This cabin may appear rustic on the outside but don't let that fool you! This cabin was built in 1915, however the interior was remodeled in 2005 with beautifully finished 1 x 12 plank knotty pine floors, walls, and ceilings. Some of the existing beautifully finished cedar paneled walls still remain in the living room. This Totem cabin sleeps up to 6 persons comfortably. There is a master bedroom with custom queen log bed, 3/4 bath with over-sized shower (no tub), full size fully stocked kitchen with stainless fridge plus stainless gas range, large open floor plan, custom knotty pine breakfast bar & bar stools for seating up to 7, plus a table and seating for 3 in the kitchen nook, with a beautifully crafted stone fireplace and wood stove, plus two futons in the roomy living room with space to convert into two full size beds. Several skylights and open floor plan make this cabin light, open and airy! Semi-secluded in beautiful timber, with a tranquil stream bubbling through the front of the property, a flat parcel on almost an acre with an additional second cabin at the rear of the property. The cabin exterior comes with covered parking space, gazebo with propane BBQ, deck chairs, marshmellow roasting pit, oversized picnic table, and hiking trails through the property with two small bridges over the small streams. The Totem is located on a quiet dead end road, but this property fronts highway 706 so has easy access, and only 1/2 mile from Mt Rainier National Park. This the main Nisqually gate to Longmire and Paradise that is open 365 days a year. So roads are kept accessible year round.
If more room is needed, we have additional cabins available that can be rented with this one at a discount. We have three others: the Tahoma studio sleeps 2 and located on same parcel of land, Elk Cottage sleeps up to 7 and is the adjacent property to the south, plus the Cornerstone sleeps up to 8 and is across the road. Please see at these dot coms: steppingstonecabins or thecornerstonecabin or elkcottage for additional info. This website blocks our emails and websites. We love this area! It is our playground for hiking, snowshoeing, backpacking, sledding, fishing, photography, wildlife viewing, etc.
Rick or Theresa Cooper purchased this cabin in 2010
Mt Rainier National Park is a beautiful any season park to enjoy, and this cabin is just .5 miles from the entrance. It is also within walking distance of our other cabin, The Cornerstone cabin, so that we can use all three units for our family reunions or other large gatherings, and recommend that to others as well.
We absolutely enjoy sitting in the gazebo under the beautiful timber, next to the tranquil stream burbling through the yard, watching the deer meander through for their morning and evening drinks. We love the stone fireplaces, they are absolutely beautiful! So cozy to curl up in front of the fire on snowy or rainy days after a good hike in the park! The Totem cabin is our favorite for our own large groups with children as it has a wonderful open floor plan with lots of room for children to play.
We had 3 cozy days in this cabin. We had hoped to do lots of hiking, but it rained and was chilly for 3 days straight. The phots are very accurate. I need to emphasize the lack of connection to the world here. Not only is there no wifi, we had no network connection on our phones to even make a call and there was no TV reception. There were about 100 old movies to keep us company, but the total lack of any connection was not what I expected. The cabin is close to the main road and the small town and the Nepali restaurant had a great wifi connection (highly recommended!!) I wish town had better grocery stores or we would have cooked more. The kitchen was well equipped and the futons and beds were warm and comfy. The queen bed even had an electric mattress pad. Great place to truly get away from the world.
You can't beat this location for access to Mt. Rainier Park. The Tahoma cabin is very well equipped, clean, and roomy. It is somewhat dark, but that is to be expected given its location among the trees and is not a problem if you are out and enjoying the beautiful park during the day. The only hitch was that we couldn't operate the shower the first day (hint: pull hard!), but Rick was quick in responding and we had no further problems. We definitely recommend this listing to others and wouldn't hesitate to rebook in the future.
My family and I stayed at your Totem cabin this time last week. I just wanted to let you know what a wonderful time we had staying there. It was PERFECT!!! Just the right size, cozy and inviting for our family of 4. You have done a terrific job of providing every essential possibly needed from things for little ones on up to adults. Outside was full of beautiful surprises such as two wooden foot bridges over a creek, small trails, firepit, picnic table and chairs and darts under the carport. The location and proximity to Mt. Rainier National Park was excellent. And I can't forget that bed!!! I think it was quite possibly the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on. We would gladly stay here again. You have a wonderful little slice of heaven there. Thank you so much for sharing it with us!!
Overall it was a nice stay. The area doesn't have any reception nor wifi (except at restaurants) so it was nice to take a break from technology. Cabin itself was very cozy. Communication with Theresa was great. I couldn't figure out how to work the fireplace and had no reception to reach her. So I made a call from a phone at a restaurant and left a message. She sent the housekeeper over the following day to show us how to work it.
One improvement for the cabin would be getting rid of the rusty smell/taste from the water. When you shower, you can totally smell the rust. Granted, drinking water was provided in the fridge, but if the piping could be replaced (I know, it's probably very expensive), it'd be awesome!
The cabin was well maintained and had everything except wifi that a family could ever need for a weekend getaway. The bedroom was very cozy and the covers were quite comfortable. The fireplace was great and the owner gave my husband a quick lesson on keeping the fire going and helped us bring in dry wood. We had a great time and would definately be going back to this cabin in the future.
Cabin was properly maintained, owner was helpful, nearby attractions were Mt Rainier is nearby to go walk around the Paradise area of Mt Rainier. Restaurants nearby. I almost don't want to say how cute it was so it won't get too popular! So I can keep it for myself....:-)
Located 1/2 mile from Mt Rainier National Park with hiking trails, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, sledding, water falls, lakes and streams to photograph and enjoy!
