Immersed in a small village in the Tuscan countryside only 7 km from Lucca.
Le Macine is a rare find. Located in the breathtaking landscape, on the rolling hills of the well-known Compitese, Le Macine has been completely restored in spring-summer 2007 in an authentic layout, according to the building, which was a small oilmill, one of the typical red Tuscan brick building that made this area famous all over the world for it's extra virgin olive oil.
Le Macine has a lush large garden, with wood oven, as patio to have dining outside and a stone path on the bank of the small river that made this oilmill working for more than 100 years.
The small stream that runs nearby makes the atmosphere even more magical and sweet for a romantic dinner.
The interiors are complete according to the traditional tuscan style, with a fine kitchen made of stones, orned with wooden antiques as the living room is furnished with very old sofas, chairs, tables and clocks.
At the first floor, there are 3 bright and cozy bedrooms, with large and high windows orned by tuscan red bricks and furnished with the Letti della Nonna or grandma's bed and wardrobe. Two elegant bathrooms are readily available for your use.

A true Italian experience!!! Our hosts were most gracious and helpful. Such a nice family and wonderful accommodations. Noni taught me how to make espresso! My wife and I stayed 7/8 nights and loved the central location access to tourist spots and the return at the end of a travel day to the serenity and beauty that this property offers. We wanted for nothing. Rural charm complimented by a wonderful Italian family host.. We miss Le Macine and the family.
We have just arrived home from spending 6 nights in Le Macine - what a great place! The house felt very comfortable with beautiful furniture and many of the original features preserved. It is well-maintained and spotlessly clean and contains everything needed while on holidays. We loved the patio and garden in particular. It's a great base to work from with Lucca, Pisa and Florence all within commutable distance by car. Thank you Cristina and family for making us feel so welcome.
My husband, grandson, and I spent 6 wonderful nights at Le Macine. We enjoy self-catering and always try to stay in an area that offers a look at how the local people live. The house is just as depicted with everything needed for the perfect stay in Tuscany. The house is spacious and is a great place for families traveling with children or teenagers. We especially enjoyed the gardens full of flowering plants and patio where we had breakfast, dinner and a glass of wine each day. Lucca is just a few minutes drive and convenient to Florence, Pisa and other major sites. Our grandson even got to through a line in the brook behind the house. We enjoyed driving around the back rounds close to the house and seeing the Tuscany not usually experienced from the autostrada. Cristina and her father were gracious hosts, even providing a welcome pack of goodies when we arrived. Thank you for your hospitality.
When we arrived Cristina was there to greet us very nice. Lovely decor and very roomy just as pictured.A beautiful private garden which we used a lot.The location is great for touring the hill towns, the views are amazing.Florence is about an hour away,Sienna near two .We went there after a local gent on a bike said it was nicer than Florence ,and we agree.Best of all the walled city of Lucca is 15 minutes away from the house and it's awesome.
We had a wonderful time staying in Cristina's house, thankyou Cristina.
Although it's been months since our stay, we still talk about our fantastic time at Le Macine. Christina and her family her incredibly generous. With two small children (4 and less than two at the time of our stay), we were so grateful for the layout of the house and the spacious yard. We have such fond memories of our mornings at Le Macine with coffee and breakfast in the dining room as the kids easily entertained themselves on the patio. Christina was so kind to bring over a play kitchen and table for the kids in addition to the toys the house already stocked. My mom joined us for a portion of the stay and it was perfect. We fell in love with Lucca and the surrounding towns. The pizzeria up the way was one of our favorite places and only wish we could have gone there more. Gatino Blanco in the next town was fantastic as well as the gelato at Pappa Grapa, I think everyone crossed there fingers that it would be open when we went by. There's also a great roadside coffee shop/cafeteria in the town just north of a Massa M. which we discovered too late. The coffee and pastries are delicious and definitely get the blood orange juice fresh squeezed, it's beyond!! The kids adored going to view the stream each day and looking out the windows on the top floor. We hope to return at some point as Massa Maciana was idyllic and Lucca was beyond measure ideal for our family. Our son learned to ride a bike there and the wall bike path is perfect for families. We seek out areas of countries which have very little traffic from Americans and Lucca is just that. Much more tranquil than most places in Italy. With such close proximity to Florence, the wine regions and the coast, this might be the perfect getaway in the Lucca region. We truly revel in our time there and loved our hosts - thank you!!
After many searches on vrbo we came across this listing. Our second time traveling to Italy and a first for our parents celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Christina was so easy to work with and showed up as soon as we arrived to greet us. There was bread, jelly and meats on the table for us when we got there. The farmhouse was wonderful! There were 5 of us and we ate dinner there and had local Tuscan wine each night. The church, pizza shop, butcher and hair salon is all within walking distance even though this farmhouse is in the "country." I highly recommend this place and this family. Make sure you stay for a few days to fully enjoy where you are. They will make you feel like you are coming home..we can't wait to go back! I highly recommend the little white cat restaurant down the street. Fresh truffle linguine and you pick your fish! As world travelers, this is in the top three places we have been. Thanks for mailing my forgotten book Christina! I needed it for my test back home, you are the greatest!
