Hilo District House Rental Photos and Description

Beautiful & Clean 2BR/2BA Onomea Scenic Drive, Ocean Views, 10 min to town

Enjoy Hawaii's beautiful ocean views and the tropical landscaping in this private home with gated entry. Our open-styled kitchen/family room with high ceilings and skylights provides for great family time and spacious comfort to relax in. Spend hours on the wrap-around deck enjoying the tropical breezes and Hawaiian ambiance.

Sit back and have breakfast on the lanai and be mesmerized by our spectacular sunrises, watch for the humpback whales from the patio, or see the cruise ships make their way toward Hilo. Be dazzled by our incredible night sky and plan for an evening of stargazing high upon Mauna Kea.

Centrally located in East Hawaii on the Onomea Scenic Route, often called the most beautiful place on the Big Island, you will find yourself in old Hawaii. Not a room, not a section, but the whole house is yours to relax in, with the heart of Hilo town about 10 minutes away, serene Akaka Falls and Honomu Town ten minutes away, and the must see Volcano National Park a scenic 45 minutes away.

The Hamakua coastine's best-kept secret is our unique tradewind weather that encourages most of the rainfall to occur in the early mornings and evenings, leaving the day fresh and clean with sunshine and breezes. You will not be disappointed by the colors, plants, museums, gardens, and tours. Many of our attractions comes with no costs other than your camera to help you savor your memories.

Vacationers and those here on business have loved the high-speed internet connection with wireless capabilities. Keep in touch with family and friends, instantly sending them pictures of your daily adventures. Our free long distance digital services adds another route to share moments and catch up with old friends. Slow down, relax, enjoy life, and take the time to re-connect.

Honeymoon, enjoy your keiki (children), or write a book. The ocean views, tropical landscaping, and peace of old Hawaii at the Malia Bree will surely inspire you to not only 'Be On Vacation,' but 'Feel on Vacation'!

Cathedral knotty pine ceilings, skylights and ceiling fans through the home gives you a spacious feeling, as the central cupola floods the open family room/kitchen with a soft airy light. You will spend hours on the wrap-around deck feeling the Hawaiian trade winds, watching the trees sway and listening to the birds sing. About The Malia Bree at Onomea- Lyndy

Aloha and thank you for your interest in renting with us. We are on island operators and take pride in making sure that everything is operating well and that your needs are well served. We are available 24/7 for helping you while you are on vacation and enjoying this beautiful area.

The Malia Bree at Onomea- Lyndy purchased this house in 2005

Why The Malia Bree at Onomea- Lyndy chose Hilo District

We have been open as a vacation rental since 2005 and specifically purchased this property for it's location, views, Hawaiiana feel and neighborhood. We are just 5 minutes away to help you with your vacation needs and questions. The Onomea Scenic Route is just an incredible drive to take. Onomea is so close to town, yet in the most beautiful tropical paradise and offers you lush landscaping and nature all around you.

What makes this house unique

This home is just wonderful. The large frosted cupola in the center of the home floods the home with a wonderful soft glow, and the layout makes the home a perfect for family time and vacationing. It's such a great plan and home, it has been duplicated more than once by our previous guests! Now that's flattering! The home is well stocked with most everything you will need.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Lyndy, My son said it all when he walked up the stairs and looked into the window. "Mom, this place is awesome!" We just came from Oahu, and are on to Kona but there is no question in my mind that Malia Bree will be our favorite home away from home. Our time here is definitely too short.

What makes this place so special? The fact that it feels so native Hawaiian, the wonderful fresh fruit smoothies across the street, the beautiful road through unbelievably lush jungle, the quaint feel of Hilo town with the diverse farmer's market--but mostly the spirit of "Aloha" that your showed us from the first e-mail . You treated us like family visiting. We cannot thank you enough for teaching us the spirit of Hawaii Mahalo

lovely quiet peaceful retreat with all comforts

  • 5 of 5

The home was easy to locate with the directions lyndy provided before our arrival. The flowers on arrival was a nice homely touch. The home is very well maintained and had excellent standards in regards to cleanliness. The layout of the house was fantastic as my parents were on one side of the house and my aunt and I were on the other. The front door steps are very easy to climb (lower then even normal steps!!). We survived the first big storm of the season without loss of power but the rain came down very heavy. We loved the view and woke to a number of animals (chickens, turkeys, cows etc) in the paddock in the mornings. The drive into Hilo itself is not that far (10mins) and we did a day trip up to the Volcano national park. Thanks Lyndy for going the extra mile you have fantastic customer service skills and I would recommed this property to family and friends.

