Captain Mike's fun park is minutes from the cottage. Four great wineries are within 10 miles (Little Sonoma Valley). Fan-tas-tic biking on little-traveled country roads. Great restaurants, antique shops, outlet mall, casinos and Heston Steam Museum.. the list goes on.
Area:: Sawyer is between New Buffalo and St. Joe and close to other great towns, but only 90 minutes from Chicago. Close to Saugatauk and Holland. You can make an easy day trip to Notre Dame for football and back. Lots of options.
We live in Florida but have family in Chicago and wanted a place where we could all meet and just relax for a few days over spring break... a friend told us about this cottage and we LOVED it... so warm and inviting.. with wonderful areas for all of us to be together... We particularly liked the screened back porch where we all met every morning for breakfast and coffee.. the beach is so close and we loved walking there to see the lake.... it was still chilly but warm enough to catch a few rays and then, we went home and had a bonfire IN OUR OWN BACKYARD.. loved that... this is a charming, updated home that folks have put alot of care into and made our stay fantastic... We loved the large yard which was perfect for games of catch and campfires with s'mores. We found the kitchen well stocked and plenty of room to cook large family dinners. The extra fridge in the garage really helped with the adult beverages.
The screened in porch was great for eating and for sitting and reading the papering in the early morning when the deer came to visit outside the yard. This is very wood area and so nice and quiet. Flashlights at night are helpful for navigating to the beach or outside.
I was concerned when we arrived and the a/c was not on. I did not need to worry because when it did get hot the window units did a great job. My only suggestion was to have a little step stool in the main bedroom to turn on the a/c since it is over the wardrobe.
Next year I will not lug dish soap, paper towels and TP since the house was so well supplied. Move in ready just bring your food.
If I must give a negative it was that the kitchen needed a sharper paring knife or a sharper. If this is my only negative I would say it was a great vacation home.
Loved the cottage ! Clean , comfortable, great indoor and outdoor areas. Close to beach and great bike rides. Roadhouse really good place to eat and the Sawyer Market has great fresh produce, garden and gifts.
We wanted a quick getaway for my girlfriends 50th birthday, Maggie's house was just perfect! Four couples, beautiful fall weather, fire pit outside, awesome master bedroom ...the list goes on and on! It's a quick trip from Chicago, and less than a 10 minute walk to the beach, even in November!! Sure to be a place I will continue to enjoy over and over again! Thanks MAGGIE!!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful home that was walking distance to the Warren Dunes. Plenty of room and very clean. Nice big screened-in porch area for everybody to sit in. I would definitely recommend it to my family and friends.
What a wonderful stay we had in this lovely home within walking distance of the Lake Michigan dunes & beaches. We relaxed in the comforts this property afforded us, and the location allowed for an easy drive from the Chicago area. We enjoyed walking the beaches, building bonfires, and sitting on the porches while watching the seasons begin to change. Every detail in this home has been attended to with great care. Linden House is situated next the Warren Dunes State Park. We are centrally located between New Buffalo and St. Joseph. Just a short drive to several beaches, casinos, outlet mall shopping and wineries. This is cycling country! Little-traveled roads provide a great cycling day from 10-100 miles. In winter cross-country skiing right outside the door into the state park... hiking... swimming... fun in the sun! Art festivals, concerts in the park and at the beach!
