The overwhelming physical beauty of Sapphire Beach: 20 feet from the water's edge; the music of the surf to relax you; the constant tradewinds to cool you; white sands at your doorstep; a palm tree to call your own. An island vista uninterrupted from Atlantic to Caribbean--the ultimate in relaxation.

Situated at the windward (Eastern) end of St. Thomas, Sapphire Beach Resort and Marina is just five minutes away from the nautical village of Red Hook, with the St. John and BVI ferry docks, the fabulous Moe's Market with its gourmet wines, meats and deli, the succulent lobster to be found at many village restaurants, all kinds of interesting little shops and the constant party at Duffy's Love Shack.

The peacefulness of your vacation will be in the personal hands of Kathleen Browne., the Hammock in Heaven's onsite manager. Kathleen will give you great comfort and security during your stay.

Featuring a huge wrap-around terrace and an uninterrupted view from Atlantic to Caribbean over St. John and the British Virgin Islands, your condominium is a premier unit at Sapphire Beach Resort and Marina, a gated community with 24-7 security. (Many guests who have visited and seen what Sapphire Beach has to offer have said this unit occupies Sapphire's best location.)

The condominium and balcony is an extra-large (1200 sq. ft.) fully air-conditioned studio that can be divided to create two sleeping areas by a sliding, louvered wood partition. The 'master' sleeping area presents a king-sized bed with a brand new Pillow-Top mattress providing exquisite sleeping comfort and, at the foot of the bed, a flat-screen HD, LCD cable TV.

The kitchen is sleek and modern, with a full-sized fridge, stove and microwave. The outside deck is a premier feature because it is so huge. It contains a dining area, a lounge area and, of course, the Heavenly Hammock pictured above.

THE SAPPHIRE BEACH MARINA (75 feet down the beach):

A wonderland of island water activities. Daysail to St. John, Caneel Bay and Trunk Bay. Cruise a catamaran to Jost Van Dyke in the BVI, home of Foxy's and the Soggy Dollar Bar. Speedboat to Virgin Gorda and The Baths. Dive PADI. Jetski. Fish the North and South Drops with the very best. Or just hang out and watch the resident school of 50-pound tarpon play in the Marina.

A one-mile, 'drop-dead' beach with every water toy imaginable. A two-tier freshwater pool. Banana Cabana, a bar and grille serving both the pool and at the main beach. Complimentary lounge chairs and snorkeling equipment. Snorkel with turtles, rays and a kaleidoscope of fishes right off the beach.

Why Robert chose Estate Smith Bay

Sapphire Beach is arguably the most beautiful beach venue in the Caribbean. On the breezy East End of St. Thomas, Sapphire Beach Resort and Marina lies at the center of the on-the-water and in-the-water activities for which St. Thomas, St. John and the British Virgin Islands are world-renowned. The very best of these activities start right in the Sapphire Beach Marina, 100' from my doorstep. Red Hook, a lazy nautical town, with shops, good restaurants, lively night life, not to mention being the ferry hub for service to St. John and the BVI, is but 3-4 minutes away.

What makes this condo unique

Guests who stay at my 'Hammock in Heaven' enjoy many unique amenities, including 1) the management services of of Kathleen Browne. free lounge chairs and snorkel equipment, free ensuite wifi, free hurricane insurance, and an informative and personal booklet prepared by me especially for you.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The following comments were sent to me as a letter from guests who loved their visit. So many people email me with questions about things to do and adventures to undertake, that I think it is a very good idea to share interesting letters, even when they do not say much about the Hammocks in Heaven, one way or the other. Donna F.'s is such a letter. Hope you find it useful. Peter Rosenbaum

"Dear Peter,

We had a wonderful stay at Sapphire. Sam was a pleasure to meet and gave us quite a round about tour of St. Thomas on our way from the airport since we were right in rush hour. I am sure you are happy to have him in at your service. We also met his wife and two of the children when they were cleaning up one of your units and we went over and looked at both of the Hammocks in Heaven units for reference for future stays.

We couldn't have been more pleased with the location and amenities at Sapphire. We did take the New Horizon trip and it was wonderful. We only had eight people! It was quite personal. We had great calm sunny weather all week. We ate once at the grill and it was adequate and we enjoyed the pool and the Sunday Reggae party at the pavilion.

I loved having the Grocery Goddesses shop for us and have the frig full when we arrived. We brought some nonperishable food with us and we didn't need to go to the market all week. We did stop in the Marine Market in Red Hook and look at all the gourmet foods available and bought some rum to bring home. We managed fine with taxis and never even ventured into the shopping and cruise ship area, which seems like another world compared to the east side of the island.

We spent one day on St. John and went to the Annanburg (sp) ruins and Waterlemon Cay. But we did receive this one tip from a local helping with a wedding at the ruins. If you are going to post this letter on your website, I can't tell you where this magic spot is, because if everyone knew, the coral would undoubtedly suffer damage from too much observation. The anwer is: Go to Watermelon Cay, find a local, ask.

