About the property

2 bedroom 2 bathroom loft

Our private cabin is located in the spruce and aspen forests of the Sangre De Christos mountains of northern New Mexico at 9200 feet of elevation. It has two bathrooms, two bedrooms with two new comfortable queen size beds, and a loft with a total of two double beds and one single bed. Our cabin can sleep up to 9 people very comfortably. Outside entertainment includes large deck, large propane grill, patio furniture. Inside the cabin includes a Dish satellite, 47 inch LCD TV, DVD/stereo player, Wfi and numerous parlor games. The kitchen has a microwave, gas stove and oven, refrigerator and a full set of cooking and eating utensils. The only dishwasher is the pair of hands you bring with you. The dining room table can comfortably seat up to nine or more. It has central heat augmented by a high efficiency wood burning stove. The cabin is accessible in all seasons with lots of trees to hike and explore through. A perfect place for kids, young and old to play.

In the winter season, the Angel Fire Ski Resort is two miles below the cabin which is fun for family and beginning skiers. Red River is 30 miles north of Angel Fire with numerous beginner and intermediate ski runs. Taos Ski Valley is 60 miles from Angel with a worldwide reputation for challenging deep snow, high ski runs with many intermediate and expert runs.

A quick drive down the road and you're at the boat dock of scenic Monte Verde Lake where you can enjoy fishing, canoeing, paddle boating, and hiking around the lake.

Angel Fire is an outdoor lover’s paradise. Summers are delightfully cool and refreshing. There is an easy hiking trail through the woods just outside your door or for the more adventuresome hiker, there’s Wheeler Peak, at over 13,000 feet. Fall is a special time of year. The colors are beautiful! The aspens on our place and on the mountains appear to be like gold coins in the wind. The nights are cool and just right for the woodstove. In the winter, skiing is fantastic, and snowboarders love the new terrain park. The Angel Fire Ski Resort is family oriented and world renowned for their Children’s Ski and Snowboard Center. The Chili Express high speed quad chairlift carries skiers to the top of the mountain in eight minutes. Snowmaking covers 60% of the mountain, so good ski conditions are almost guaranteed!

Located one mile from the main highway and another mile to the ski lift you have easy access to all activities. The $16M Country Club is a half mile away with exquisite gourmet food. Complete gym and spa services are also available as well as an indoor pool. Other eateries include Zeb's for hamburgers and sandwiches, The Roasted Clove for intimate dining, across from the Chili Express is the Sunset Grill. We love eating at Hatches Grill the best Mexican food.

The cabin is a Great place, hope you can come soon.

About Holly

Hello this is Mike and Holly Schreur we live by Amarillo Texas. This has always been a dream of ours to have a cabin in the mountains.

Holly purchased this cabin in 2010

Why Holly chose New Mexico

The driving distance is only 4 1/2 hours from home, and it's just like a piece of heaven being at the cabin up in the mountains.

What makes this cabin unique

We have enjoyed the time on the large deck watching the hummingbirds and just being nestled in the mountains. The cabin is very private with lots of wildlife around.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This was our 1st trip to N.M and our 1st trip to cold climate. We are usually a beach family, but your cabin felt like a home away from home. the children adored the upstairs loft. They erupted a shout of excitement when the boys discovered call of duty(even though they didn't play it) In between our first experience snowmobiling, skiing and snowboarding, we relaxed on the deck, hiked through the snow and stared in awe at the stars. Twice we were visted by a family of 5 elk. The children built snowman, and we had many meals at the table. This was a nice change for us to engage in long conversations uninterrupted by phone calls and emails. It was a rare chance to hear "come on mom", it's your turn. It was a rare chance to watch the children delight in new adventures. It is with heavy hearts that we return to the hustle and bustle of our every day lives. Your cabin gave us an incredible gift, many memories, lots of laughter and a reminder of just how important family is. We will always remember and talk about the blue cabin in the woods. P.S There is an awesome sled trail right next to the porch

Wonderful Cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We visited Angel Fire during Spring Break with our kids and dogs, and both had an amazing time. The cabin was everything we had hoped for and more. The kids especially loved feeding the deer! The dogs were able to run around as there is a lot of open area. The owner's were very informative and easy to reach if needed. Thank you for allowing us to visit your wonderful cabin!

Cozy cabin the woods!

  • 5 of 5

We decided on a last minute trip to Angel Fire to hike in the snow with our dog! This was our first time using VRBO and Holly could not have been more pleasant or accommodating. She is so quick to answer any and all questions. Their cabin has everything you need to feel at home. Minus a dishwasher, but everything else was so great hand washing was worth it! The beds are so comfortable, especially the electronic warming pads. We really enjoyed sitting on the deck and be greeted by 8-14 deer every time we drove up the driveway or shook our can of deer food. Good thing we brought the 50lb. bag:). Birdseed and peanuts are also appreciated by the birds. Our stay was so peaceful and a wonderful change of pace from Dallas. The cabin is very close to the ski lifts if that's what you are coming for. We can't wait to book our next trip back to the cabin!

Everything and More!

  • 5 of 5

The goal of our trip was to experience a very relaxing staycation, and we definitely achieved just that. The cabin was perfect for what we had in mind. The property was secluded enough that there was no noise or distractions; we saw a variety of wildlife including humming birds, blue jays, chipmunks, deer and turkeys; we had plenty of space to do whatever we wanted. The cabin was clean and cozy, and provided everything we needed for our stay. It was chilly enough a couple of nights that we got to take advantage of the amazingly beautiful fireplace, which is surprisingly easy to operate. The owners went above and beyond when we booked our stay as well! I highly recommend this property, and will definitely book again for our next staycation if the cabin is available. Thanks again for sharing your piece of paradise with us, we appreciate it very much!

Classic Mountain Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We have 3 children ranging from 11-16, so you know how pleasing that age range is a challenge. In an age of digital dependence this cabin delivers. While the cabin is equipped with digital TV and wifi, the wildlife takes center stag. We were immediately greeted with hummingbirds and chipmunks, and a nightly deer visit was followed. Soon the mountain took center stage and the digital addiction was broken. With abundant wildlife and a peaceful setting your stress level will decrease immediately, I would guess a few years were added to my life from stress reduction alone. The cabin layout is superb for a family get away. The loft allows separation and privacy for the kids and the bedrooms privacy for the adults. The spacious deck puts you in the mountain wilderness and surrounds you with wildlife. Holly's directions and information are spot on and allow you to hit the ground running. Great place in a superb location.

Great simple cabin for our family of six.

  • 4 of 5

Our family of six (which includes four children with ages ranging from nine to three) enjoyed a long summer weekend at the cabin. One star is removed because it needs a few updates but it had a good layout for our family. The owner was very nice, attentive, and did a great job stocking the cabin with supplies to do laundry, wash dishes, and prepare meals. The older two slept in the loft which has a great toy/book play space and its own bath/toilet room and separate sink space. The younger two shared a queen downstairs (so they didn't have to maneuver the spiral stairs at night if necessary). The two queen rooms downstairs share a bathroom (not attached). The cabin was clean and served our purpose very well. So well in fact that I would rent it again.