Owner's Response: Thank you Dee! The rainstorm was impressive! Even to us islanders who should be use to it. Glad that you made the most of it and still got to see and do everything that you wanted to do. Thank you for your response. It really helps our prospective guests get a feel of what they can look forward to, and credibility to our vacation rental. The cows in the lot across us are very entertaining indeed. Next time, if you are lucky, you may catch a family of piglets running across the fence line! Mahalo and a fond aloha! Hope you can return to the Big Island again someday. Lyndy

Beautiful and peaceful place to stay.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for nine nights. The house was perfect for our needs. The bugs are really crazy in the evenings and seem to find ways inside the house. We would just watch a movie in the evening with the lights out and that seemed to solve the bug problem. There is no air conditioning in the house but it really doesn't need one. A few evenings it was a little warm but nothing unbearable. You just want to make sure you have some loose comfy clothes to lounge around the house in. The washer and dryer were a huge blessing on such a long trip. The kitchen has everything you need. If you plan on using the grill make sure you use bug spray. The only time we had problems with bugs outside was when we grilled out. We would definitely stay again.

Felt like home!

  • 5 of 5

Lyndy finds a nice balance in being helpful to you, yet gives you your space. I mention this because we once stayed at a house where the owner lived next door, and we felt like we were little children being watched and we walked on egg shells the whole time. Lyndy will check in with you via email and text before and after your trip.

It’s the details that impressed me about this property. The area is rural and very dark at night, but this property has solar-powered, motion detector lights outside…as soon as you pull into the driveway from the dark street you approach the garage that is well-lit so it’s easier to pull in, load/unload. The path and stairway up to the front door is also lit. The surrounding trees had fresh, scented flowers that were blooming. When we checked in, there was Hawaiian music greeting us from the radio, fresh bananas on the table, a notebook with useful notes about the house and surrounding areas from the owner and previous tenants. The kitchen and bathrooms were fully stocked, the kitchen having a modern stove, fridge, and convenient washer and dryer. The front closet had umbrellas and beach items. Some of this may sound like non-priorities, but it’s the thoughtfulness of the little things that let us know that Lyndy takes pride and care of her house and clients.

If I were to be picky, things you should know about: We were here in May, so I don’t know if this is seasonal…but we couldn’t spend that much time outside on the wrap-around patio/lanai to enjoy the view for very long because there were gnats/mosquitos outside. There are many coqui frogs outside that will “sing” to you at night…although after a while we became used to them and slept fine. If you have a fear of cows (we don’t), they will be a nice surprise in the morning as they have breakfast and dinner on the property behind you.

If you can, visit/support the surrounding small businesses. There is a small convenience store about 3-4 blocks down (opposite direction of the Botanical Garden) that serves hot meals, coffee, ice cream shakes, etc. on your way to/from your travels of the day. They are super friendly and remembered our names each day we visited. You will find that this is the charm of the Hilo side of the Big Island…be kind to locals, and they will make you feel at home.

Mahalo, Lyndy, for offering your beautiful house to others. It looked even better in person than in the pictures!

Fantastic Country House with Beautiful Views!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed here during our stay in Hilo. My husband and I ran the Hilo Marathon, so we were looking for a home that was comfortable but also an easy drive to town. This home is the perfect home for 2 couples! It's open floor plan has gorgeous views and a fantastic layout. You'll enjoy the deck and scenery each and every morning. Hilo is just a quick 10 minute drive to the south and their is a small market within walking distance. The Botanical Gardens are just a mile down the street as well.

The owner of this home, Lyndy, is very responsive and was quick to answer any questions I had. She's truly thought of pretty much any amenity you might need in this home.