With so many beaches left unexplored I am sure that we will want to return and would definitely hope to find a time to use one of your condominiums. My friend, Jo Anne, was quite impressed with everything and might be contacting you in the future about a stay with her husband next spring.

Thank you again for offering us such great service that made our trip perfect in every way. We hope your up

Absolutely Awesome Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Before I review "Hammock inn Heaven", I just want to say how wonderful it was to work with the owner, Peter, during the planning of the trip and during our stay. I cannot think of a more attentive and responsive host to colloborate with for a vacation. Peter gave us many suggestions in his Island Guide and also many other suggestions to my questions. So to Peter, we want to give a big thanks! The condo was a wonderful place to call home for 10 days. Peter provides everything that anyone could need to make for a great vacation. We took advantage of Peter's deals with the dive shop and snorkeled on a number of occasions and it was alot of fun. The beach at Sapphire is a wonderful place to either just relax or take in the many water activities that are offered. We found ourselves doing both nearly everyday, but the relaxation under the sea greape trees in the afternoon was a particular treat. The proximity of Sapphire Beach to Red Hook made day trips to St John a breeze. We went over several times and fell in love with Cinammon Bay. We went to several others such as Trunk Bay and Honeymoon Beach, but found Cinammon beautiful (but all of them really are!). Peter's suggestion of a cruise on the Daydreamer catamaran to Jost Van Dyke was also a great one. We had a blast on the all day cruise and were mesmerized by the waters of White Bay. Finally, what will be hard to describe in words, is the spectacular view from the balcony at the condo. We found ourselves every evening just relaxing overlooking Pillsbury Sound just amazed at the views and it was also alot of fun to watch all the boats sailing by. We are still telling our friends and family about what you get to just marvel at while sitting in a comfy chair or laying in the hammock while enjoying a nice drink and the cool tradewinds which are so refreshing after a day in the sun. So two big thumbs up first to Peter and if you decide to stay at the Hammock in Heaven, you will not go wrong. We have vacationed at many other places around the globe and traveled many places in our 20 years in the military and I can assure you this was one of the most relaxing places we have been. Thanks Peter!

Best location at Sapphire Beach.

  • 5 of 5

The condo had a gorgeous modern interior which lacked nothing. Being that it was a corner space we had an incredible wrap around balcony with a perfect view of ocean and nearby islands that was directly on the water. We cannot wait to return.

Heaven on earth!!

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed at many places on the island of St. Thomas. The Hammock in Heaven iwas the best value and most beautiful accommodation of al that I have experienced. Its location is directly on the ocean with an incredible view of Tortola and St. Johns. The best aspect is that it is a corner condo with a large wrap around balcony rather than an inside unit with a much smaller balcony space. You will not be disappointed as the very, very modern interior is as beautiful as the outside view.

What a terrific place! I confess that I am reluctant to write a review because I really don't want word to get out about how terrific this unit is. I fear it'll get too popular. When we go back to St Thomas we'll look no further. Great unit, in such a photogenic location, and the owner provided really good, first-rate tips

for making a good stay. He made everything smooth & easy.

Everything I wanted it to be. Relaxed in the hammock, listening to the waves from the ocean. Direct view of St Johns. Could have my own private beach or, go down to the public beach. Close to Red Hook where there's groceries, the ferry and fabulous restaurants

Beautiful views, very nice condo.

Let me just start with a few cons, the "Guide to Relaxation" that is included which gives you a lot of needed information about your stay is awesome BUT it is not up to date, I tried to contact 2 people on there that are no longer associated with this condo, and it should be updated. Second, there are no clean towels after you use them and no maid service unless you pay for it, so plan on using them again, bringing extra or going to launder them. Third, if you get a rental car do yourself a favor and pay the extra for the jeep, the hills are so steep and if you do see regular cars around they're usually beat up pretty bad from the roads. We found ourselves traveling to St John quite a bit for the hiking, snorkeling and shops/bars, if we go back we would probably stay there. But there is also a lot to do on St Thomas but we just preferred St John. Now for the good stuff, this condo is gorgeous and has a breathtaking view, it was so nice to wake up to and listening to the ocean is one of my favorite things about it. It can get pretty warm at night and the ceiling fans in there are not that powerful, the memory foam mattress had us sweating a few times, so I guess it depends what time of year you go. The resort is beautiful also but the parking lot is full of potholes, hopefully they will be updated, I liked the fact that there was security at entrance and patrolling the facility also. The only other suggestion I have is maybe you could install a cascading blind on the balcony above the hammock to block the light from the patio across the way, when you are sitting on the balcony at night and trying to enjoy it the light from their balcony interfered with it. All in all again it's a beautiful condo. It was worth the money.
