Purchased the cottage with a high school classmate and long-time friend and her husband. Although we grew up in nearby Honesdale, I live in Maryland and Martha and Steve live at the Jersey shore.
Martha Jamison purchased this cottage in 2005
We looked at several lakefront cottages but Lake Ariel has always held the perception of a prestigious summer playground. Although it may or may not still be true, we recalled this from our childhoods, and fell in love with the lake.
A few comments from a repeating happy customer:
1) We had another nice visit. Actually got to get out on the lake this time as we did have some moments in between the rain. It was a sad visit though as our 14 1/2 year old dog has bladder cancer, and we learned from our Vet on Tuesday her blood results now show she's in severe Kidney failure. We don't expect her to make it another week. So, it was difficult knowing that was the last time she'll get to be at the cottage with us. She loved it there and always seemed to feel at home. Thanks again for allowing us to always bring her with us.
2) We had another nice and relaxing stay. Used the fireplace a lot this time around. Our older dog (14 yrs old) loved laying by the fire.
3) We had a nice time while we were there. It was great fireplace weather.
What a great vacation we had in this charming lakefront cottage. The scenery was beautiful, the water crystal clear, and the fishing was fantastic! Catches included muskie, perch, bass, blugill, and catfish. Oh, and a 14" Crappie (that's a big one)!!
The cottage was conveniently located to restaurants, groceries, and even an eye doctor I needed to see while there. We also found plenty of antique shops to keep us busy in the area.
But what we really enjoyed was no phone and no internet, and we never watched the television. What a way to "get away"! The cottage is amply furnished with videos, games, magazines, and books for your pleasure. We highly recommend this cottage for a relaxing vacation.
This cottage on Lake Ariel truly was a charming getaway for myself and 5 of my friends to celebrate the impending nuptials of one of the ladies. The cottage was absolutely adorable and the yard and private dock were just as pictured! We really enjoyed relaxing on the dock and paddling around the dock on a few rafts we brought along with us. The water trampoline unfortunately did not have very much air in it, so it was incredibly hard to balance on, as it just sunk in towards the center, but it was still a fun idea.
The rental contact was incredibly helpful and attentive. We were provided with a lot of activity ideas in the area, but ended up spending almost the entire weekend just at the cottage/lake, because it was so relaxing! We did go to Ehrhardt's restaurant on Lake Wallenpaupack, which was about a 25 minute drive, but the food was delicious and well worth the drive! All around we couldn't have been more pleased with our experience at Lake Ariel cottage!!
Cottage was very clean and accurate in description. Had a great time playing air hockey and foosball. Boys were bummed they couldn't fish. The lake was still frozen in April. Will have to return when they could enjoy the fishing since that was the main purpose for the trip. Still had good family bonding time. Limited tv channels, so lots of game time. Loved the cable run for our dog. He really loved being away with his family!
thank you for sharing your home with us.

Very cozy house! We felt right at home! We are a family of 4 (couple + 2 kids). Perfectly for our size. Enough room to accomodate all of us, and give us some space whenever we wanted a little more private time for self. I would think 5 or 6 people would still be OK, since there is space, but kinda loses a bit of comfort (cramped). For us it was perfect! The extra toys, TV and the little hot tub were great for the kids who loved it! Specially for a time of so much snow! The backyard is very extensive and kids also loved playing outside, even more when the lake froze up after the low temperatures we had! They were amazed walking on it on the edges of it! All in all, we definitely recommend it and would rent it again! The owner is the best to deal with! The only thing my wife noticed the covers/blankets stored in the game room closet needed a little extra wash for they smelled a little "closet old" and the covers for the bed upstairs same thing. No way this would affect the 5 stars because we loved it and the house was really in good shape and VERY clean!
My family rented this lovely lakeside cottage at the last minute and we couldn't have been happier. We were looking for a relaxing getaway and also a place that would allow my son to bring his dog. This cottage was just the place for us. We are a family of 5 and found the accommodations to be perfect for our needs. Kathleen, the owner, couldn't have been more responsive to our very last minute request and she send us all of the information that we needed to enjoy our time at her cottage. The property was well maintained and very clean. We enjoyed sitting on the dock by the lake, relaxing on the hammock in the large yard and playing cards on the deck overlooking the lake. I would recommend this place and hope to return in the future.
The home is exactly as advertised. It is charming and the location is breath taking. We are very limited on vacation choices as we need to bring our dog with us wherever we go and this turned out to be the perfect choice. the home is well stocked with dishes, flatware, pots and pans. Our only problem was we didn't book a long enough stay, we were sad to leave and will be booking a longer stay very soon. We have rented other homes in the past, so far this has been the best by far for the price. We really didn't venture out in the area as we were very happy just enjoying the home. Made a fire down by the lake every night and just enjoyed the peacefulness. I hope this will be the first of many more stays in this home!
