Edgewood Lodge presents a country cottage soul, in a Catskills cabin body. Flooded with light from its many windows, the heart of the house is the open living, kitchen and dining area. Comfortable seating makes a perfect place to chat into the evening, while in winter the wood stove with glass front provides a cozy touch. It's also a great spot to relax with a good flick after your hike. The well-stocked kitchen is user-friendly, and has a generous island for bountiful meal preparations. Head out to the sunny front deck via the glass sliders and sip your morning coffee in complete tranquility.
A brief corridor off the living room leads to two delightful bedrooms, (both queens) and a wood-paneled bathroom with tub/shower. Upstairs is the pretty third bedroom, also a queen.
The Edgewood Lakes community is very informal, and includes two lakes for your use and enjoyment, one of which is deep enough for swimming, but both of which have scenic walking paths around the perimeter and access for dropping in your kayak or canoe. These are non-motorboat lakes and residents prize the peace and quiet and the unspoiled natural beauty of the area. Adjacent to Edgewood Lakes is Lake Waneta, another option for fishing, paddling and exploring. The town of Livingston Manor is about seven minutes away.
I am an Irishman living in New York City. As a hairdresser for fashion shoots, I travel all over the globe for most of the year. However, when I am in New York, I like to spend a lot of time upstate at my home, which I love. I recently married and my wife lives in Italy, so now I have barely any free time to spend up at the house. I would love share this idyllic home with others who would appreciate it as much as I do.
Leon Gorman purchased this chateau / country house in 2006
I originally purchased this home as I have a lot of friends who live in the area, and I found myself spending a lot of time upstate. I soon realized that I had to have a home of my own. This home was love at first sight, like living amongst the trees in peace and quiet. I have put a considerable amount of time, money and love into this house.
There are plenty of outdoor activities close by, if you so chooses. Otherwise, a relaxing environment for all.
This lovely house is located in a quaint lake community. While there was no official guide on how to take care of the house, Leon was quick to answer many of our questions via e-mail (i.e. how the TV works, equipment for grilling etc.). My boyfriend and I enjoyed a pleasant Memorial Day weekend of BBQ-ing, hiking, stargazing and walking around the town of Livingston Manor. There's no AC in the main floors of the home, but we found that keeping the windows open was sufficient for keeping the temperature down. My only disclaimer is that the picture with the kayak/boats was slightly misleading, as those do not belong to this rental house. Otherwise, the pictures do justice! We'd recommend this house for couples, friends and families.
A cozy, comfortable cottage in a lovely wooded setting, a short walk from two lakes and a short ride to many great hikes and to Livingston Manor -- check out Flour Power Bakery, Main Street Farm, and Plunk! The house was just as described, perfectly clean, with all amenities. Great communication with the owner. Would definitely rent it again.
This was a charming house with nice light in a beautiful area. The home was clean and inviting and the owner was very easy to communicate with. We had a lovely time.
The cabin was exactly what I expected from the picture and the description. The owner was extremely helpful in making sure I found the place and that I found everything acceptable and in good condition. All of my questions were answered quickly and resolved any small problems I encountered (just finding things, etc.) It was perfect for myself and my child and 2 dogs. The huge back yard provided hours of fun for all of us. The kitchen had pretty much everything we required and I was able to cook full meals just like at home. The broadband internet was terrific and that means a lot to my "gamer" child. It was clean and organized and very inviting when we arrived.
The area is perfect for hiking and lake activities. Our dogs spent 25% of their time here in the local lake and river. The outside seating areas are perfect for sunning and eating and I was able to enjoy a glass of wine in the rain, under the covered porch. I found all my shopping needs met in Livingston Manor at Peck's Grocery Store and next door liquor store. Linens were excellent. Although the cabin seems rustic the modern lighting, carpeting, drapes and bedding made it seem very "south of france". We really enjoyed our time here.
I cannot say enough good things about this lovely house. It is kept very clean and is a comfortable space. The owner has provided a home you can slip easily into and feel "at home". After a few weeks of a vacation, it was hard to say goodbye. There are nearby swimming holes, fishing access spots, and farmers' markets. And within a short drive we even found some lovely restaurants. Most impressively, the property and the deck allowed us to travel with our son and find things to do, regardless of the weather.
Well, what can I say? This property and our stay were fantastic! A beautiful cabin located on a private drive about 10 minutes drive from Livingston Manor, "the gateway to the Catskills". The cabin easily accommodated the 5 people (including our 4 year boy) in our party with plenty of room for relaxation inside and out. Communication with the owner was A++ with any questions very quickly dealt with. The property is perfectly located for the many activities on offer in the area. Very near Bethel (the site of Woodstock), numerous mountain lakes (with boating and monitored swimming areas) and amazing villages with plenty of exploring opportunities. And only 2 hours from Manhattan, making the odd day trip extremely easy. Needless to say we will definitely be returning and have already recommended it to several friends.
