Historic and Charming
About Bill Mountford
My wife and I are proud parents of three girls, and our family has enjoyed our cottage in Lakeside for many years. We really enjoy the entire local community - it has such charm and character. You can't beat Southwestern Michigan in the summer, but we have also enjoyed Harbor Country in the late fall and winter - the area has so much to offer.
Bill Mountford purchased this Cottage in 2007
Why Bill Mountford chose Lakeside
We only live 33 miles from the property, so in less than 45 minutes we can escape to an entirely different world. The original foundation dates to 1895, and this cottage has so much character and charm we just fell in love with the place.
What makes this Cottage unique
One of the previous owners was a landscape architect, so the gardens are special. Our 'summer cottage' offers a great place to have a happy hour or let the kids escape to their 'own' private place. The grounds of our property are beautiful, and there are few better places to be than making s'mores at the fire pit after a great day at the beach.

The cottage and detached screened “porch” were just perfect. I was especially impressed by the quality of the bed linens. The fire pit and bocce were much appreciated. The four of us had a terrific stay.
The pictures don't do this place justice. It was charming. The cottage is well appointed, plenty of towel, beach chairs, bicycles, and kitchen supplies. The house is super comfy, and the summer cottage a great place to hang out for drinks and conversations. Thank Bill, for opening your darling home to us!
Cabin in the woods
Very nice as advertised rental. Owner was very accommodating and friendly. Everything you needed was there to the smallest detail. Only detraction was proximity to railroad tracks. Trains were loud, but thankfully not a whole lot overnight(3-4 during week stay). We rate a place as to if we would return and we most certainly would.
A little slice of heaven
My family of four (myself, husband, son, and dog) had a wonderful, comfortable, and relaxing time at the cottage. It is very clean and well-appointed. The outdoor space is fantastic! Bill emailed us important information about the cottage and was quick in answering questions and requests for recommendations. The location, though it is central to all the points of interests in and around the area, is not ideal to those who are very sensitive to noise. Because the cottage is located next (behind Lakeside Antiques) to Red Arrow Highway and the freight train track is next to the highway, there is considerable noise through out the day and in the evening. However, you only hear the highway noise when you are out in the front porch; but the freight train, although it does not come frequently, you could hear and feel.
Very nice and clean accomadations
This lakeside cottage is a beautiful place to stay and use as a great jumping off place to visit different attractions in the harbor area. Frankly, the pictures of place are beautiful but if anything, the place is even prettier than the pictures indicate. The only drawback, and its a tiny one, is that the rail line goes by across the road a few times a day and Red arrow highway traffic can be heard. However, this was never a bother and did not awaken us at night. There are many places to eat in the surrounding area and over a five day stay, we would not hit them all. We did not have a bad meal while there and Bill pointed us to a couple of outstanding places. The accommodations were well stocked and clean and I would be hard pressed to make any recommendations to the cottage. I would gladly stay here again and plan to whenever we are in the area.
Bill was an excellent host with timely and thorough communication. The cottage was comfortable and spacious. Wish we had more time to enjoy the outdoor space as well.
