten off the floor. Marge the lady at the front office was absolutely the best. Would find locations and made sure that all was good with our stay. She was extremely helpful and very knowledgeable about the farm and area. We met Glenn he was a worker at the barn and explained a lot of the ins and out of the barn and cows. Took time out of his time, because it was the end of the day but he stuck around. The young man that at the farm I am guessing the grandson was a very polite young man that works hard and was as nice as any the other people we met. They have a great Dog on property that loves people that stay there. But it's not the needy type of love but if you want he will give you as much as you want. U would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this location

Loved It!

  • 5 of 5

There were 12 of us and we had lots of room. The kids had a ball. My grandson loved the activity of the tractors and trucks. Marge went above and beyond to help us find an Amish family to have dinner with. Any questions were always answered quickly. John Landis gave us a great tour of the farm. They have an amazing operation there!

We have rented many times before but found this to be so great because the linens and towels were all included. And we certainly had plenty of towels! There were also some of the staples that you usually have to run out and buy.

We also found it to be very convenient to so many of the Lancaster attractions. We particularly loved the Amish Village, Sight and Sound theater, Hershey Park, Strasburg Railroad and on the way home the Crayola Experience in Easton.

We really loved staying at this house and had a great time! We had a little trouble with the water.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here with four families, with a total of eight adults and seven kids under five. The house was perfect for us. Kids had a great time running around and playing outside, we loved the screened in gazebo and the grill, and Marge was super helpful and nice. My only complaint is that something happened with the water halfway through and the shower downstairs stopped working, which was a little challenging with so many people, but I don't think that was a normal occurrence.

Great Place for a Group Reunion

  • 5 of 5

In 2015 we started annual reunion trips with the families of my husband's college "buds" and 2016 landed us at Landyshade. The house was perfect for our group of 8 adults and 3 children. Plenty of bedrooms, bathrooms, eating space, etc. Upon arrival we were greeted by Marge and really enjoyed her popping in to check on us. She gave us the scoop on local attractions as well as where to get our groceries for our meals in. Eating meals in was easy because the kitchen was well equipped and there was an outdoor grill. The outdoor space was wonderful to play the games that we brought and eating outside in the gazebo was great. The kids enjoyed the swing set right in the yard. There was even a resident dog - Hank - who our entire group took a shine to.

Most of us "city slickers" hadn't ever stayed on a working farm before so were enthralled by the all the cows and cowlets. My husband almost started a stampede when he moo'd at the cows down the hill. Farm owner Mr. Landis even gave our group a tour of the dairy farm one morning. This is a working dairy farm so there will be a bit of cow smell - but it does not come into the house and after a bit we didn't notice it too much.

The farm is not far from many Lancaster area attractions so we experienced a variety -

a brew pub in Litiz, the Green Dragon Farmer's Market in Ephrata, pretzels and chocolate in Litiz, perhaps too much ice cream at the Turkey Hill Experience in Columbia. And of course we had an Amish family-style lunch and played miniature golf in nearby Ronks.

The farm house and surrounding area are beautiful and we may end up at Landyshade again one of these days since there is still lots to do and see.

Excellent place for a getaway with a large group

  • 5 of 5

This house was so spacious, with two separate living areas and the nicest owner. It was able to comfortably fit my group of 7 with plenty of room to spare. The best part of all is having the linens and towels provided—it saves tons of aggravation and packing space! My only regret is that it was a little too cold to explore the farm. I'd go back again in a heartbeat.
