Lovely Cottage Near Sleeping Bear Dunes

  • 5 of 5

Great cottage with all the amenities, but also very cozy. Exceptionally clean. The view from the kitchen and dining area is to die for. You feel like you are on the bow of a big boat! We hope to be able to return when the weather is warmer sometime.

Our Perfect Home Away from Home

  • 5 of 5

My husband, father and I have spent 2 weeks a year at the wonderful Little Platte home for 9 years and have already made reservations for 2017. We love everything about it. The cottage is well kept up, in a magnificent setting and equipped with many great amenities.

The kitchen is fine for cooking, and there's also a grill. We like eating at "home", so this place makes eating in both inside and out on the picnic table very comfortable. All travelers enjoy a good night's sleep; here there's usually a cool, dry breeze and fine mattresses. This previous summer we were interested in the olympics, so no problem as the TV is good and the living room has comfortable couches and chairs.

The area is dotted with wonderful towns, with good restaurants, cute shops and very welcoming people. We never fail to see at least a least a couple of concerts or plays at the internationally known Interlochen School/Camp for the Arts. We also like joining the festivities on Friday nights in downtown Traverse City. There are so many outdoor activities like super bike trails, climbing dunes, fruit and vegetable U-pick farms and strolls along Lake Michigan and so many other smaller lakes. At the Fox home, we kayak, play horse shoes, enjoy board games and reading all of which keep us outside as much as possible.

If relaxing, outdoor activities, great dry air and lots of fun sightseeing is your idea of a marvelous week or more, the Fox home will avail you of it all. We already can't wait to return.

Relaxing, beautiful, great location - HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, three kids (ages 8, 6 and 2) stayed for a week. We've been to upper Michigan before, but only to ski, and we're beach people, so cabins in the woods is not our normal/preferred vacation. But our trip was absolutely amazing, beyond expectation. First, the location -- perfect. Close enough to Glen Arbor/Sleeping Bear Dunes, close to Empire, and other small towns in the area. The grocery store was about 15 minutes away, which wasn't too bad. It was not an issue to drive 15/20 minutes to the nearby attractions-the drive was beautiful and we enjoyed the scenery. Little Platte Lake is fantastic! We stayed in July, so the water was warm, my older kids swam and played in it every day. The lake is sandy and very shallow- the end of the dock is about 2.5' deep, so the kids had fun jumping off into the water. The best part of the trip was how peaceful the cottage and lake setting were - it is truly unimaginable. It was so quiet-almost complete silence. My husband and I would use the camp chairs provided and sit down by the water, just watching the water, the clouds, the sky. We were blown away by how quiet it was - no road noise, no AC units, no airplanes, nothing. You'd sometimes hear a critter scurrying, or a bird, but that was it. We live in a big city, so I honestly don't think I've ever experienced such relaxing, peaceful, tranquility. The sunsets were stunning, I took hundreds of photos of our family out in the back yard enjoying the long evenings (this far north you get lots of twilight, which was great!!). The hammock was incredible, my husband and I would take turns napping in it. We did the Platte River trip, with my husband and I and our 2 year old in canoes and we pulled the older kids in tubes- what a trip, highly recommend!! We also rented a pontoon boat on Glen Lake - again, great day on the water, a MUST DO, and of course the dune climb. The cabin was extremely clean, plenty of space, and a beautiful kitchen with a large picture window looking out onto the lake. The kitchen was well appointed-we had everything we needed to cook all of our meals (a word of warning, there are very few restaurant choices, and the ones we went to were disappointing-I was expecting better from a tourist destination). The only downside of the trip were the beds- the double and queen are in desperate need of replacing. I actually had to sleep on the couch all week b/c they were so uncomfortable. Despite that, I still give it 5 stars - it was that awesome!!!

Felt like home!!

I have done a lot of traveling in my life all over this country.....with Michigan being one of my very favorite vacation spots. Fox cottage on little platte lake is by far in my top five places to stay. It is comfortable, all the amenities of home and a whole lot of beauty and relaxation.

I would highly recommend this great place.

Okay, so where do I start? First off, this location was PERFECT. Peaceful, breathtaking, and relaxing. My girlfriend and I took a well needed weekend and I had been shopping for months for a spot for some time away. I found this place, and the rest was history. What was even better is the fact that the fall had just begun and all of the trees were turning colors. This location is perfect and there isn't a single soul in the area that isn't friendly. Never mind the fact that you are just a few minutes away from the Sleeping Bear Dunes, you can stay at the cottage and find plenty to do and enjoy! The house is the right size, the lake is quiet and breathtaking, and the on site amenities were just lovely. We went kayaking for the first time, built a fire, fired up the grill....all on the property itself. Talking about convenient ha? If you want the perfect time away, then email the Fox's and book this while you can! Believe me, no regrets will follow and I assure you, we are coming back.

relaxing on the lake

  • 5 of 5

We just spent a couple of days in this very cozy cottage, with beautiful view on the lake. Everything is as promised on the pictures. The cottage is clean and the view is incredible. My husband, three daughters and I had a blast in the kayaks and my favorite spot was to hang out in the hammock and watch the beautiful sunset on the lake. Nearby Sleeping Bear National park and Traverse City! We would love to come back another time for a longer period of time!
