As a widow with three boys, I bought our home in 2000 as a place of healing and rest and it has truly been that! We have had wonderful times and have great memories here. We entertained my sons' high school and college friends, one son got engaged here and later married here. We have had extended family reunions here and we look forward to many more years of memory making!
Marietta Gandy Petters purchased this villa in 2000
Equidistant from Atlanta and Charlotte, Lake Toxaway provides a respite from city living and allows us to reunite with family members and loved ones in a beautiful mountain setting. Lake Toxaway provides easy access to the amenities of Highlands, Cashiers and Brevard. No matter what we desire, we always find it when we are 'at the lake!'
Relaxation, relaxation, relaxation. Enjoying friends and family. Gathering around the fireplace. Hiking to our favorite waterfalls. Watching the sun set over the lake from our deck. Watching the lake 'wake up' in the morning.
My family had a week at the lake to remember and felt right at home in this comfy home! There was nothing that was different than what was advertised and was actually even better than expected!
The villa is awesome. We had 3 teenagers and they loved the upstairs/loft area with twin beds and queen and separate sitting area. The view is spectacular. It is very quiet too. The villa has everything you need. It is one of the best vacations ever. We enjoyed lots of hiking to beautiful waterfalls and kayaking the French Broad.
This home and location is lovely! My husband and I vacationed here in December, with goals of resting, spending time together, reading, and exercising. The calm and peaceful atmosphere was just what we were looking for—it was so nice to build a fire and relax as we looked out over the quiet lake.
The house was perfect—much bigger than what the two of us needed, but extra space is always nice! Everything in the house is coordinated and beautifully decorated, yet it’s still functional and “liveable”—it just felt cozy and comfortable.
We went into Brevard (20 minutes away) one day and enjoyed visiting all the local shops. While there, we had lunch at The Falls Landing (great sandwiches, burgers, and hand-cut fries!) and then stumbled upon an authentic soda shop (Rocky’s Soda Shop) and I had a fabulous ice cream brownie sundae and my husband had a frozen lemonade that he is still talking about. There’s also a huge toy store downtown with really friendly and helpful employees.
The house has a gas grill and fully equipped kitchen, and the Ingles in Brevard has a surprisingly good selection of organic foods, so we stayed in a few nights to cook and grill out (there’s also a Redbox at the Ingles if you’re looking for movies). For dinner out one night, we went to the Sapphire Mountain Brewing Company (15 minutes away)—good beers on tap, but the food was only mediocre. Had planned to go to the Brown Trout, just a couple miles away, but they were closed that night (call ahead for hours/reservations if you’re visiting in the off season!).
We brought our road bikes and found a 12-mile loop around the lake—some good hills, and the only traffic to speak of was on Highway 64. We also went for a run around the golf course and it was beautiful.
The owners were very accommodating and easy to work with—quick to respond to our questions and offer suggestions and tips about the area. Our vacation was wonderful and just what we needed—would definitely come back. Thank you for letting us use your cozy home for our time away—it exceeded our expectations and we met all of our vacation goals!
Our family of four, including two boys under the ages of five, spent four nights here, and it wasn't long enough. The home is exceptionally comfortable and the lakefront location is perfect. We spent the mornings on the canoe, afternoons fishing on the dock, and evenings relaxing in the backyard/patio. Jimmy came by to give us suggestions for activities and went above and beyond to guide us. Lake Toxaway now stands as the favorite part of our two-week stay in the western Carolina, and we'll be returning as soon as possible. Thanks.
Assumed property came with club amenities I.e.pool,golf,dining etc.would not rent again unless it comes with membership.greystone dining very disappointing.managed to use club thank to reciprocity with my Florida club.house has too much clutter and not ready at check in.ants in upstairs loft.broken deck chairs.no spare key.excess condiments in frige.
We spent a week in this lovely and comfortable lake home. We rented a boat on two occasions and were able to pull right up to the dock and pick up some of the group. The lake was great for skiing, tubing and just boobing around to cool off in the heat. We cooked steaks on the grill and enjoyed dinner on the porch. The owners were very accommodating with all of our requests for helpful information in advance, and while we were there. Highly recommended property. I don't think the pictures due it justice. It is even prettier than depicted. Make sure you visit the Biltmore--well worth it!
There are many State and National Parks nearby. Transylvania County is call ' the land of waterfalls' Many hikes end at a beautiful waterfal. We have a collection of books that tell about the area and the attractions around there.
If traveling from Atlanta or Cashiers, NC, take Hwy 64 East to Hwy 281. If traveling from Charlotte or Brevard, NC take Hwy 64 West to Hwy 281. We recommend printing Google Maps directions prior to traveling since cell phone service can be intermittent in the mountains.
