Our home is viewed by all who visit as a peaceful and calming place to relax and enjoy the lush landscape and nature during the summers and the cozy fireplaces (4) during the winters. Most of our guests spend their time right here, just reading, visiting, hiking and fishing. This houses’ open concept living area is perfect for visiting with friends and family! It is also a perfect place to use as a home base after spending the days and nights seeing the sights of Southwest Colorado. Within a 5 minute walk through our meadow, down to the river, will land you at the trophy trout section of the Animas River where secluded fly fishing is abundant. Our 2200 square foot single level house has 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 3 fireplaces inside and an open cozy floor plan perfect for gatherings. There is an outdoor kitchen area with Barbeque, fireplace and furnished perfectly for outdoor relaxation and fun. The property is on 3 acres, with 2 ponds surrounded by green grass, several gardens, and trees. The wildlife (deer, wild turkeys, eagles, geese),.are part of our daily views.

The house is located less than 15 minutes south of Durango, so it is close enough to enjoy all that the town offers. As well the access to ski areas (Alpine and Nordic), hiking and biking are all less than an hour away. If you’re looking for a getaway to relax, this house is the serene escape you’ll love as much as we do!

My wife and I loved the location of this piece of property and the abundant water rights that comes with it. However when we first purchased the home, it and the land needed allot of work. We spent 6 years renovating it to the relaxing house it is today. We are very proud of the changes we have made, especially the landscaping and timber frame accents throughout the house. We are both retired and enjoy woodworking, renovating homes and the outdoors – especially gardening and flyfishing.

We love Southwest Colorado but particularly this property, because of the proximity to the river and the location here in the South Animas River Valley. We want others to experience the peace and contentment that comes with this house and hope to share it with others that will appreciate it.

Although southwest Colorado s known for its dry climate and vegetation, this house is unique in that it has lush vegetation, giving it a cool and peaceful atmosphere in the summer. Being located in the South Animas River Valley gives us “banana belt” weather during the winter, meaning we have slightly warmer temperatures than the homes on the mesas, prairies and in the forested areas.
Everything is great and the setting is beautiful.
Well, none of us wants to leave tomorrow. I think I could sit forever and look at your magnificent view.
I'm sure we'll be back again.

We absolutely loved our time on Rainbow Rd. It was the perfect home base for our family of 5 and our lab. We enjoyed many hours relaxing & spending time together on the back patio, and the yard was large enough for the boys to play whiffle ball & football. We loved our daily visits from the neighboring horse & llamas, and could not have asked for a better setting for our vacation. Thank you Chris & Bob for sharing your home with us!!
As soon as you drive up to the beautiful adobe style front entrance you can just feel the love this house offers. This is a beautiful home that is filled with unique designs and artistry. Chris & Bob's passion for creativity is hard to miss. We so enjoyed our relaxing visit. We had everything we needed from kitchen to bath. The location is perfect, close enough to town and central enough for day trips to Hovenweep, Telluride and Canyon de Chelly. I hope we are fortunate to come back again and again! Thank you for allowing us to share your home.
We were immediately impressed with the beauty of and the care for this idyllic property. The place accommodated a family of 6 and 2 spirited canines comfortably. Bob and Chris's hospitality was unparalleled and the house was well stocked for the chef even down to sharp knives!
The " back road" into Durango on the 213 is scenic and easy with less traffic.
Sadly, the fireflies had moved on.
Thanks for sharing these delightful accommodations.
Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home – it far exceeded our expectations. The craftsmanship and esthetic décor was wonderful, we had a great time and your home was an amazing place to come home to at the end of a day enjoying the Durango area.
We especially enjoyed all the outdoor decks and the many hummingbirds that came to the birdfeeders.
We would highly recommend your home to anyone looking for a place to stay in the Durango area
Thank you so much.

We have been coming to Durango for years and this is the first time we stayed south of town. We loved it! The location was far enough that it was really quiet and peaceful and close enough that it wasn't a big deal to head into town. The house was perfect for our six year old daughter and our two dogs, in fact I'm not sure who had more fun. Between the decks, the patio and the yard, we spent very little time indoors. If you like being outside and enjoying wildlife- this is the place for you.
As far as the house goes, the setup they have outside can't be beat. Multiple outdoor spaces to sit and play games or enjoy a meal or morning coffee. It seems like they get more types of birds visiting their feeders than we could count. We are outside playing all the time and want a place that is comfortable, clean, cozy, well-stocked, and off the beaten path and this definitely fit the bill for that. Kitchen was well stocked and we cooked a lot of our meals there. When it got warm in the evenings, we cranked up the attic fan and it cooled things down quite nicely. We used the outdoor fireplace many times for roasting marshmallows in the evenings.
The homeowners could not have been more welcoming or accommodating, making sure that we knew their field filled with lightening bugs every night around 9:30-10p. Our daughter got to witness them for the first time and this was really special. We will be staying her again.
We came when it was very snowy so spent most of our time inside. We wanted a place we could hang out with our daughter, her husband and 2 yr old granddaughter. Everyone loved it. The house is very open and airy, and the wood floors and counter tops are lovely. For anyone with very young children, we were a bit concerned with all the knickknacks and stairs leading down to the outdoor kitchen, but we kept an eye on our granddaughter and everything was fine. We made use of the well stocked kitchen and enjoyed the hot tub. The house is in a very picturesque location, and we took a lot of pictures outside. The skiing was great at nearby Purgatory Ski Resort. The owners were attentive and made sure we were taken care of. This is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy Durango.
