The house is a completely self contained home, with the owners living in a suite on the ground floor, so they are available if guests need any help with appliances, etc., or if a light bulb needs changing. There is no connection between the home and the suite and guests have the full use of the back yard, patio and bar-b-que area, as well as the off-street parking spot at the front of the home.
The Owner purchased this house in 1990
This is a very comfortable and elegant house in a cute, safe and convenient neighborhood. A friend and I and our 2 teenage daughters spend 5 days here for sightseeing and soccer tourism. The house has 3 nice bedrooms, TV room, living room, great kitchen, beautiful garden, laundry, elegant furniture, etc. The landlords are very kind and helpful with advice on getting around/dining/etc. if needed.
The location is in a quiet tree-lined older neighborhood in Kits area close to downtown and you can walk in just a few min to great food/beach/bus routes/grocery/parks/shopping/etc. Some terrific bakeries (Sollys for cinnamon rolls) and restaurants (Nuba!). We rented bikes close by, there are many safe bike paths nearby (even for kids). Very easy to catch bus into town (15-20min).
Drawbacks? Not many come to mind, but parking is tight. Careful backing up in driveway due to a close by tree. A car is helpful to go hiking in mountains but otherwise is not needed at all. Taxi from airport is ~$25-30 (20min).
Conclusion: It was great. We would definitely come back.
If you are looking for a wonderful place to stay while in Vancouver, then look no further. We had the privilege of staying in this lovely home for 6 nights. It is warm, inviting, and charming. It has everything you need for that home away from home. We spent every afternoon in the garden enjoying the serenity. The neighborhood is perfect for strolling and enjoying the lush greenery and flowers. A short walk to the beach to watch the sunset is a must. Thanks to Alec and Sue for answering our questions and making us feel so welcome. We absolutely loved our stay here and hope to return in the future. We definitely would stay here again!!!!
For our family vacation, we spent 8 nights in this lovely Kitsilano place, this place felt just like a home away from home. We were greeted with a vase of beautiful tulips. The place had everything we needed, just like the previous reviewer had put: all you need to buy is food.
Before going there, I read many good reviews about the place, I had a rather high expectation, and I must admit that it even exceeded my expectation. The house is beautifully decorated with antique furniture and paintings, yet it is so convenient with all the modern appliances you might expect, free WIFI and parking. We enjoyed very much having breakfast in the bright kitchen, overlooking the beautiful backyard garden.
The location of this place is great, it is close to the airport, UBC, the beach, and many other sights in Vancouver.
We would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Vancouver, and would like to return for our next visit. Thanks for everything, Susan!
We had a tremendous visit to Vancouver and this property was the perfect home away from home. We traveled with our 2 young children and our nanny for one month. We work from home so having a spacious home with a lot of light was a definite asset for us, and this property delivered.
The house is impeccably kept with an amazing kitchen (any appliance or cooking utensil you can think of), our kids loved sharing the room with the twin bed, and our bedroom on the main floor had a wonderful view of the garden to wake up to each morning.
The owners were tremendously kind and helpful, always quick to answer any questions we had. Susan even hooked us up with someone who sells locally made organic soups!
The property itself is in an ideal location. We had meetings downtown and one quick bus had us there in 15 minutes. The science center was easily accessed by bus as well and our kids had a great time going there often. Close to the house are many parks and playgrounds, and walking to the beach took no time at all. The neighborhood is beautiful, with a small community garden in the roundabout on the street. Our son even made friends with a neighbor boy.
I can not say enough wonderful things about this property, and I highly recommend it for a short or a long stay. It truly felt to us like our home for the short period of time that we were there. It will be my first choice of rental when we return to Vancouver.
We are regular users of VRBO and vaction rentals in general. Over the years we have booked and stayed in dozens. This property is amongst the best, definitely in the top three. The other two are in Paris.
Susan and Sandy understand the market and present a property that exceeds expectations in every way. The house is spacious, spotlessly clean, well decorated and so comfortable. The location is five star with restaurants shopping in both directions, and an easy bus ride to the city. We, on a couple of occassions walked along the beach and waterfront into town. Being rugby tragics we walked outbound to a local rugby club which was located by the beach, to watch the match of the day. Whilst in Vancouver we visted the Aquarium and participated in the Beluga Whale experience, not cheap but so worth it.
We highly recommend this Kitsilano property and would stay there again in a heartbeat.
This home is ideal for out of town guests and entertaining small groups. Beautifully decorated, with a warm and homey family atmosphere. The home feels very Victorian and classic, but with modern touches--and a beautiful rustic back garden. We got married that weekend and held a small reception in this lovely home for friends and out of town relatives. It will always have a special place in our hearts. The owners were extremely accommodating to our needs. I could also see this home being ideal for a small group travelling travelling for a conference or other event that would like a home away from home. It's perfect. Thank you owners!
