They say location means everything, and this property has it. The house surpassed it's listed pictures. We spent a week here in July, for a sister's reunion. The weather was clear so we enjoyed fantastic views across the Bay and even the moonlight across the lake at night, as well as the sound of lapping water on the boulders below. The cabin had everything we needed for cooking, great upper deck furniture (where we ate every breakfast and most dinners), comfortable beds and a large Jacuzzi. It provided fantastic lake views from all three floors. There is a very pleasant sitting area just above the granite boulders at the waters edge with stairs and a path that leads to it. We brought kayaks, but were uncomfortable with them on the boulders, so launched at King's Beach (picnicked on Speedboat Beach and continued kayaking into Crystal Bay). Relaxing on floating rafts worked out just fine along the boulders. All we needed to buy were groceries and flowers for the deck table. The house is three stories, but on the main floor, has different levels, with a step up for a stair landing, step up for the front door landing and step up for the kitchen. While this was fine for us, it was a bit difficult four our 91 year old mother who spent part of the week with us. The only downside to this house was the construction going on during the days a few lots over. But then, we were gone most days - out hiking (Angora Lake), bike riding (Squaw to Tahoe City along the Truckee River), Shakespeare Festival at Sand Harbor, kayaking (rent at EcoKayak next to King's Beach) or golfing (Old Brockway Golf) - most of which were close on the north shore. We enjoyed the decks so much that we arranged for massages on the deck. The property was well maintained, the house was clean, although the light colored carpets on the main level could use a shampoo. The property management was very helpful.
Our stay for my birthday and Mothers Day was so horrid; it's hard to find where to begin. It was a -100. I have never experienced a filthier poorer kept house and bad management. First hazard was the carpet on the stairs to the upper level had come loose and was dangerous, tripped me first night, sent me lurching down the stairs and made the upper level inaccessible, and we needed to use it. It’s a simple fix but the owner refused to let them fix it and was not concern for our safety. It looked like it hasn’t been cleaned in months. There were mud or grease stains all over the carpet, spiders everywhere and webs all over the place. The kitchen was total chaos and nothing in the cabinets and drawer's were where it should have been and were filthy inside so all the dishes, pots, pans and utensils which were dirty and had to be washed before using, but the dishwasher didn't work and my husband had to repair it, since the management office was closed until Monday, and did not return our calls or emails until the 4th day of our stay. I was afraid we’d get sick using the kitchen. The island grill has been removed and the resulting hole covered over by gluing on a cutting board, which cannot be removed to wash. Next to it a broken disposal full to the rim with disgusting debris, and was a health hazard. They did replace it with a new one on the 6th day, but we had to oversee the repair. The heating system was not working properly, causing the alarm to go and no way to shut it off, and tried to repair on 5th day. The window lock in the main floor bedroom was broken, the window screen torn off and the window had been left partially open for months, there were thick webs & dust we had to clean ourselves first night before sleeping. Because of this could not open window for cooling, and it was uncomfortable. A new screen and lock on the 6th day. We asked them to clean it again but not on my birthday, but they sent the housekeepers, who were not happy to be sent back, on that day. When they arrived on my birthday, they would not let us reschedule and insisted on cleaning over my objection. A horrible experience; with vacuums running, using extension dusters to get the window and ceiling webs, dropping debris everywhere and no place for us to go. The house and deck were unusable on my birthday, I had planned to use the deck for nice brunch, and dinner and this ruined my birthday trip. I had to dust everything again myself due to the mess they made.
