Another amazing family weekend in Big Bear
We love big bear cool cabins and this is our second stay at unforgettable views. Cool Cabin always makes our book experience so easy and enjoyable. Unforgettable views is cozy and truly lives up to its name with the most amazing forest and lake views. Book your trip you wont regret it!
Dear Christie M. Thank you for giving us a great rating and for recommending Cool Cabins to other travelers. I’m sure our entire staff enjoyed catering to your needs as much as you enjoyed your stay. We look forward to having you back!
Unforgettable for the wrong reasons
Before I go into being negative, I'll say the location was good. Close to the bear mountain. Walking distance if you have work out shoes on and no baggage but if your in your snowboard gear and carrying your board you should def drive since it's an uphill walk and you won't be happy after a day of boarding in your bulky gear coming back home. Also, the view was pretty. Not astounding like mentioned but it's pretty to watch the sunrise, which, if you think you won't be awake for, think again since there's no blinds on most bedroom windows so you'll be awake when the sun comes out and is beaming on your face. And the blinds that the home does have, most are broken and do not work. Their is cobwebs pretty much in every ceiling corner. It's gross for guests sleeping on the top bunk since you'll practically be touching them. That's nice that it mentions there's 4 tvs but they should add that some do NOT work. Our "master" bedroom with the single large bed and bath did not have a functioning tv or a functioning shower. All 12 had to share the two other bathrooms. The home needs some MAJOR upgrades. That's fine if it's just your vacation home but when you are renting it out to paying guests it is literally disturbing that you don't put the money towards making the home even slightly presentable. I'm not sure why they say they clean because while maybe there wasn't dirt piles on the beds, it was far from clean. All dressars and appliances were extremely dusty and like I said, numerous monster cobwebs. They claim to have wifi and give directions on how to set it up in the manual but we later were told there's no wifi. As far as the booking process, yes cool cabins was fairly simple, no complaints there besides the adding packages. I purchased the fire package with the 10 bundles and one bundle already ready to rock upon arrival. There was bundles of wood but there was nothing in the fireplace besides used ashes so that was a fib. As well as ordering the birthday package, the decor was for a toddler and the balloons were deflated upon arrival. My husband literally thought someone didn't clean up their birthday party supplies from weeks ago and I had to embarrassingly tell him that it was for him. There was 12 of us and we have as a group stayed in big bear 14 times and this was def our worse experience. I was pretty embarrassed in all to be hosting his birthday weekend there and making them sleep in dirty rooms. We ended up dining out and spending most time away.
A good deal if you just need the basics.
Overall, my group had an alright stay at this cabin. The heater worked, there was running water, and there were beds to sleep on -- what more can you ask for as a group of college students (except for wifi I guess)? If you're a family on vacation expecting a higher quality, more modern cabin, this might not be the place for you as this cabin is very evidently old.
Good points of renting this cabin:
There is definitely a lot of bed space. There are 2 king beds, and each twin-double bunk bed actually has another mattress underneath that can be pulled out.
The view is very nice. It captures the mountains, the forest, and the lake very well.
The kitchen is very well stocked with utensils and dishes.
The cabin is very close to Bear Mountain Ski Resort. It's probably a 5-10 minute walk if you weren't wearing or carrying snow gear.
Bad points of renting this cabin:
There is no wifi. There's a modem in the kitchen but no router. Instructions left by the owners of the cabin say the wifi password is on the modem, but it wasn't there.
The floors/ceilings are very squeaky. Good luck going to sleep if there are people on the floor above you still walking around.
The shower heads are very low. I'm 5'6" and I had to squat to wash my hair in the shower.
The only way to get to the cabin is up a very steep and narrow road. This wasn't a problem for my group because we went when the roads weren't icy, but I can imagine how hard it would be to get to this cabin if it were.
