This property has been in the making for 30 years. We built Shadows Den for our family retreat.
We spared no expense when building.
Shadows Den is built for a 50 foot snow load. The 10 acres it sits on is all about the animals. They were there first, we are only visitors, but here to enjoy
We have decks around the whole house. We built a pond for the moose to come in and drink. It is so great to see a moose and calf ten feet from you
Great propert, wonderful mountain themes, sauna, jacuzzi, pool table, amazing upstairs and downstairs living rooms, unforgettable master bath shower, spacious garage, great room chef's kitchen. Can't wait to return....BUT, a few minor issues... 1) kitchen utensils do not match quality of home and many are flimsy, but there is a good selection. 2) no spices at all available, no salt, a little pepper. We left some salt for next guests ;-) 3) the gorgeous bathrooms have no towel racks or hooks. Bummer for such a beautiful time place to have towels strewn about. 4). Although it is a great ski place for Jackson Hole or Grand Targhee, there are only 4 hanging hooks to dry your gear in the home (these are in the beautiful large laundry room). There is loads of storage and closet hanging space with lots of good quality hangers, but for a ski place, hanging hooks just off the entry ( in the laundry) would be a huge improvement for functionality. 5) TV system was complex, even to get a DVD played. Amy, property manager, offered to drive up to property to set up the AV system, but we had so much to enjoy at this home without TV that we declined. Amy was very responsive by phone. 6) no shampoo provided, but soaps provided. Very comfortable stay!!!!
In summary, this is a memorable destination, other reviews are accurate, I highly recommend this rental, but you may want to bring your own utensils (knives at property are good) and spices. Victor, Driggs, and Jackson kept us busy and entertained. Also, snowmobiling with Teton Valley Adventures is fun, scenic and interesting. We had great snow conditions on slopes and in forests during our stay.
We traveled with a group of 7, there was plenty of space. Hot tub, sauna, and pool table in the bar area were such a pleasure to have. Bedrooms were large and having 4 bathrooms gave us plenty of time to get ready for skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling. Victor and Driggs is a great area, right in the middle of all the winter activities we loved. The property had plenty of space to play in the snow, making snowmen, and snow angels. Amy, the property manager, was always quick to respond to all my questions. We really hope to book this property again. Loved every minute of our vacation!
Our family loves Shadows Den! It is a wonderful place to get away with family and friends, relaxing by the fire in the grand living room, watching the snow come down, and looking out over the picturesque Teton Valley! The amenities are good, basically everything you will need for a vacation stay, and the main areas of the house except for the bedrooms are hard surface flooring keeping it easy to clean. The master bathroom will satisfy both the man and the woman with the large jetted tub, and the dual-fixture walk in shower. We have only rented the place during the winter months and love that time of the year in Victor/Driggs area. This cabin is located in the hills, and has a fairly steep driveway so I recommend that you travel with four wheel drive or equivalent in the winter months. The neat thing for me with regard to Shadows Den, is that the subdivision it's located within has larger lots and the buildings are well spaced so that you feel like you are the only house for miles and king of the mountain! We definately will rent again and recommend this place. The owner is great!
We had a fabulous family vacation at this house. There is plenty of room for both indoor and outdoor activities, every amenity you could want and beauty all around. It is isolated from other homes which we loved. About fifteen minutes into grocery store or towns of Victor or Driggs. Wonderful!
We loved our stay at Shadow's Den. The home is beautiful and very functional. A lovely master suite on the main floor with queen bed, another nice bedroom with double bed and connected bath on main floor, downstairs large second suite with king bed, and a third floor loft with twin beds accommodated 7 adults (2 parents, 1 grandparent and 4 adult children ages 20-27) with our 20 year old son choosing to sleep on a very comfy couch downstairs so he could have his own space.
The house was clean, comfortable and surrounded by beautiful quaking aspens. A lovely, soft breeze blew much of the time ruffling the leaves (Aspens are my new, favorite tree!) Enjoyed hearing the birds singing outside our room each morning. Lovely wrap around porches with plenty of options for enjoying the view and the gorgeous surroundings.
The kitchen is quite nice with plenty of pots, pans, etc. We grilled steaks outside on a deluxe gas barbecue and enjoyed a built in indoor grill for bacon and pancakes. We did encourage the property manager to add some bowls to their available dishes and to fix the freezer which was difficult to open and close.
We enjoyed day trips into Grand Teton National Park, Yellowstone and Jackson Hole. Went horseback riding (including my 87 year old mom!) at Teton Mountain Ranch right there in Victor and had a wonderful, memorable ride. The guys went fly fishing in Ashton and enjoyed it except for the mosquitos. Wear long sleeves and put on lots of mosquito repellent!
Enjoyed the tiny towns of Driggs and Victor. Discovered a little museum in Driggs about the area and would highly recommend stopping by. The museum is simple, but effectively done for a quick overview of the area. Ate at a couple of delicious restaurants in Driggs and Victor (Forage and Sherwoods Post) and had the "can't be missed" huckleberry shakes at the Emporium in Victor. And we fell in love with the stunning, open countryside of both Idaho and Wyoming. The National parks are remarkably picturesque. We hiked, saw bison, elk, deer and other wildlife, experienced Old Faithful in full display and enjoyed visiting Yellowstone Inn and Jackson Lake Lodge.
A fabulous family vacation and returning each evening to Shadows Den was a real treat and a relaxing retreat. We even spent a couple of days just chilling at the house doing a puzzle, playing games, reading or hiking up the road. We woukd love to return someday and continue to explore this amazing part of America.
My husband and I rented the Shadows Den twice this month! First time we took our son for a ski wknd at Targhee, next time was for our 16th anniversary! We had a great time both weekends! Cabin is cozy and has a lot to offer. The hot tub and sauna were just what we needed after skiing! The only complaint about this rental is the tv/stereo system is complicated and we could only get part of it to work. Other than that we would recommend this to anyone wanting a wonderful hideaway off the beaten path! Property Manager Amy was fantastic!
