My wife and I are proud parents of three girls, and our family has enjoyed our cottage in Lakeside for many years. We really enjoy the entire local community - it has such charm and character.
You can't beat Southwestern Michigan in the summer, but we have also enjoyed Harbor Country in the late fall and winter - the area has so much to offer.
Bill Mountford purchased this cottage in 2007
We only live 33 miles from the property, so in less than 45 minutes we can escape to an entirely different world. The original foundation dates to 1895, and this cottage has so much character and charm we just fell in love with the place.
One of the previous owners was a landscape architect, so the gardens are special. Our 'summer cottage' offers a great place to have a happy hour or let the kids escape to their 'own' private place. The grounds of our property are beautiful, and there are few better places to be than making s'mores at the fire pit after a great day at the beach.

What a true Harbor Country experience we were lucky enough to enjoy at Lakeside Grove Cottage! The home and grounds are simply charming. Every touch, every bit of decor is thoughtfully executed. Three big bedrooms meant our girls' weekend for three gave us plenty of room to stretch out. From enjoying coffee in the AM on the screened-in front porch to enjoying red wine and s'mores around the fire pit in the PM... this property gave us memories that will last for a lifetime. Thank you!!
We had a lovely two night stay at the Lakeside Grove Cottage. We were three couples from Milwaukee, Chicago, and Holland and Lakeside proved to be a great meeting point for all of us. The cozy cottage has everything you need for a weekend. We had a lot of fun visiting the nearby wineries, dinner in Sawyer, shopping at local antique shops, and using the large table for plenty of games. We didn't get a chance to take advantage of the garden/yard and fire pit, but I'm sure it'd be a great hit in the summer. Bill was great to communicate with and provided very detailed instructions for our stay. Highly recommend!
It was the perfect get-away! My husband, dog & I spent 5 great days at the cottage. First of all, the cottage is great! I loved the decor; it was welcoming, charming, comfy, clean - everything you could hope for. The kitchen has everything you need. We made ourselves a nice breakfast every morning and made dinner some nights. The area is beautiful! We took a lot of nice walks. It's a short walk to the beach, and the cottage is located in a nice quiet wooded neighborhood. There were games and puzzles in the cottage and at night we would drink a few beers, put together a puzzle, talk and relax. I cannot tell you how long it's been since I did a puzzle but we enjoyed it so much I ordered a few when we got home!
Book this cottage - you'll love it! When you stay here, ladies check out the Evolve spa 10 minutes down the road in New Buffalo. Also the Journeyman distillery nearby has great food & spirits!
We loved our time here and hope to come back soon.
Lakeside Grove Cottage is adorable! It is such a relaxing retreat. From the moment you walk into the kitchen you feel instantly at home. The artwork is colorful and fun. It is furnished comfortably. We enjoyed the front porch. The gardens are charming. We would highly recommend Lakeside Grove Cottage. Thank you Bill and family.
We enjoyed everything about our visit to Lakeside Grove Cottage! The home is very comfortable and has an instant feeling of being at home and relaxed. The kitchen is well appointed if you want to do some cooking, and there are also lovely restaurants to check out in the area. There is a little hike to the beach access, but it's such a charming neighborhood, and so quiet, it didn't detour us from going down there for sunset walks on the beach and even a day spent hanging out on the beach. We loved the fact that there was internet and cable, and many nights were spent cheering for our favorite athletes at the Olympics. We have friends who don't live too far away so we were able to have an evening bon fire with friends. We are hoping to return to the little cottage some time in the future! Thanks so much to the Mountfords for your hospitality!
Bill's cottage was a fantastic getaway! We really made use of the whole property. The four of us had a great time using the bikes in the shed on a trail nearby, took beach umbrellas and floaties down to the beach, spent each night by the firepit, enjoyed a lazy afternoon reading and chatting out in the summer cottage (screened-in-porch type thing), grilled for dinner, and used the laundry in the basement on the way out.
The property was clean and well maintained, instructions were clear, and neighborhood/area was quiet and comfortable. 10/10 and two thumbs up :)
