Located 5 minutes from the small, historic town of Pahoa on the eastern side of the Big Island, you're just 25 minutes to Volcano National Park and Hilo International Airport. Discover the quieter side of Hawai'i. The Big Island has everything there is to see and do in Hawai'i, all on one island, and with no crowds.
Enjoy walking on an active volcano and watching the lava crash into the ocean. Explore the quaint town Pahoa, natural hot ponds to soak in, horseback riding, helicopter tours, botanical gardens, beautiful waterfalls, farmers markets, a macadamia nut factory, historic Hilo and it's waterfront shopping, coffee plantations . . . the list goes on.
We have family in and around Hilo, and this particular neighborhood is one of our favorites. Within a short drive of the house there are at least half dozen interesting sites and locations to visit. We also like the small town atmosphere the Pahoa offers, and still have the conveniences of Hilo not far away.
The house is nice, clean and well kept. It has 3 bedroom and 2 bathroom, very roomy for our family ( 3 adults and 2 kids).
It has everything you need, including a washer and a dryer. It is located in a peaceful and quite neighborhood.
The owner , Don is very accommodating, granted our request to stay within 24 hours of our request. He made sure that the house was ready when we arrived. He provided informations that were useful during our stay. You can also communicate with him fast and easily.
We enjoyed our stay and definitely would recommend this place.
Clean and nice and roomy. Beds ok. Back side bedrooms rather hot in the afternoon. Very close to ocean and Pahoa town. Beds and bed linens could use replacement. Lots of supplies available, so that was really nice. Overall a nice home-base for multiple age group to stay!
Don's house is great, good size and everything you need. It was handy to VNP, warm springs, Hilo and everything around there.
There was a problem with the garbage disposal which would back up when we ran the dishwasher but that wasn't a big deal and was going to be fixed. The only other issue was that Don had mistakenly double booked us and 2 families into the house for the same timeframe. We had arrived first so the other family had to stay somewhere else. I understand that Don found and paid for their other accommodations but this situation was really awkward.
Overall a great place to stay
We found the rental home to be clean and had everything needed for a great vacation(beach towels, beach chairs, coolers, etc). We really appreciated the extras provided (dish soap, laundry detergent, etc).
There were six of us that stayed in Pahoa for two days as we explored the volcano national park. It is about a 45 minute drive from the park. We had to make a last minute change on the days we were in Pahoa and Don was very accommodating in helping us out. It is a very nice house with all the amenities we needed. The wifi reception was great, and we really appreciated having the laundry facilities and extra towels. The home was clean, relaxing and comfortable. A neighbor stopped by while we were outside and volunteered his barbeque if we needed one. The house doesn't have air conditioning but cools down quickly with the windows open. The frogs are quite vocal and will serenade you in the evening.
We chose this house in Pahoa for the location and price. Although there were just two of us, the 3-bdrm/2 bath house would be comfortable for 6. The great room(living room, dining area, seating at kitchen island/kitchen is large and there is a washer/dryer on the carport. The kitchen is well appointed for cooking, WIFI works well, good breeze with open windows and floor/tabletop fans for each bedroom. Unfortunately, we experienced a power outage(due to high winds/downed trees) two of our three days there so we didn't get to take full advantage of anything electrical. We were thrifty with the hot water and still had warm showers and recharged phones/kindle/camera in car. The next door neighbor was kind to offer to charge electronics(he had a generator) and use of his outdoor grill. Since we were out most of each day, the power outage was a minimal impact. Contacted the owner just so he was aware for next renters as the outage was predicted to be days(maybe a week) and I know he was working to find alternate arrangements for them. We visited the Tropical Gardens, Lyman Museum, Hilo Farmer's Market, Volcanoes National Park. Since the power was out in Pahoa, some restaurants were closed but we ordered take-out pizza from The Black Rock Cafe which was good, ate great burgers and local beer at the Burger Joint in Hilo, also had a good meal at Pesto Cafe in Hilo. I would recommend this to others for a clean, roomy and affordable base to explore this region of the Big Island.
