'My own oasis. I love it.'

'Total privacy with views everywhere.'

'The pool and spa surrounded by mature palms make this a paradise.'

Not in all of Borrego is there a place as yummy as this. Once here, you will quit your job, sell your house and beg the owner to rent you this home forever. It is a true desert oasis with ageless Palm trees, Mesquite, Palo Verde and desert shrubs on two acres of privacy-- real privacy because there is actually a wall around the entire property (pet friendly, too).

And the views are breathtaking of the Santa Rosas, the San Ysidros, Font's Point, sunrises and sunsets. It feels like your own private retreat, a mid-century modern estate that harkens back to the 50's when there was graceful living; dinner out by the pool or the lanai or gazebo; midnight dips in the pool, a few moments in the spa before turning in for the night. In the bustle of modern life you need this home for a week or a month or a season anytime during the year. You will love the silence.

It's a place where you can spread out to read a book or sit and look at your navel or nap. The master suite is even in a separate casita near the pool.

But it is all about the outdoor living. Besides the cook's kitchen inside, there is also an outdoor kitchen. Everywhere you are under the shade of mature desert trees and the private spaces on the property are endless and so are the views. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

If you get bored with the serenity, you can always have a game of badminton or volley ball or horseshoes or bocce ball. Or go into town, which is just moments away or go explore the magnificent 600,000 acre Anza-Borrego Desert State Park or head up to the old mining town of Julian. You are allowed to leave your private paradise occasionally.

So with three bedrooms, two baths, a screened porch, a lanai, several patio areas, a sublime pool and spa, a beautifully landscaped two acres,

What are you waiting for? Run don't walk to your special place in the sun: 43 Palms. You will be back...if you ever leave.

Keywords: Gated Estate in the Country Club Area - less than a mile from town. Unique palm trees and native plants, large pool and flagstone patios - come and relax away from the crowd - bring your dog, we are pet owners and pet friendly.

A different review

The title needs an explanation so here goes. We contacted Richard Scott to rent his property for 3 nights in June. We were coming over to Borrego to play golf on a Monday and Tuesday. The dates were open and we booked a 3 night stay. Several days later I called Ram's Hill to reserve tee times and found out that they had just instituted a new policy. They are now closed on Monday and Tuesday starting with the two days we had planned to be there. They didn't put a notice on their website and while they were apologetic for their non-notice, closed is closed so we had no place to play. I then contacted Richard and explained what had happened and asked if we could cancel. He was very understanding and offered a later three nights but two couples already had travel plans for other places during those dates. We were pretty much at his mercy and he could have easily said sorry but a deal is a deal. But he understood our situation and was gracious and kind enough to let us cancel with no penalty. We plan to reschedule in the fall when the golf course reopens and we will definitely use Richard again. We can't review the property but we can certainly give five stars to Richard and his treatment of us in this situation.

Great getaway for the weekend

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay. Our two dogs enjoyed exploring the premises while we relaxed by the pool. We spent most our time outside, grilling and swimming. The house is clean, comfortable, and well equipped with anything you might need or wish you had brought. We will definitely go back. And are happy we stumbled across this rental!

Great family compound in the middle of beautiful Borrego

  • 5 of 5

This rare vintage mid-century modern solid masonry home is larger than expected. Big bedrooms and main bath, grand fireplace, screened in porch, separate in-law suite. Several outdoor patios with firepits, beautiful deep pool and spa offering great views of the mountains and stars. Lots of privacy, lots of land, lots of parking. I'm guessing it was designed and built by a famous Palm Springs architect because you can tell it was quite an estate home when first built. Everything was in working order, even all the original windows. Galley kitchen has been updated, functions well and has everything you'll need. Large mud room has full size W/D. The grounds once held an enormous water feature with piles of rocks winding about like a riverbed that has since been abandon. The grounds of this old estate are overgrown but the herculean task of modernizing so many acres of landscaping will take some time and effort and it certainly won't interfere with your stay. You will have a great time here. If you are an architecture buff you especially love it.

Amazing Private Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed here for three nights with our two young children (4 years and 9 months) and we loved it so much more than we could have ever imagined. As we drove into the harsh desert and its mid-90s temps from the San Diego coast we started questioning why we were taking a vacation out here, but as soon as we saw the house we knew we would have a great time. And we did! Richard and his wife were there to greet us upon check in and provide a helpful tour of the home, and for the next three days we were in paradise. The most unique part of this rental is the absolute privacy - two full acres to yourself, all fenced in and away from neighbors and noise, and well off the main roads so you can appreciate the peace and tranquility of the desert landscape. We spent the days in the pool and jacuzzi, made ample use of the great outdoor grill, and our favorite part was choosing between THREE different fire pits to roast marshmallows and watch the stars at night. We have rented many different homes across the country (and world), and we were especially impressed with how well stocked the home was - with loads of firewood, pool toys, extra towels, kitchen equipment, and even little things like spices. We didn't want for anything during our trip and are definitely coming back!

Private oasis surrounded by Anza Borrego

  • 4 of 5

Loved it! Fantastic outdoor space including pool, jacuzzi, fireplace, comfy lounge chairs for stargazing, beautiful views of mountains and desert. Inside great too...comfy beds, clean bathrooms and kitchen, screened in eating area, nice living room. Owner provided good customer service, getting back to me within an hour or two. Our dogs loved it too. Great energy!! Would definitely stay here again.
