About Mary Kay Anderson

My husband and I started coming to the Outer Banks in 1973. I fell in love with this area and I have vacationed here every year except one since that time. We purchased our house in 2005. One of my main requirements in finding a home was to be able to have a view of the ocean. When I go up to our great room and look out the windows or sit on the deck and look East and can see the ocean, I am filled with happiness and peace. Our house is not big and flashy, but it is a very comfortable home. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

Wonderful family beach vacation home

  • 5 of 5

Listing accurate, clean, well maintained, well stocked, would definitely recommend.

Our group of 4 adults and 6 children (2-12) spent a week at Watavu. This was our first trip to the Outer Banks. Loved having an outdoor shower to get all the sand off before entering the house. Walking to the beach saved our vehicles from sand too. Although for some this might be a far walk. The blocks are long. It is about 1/3 mile to the beginning of the boardwalk. There is an slight uphill on the return trip.

Appreciated having such a well stocked kitchen of pots, pans, utensils, foil, storage containers, spices and so on! Great for us because we cook. We did not eat out at all so no restaurants to recommend but we bought local seafood each night from one of three markets. Billy's Seafood, Carawan and Dockside n Duck.

We used the hot tub more than I expected since it was summer but the location in the shade makes it enjoyable.

We mostly went to the beach but did make trips to the NC Aquarium, The NPS Wright Brothers Museum, Jockey Ridge and the NPS Lost Colony. Recommend all of them. Especially Jockey Ridge because it is not something you will find just anywhere. Very unique.

There is lots more we want to do in the area and I am sure will return.

I would not recommend this house if you have difficulty with stairs. You enter on a "basement" level, the bedrooms are one level up and the living area another level up. We were fine getting exercise but it is something to be aware of.

Great rental, great location, great owner!

Charming Home, Centrally Located to Everything!

  • 5 of 5

This house is adorable and the location is perfect ... it's just a short walk to the beach but it's also set back a little for lots of privacy. You also have the option to drive and park at the beach access for the day if that's easier for your family. It's close to the town of Duck as well as to the shops and restaurants in Kitty Hawk ... centrally located to everything! We love going to Duck Donuts in the mornings for coffee (and, of course, donuts!) and taking a walk along the Duck Boardwalk.

As for the house itself, it is very clean, incredibly charming, and is well stocked with everything you could imagine. Lots of beach chairs, some boogie boards for the kids, hot tub, bikes (there is a bike path that parallels the main road), deck furniture for outside eating, plenty of Kitchen plates/utensils/bowls. We can't get over the gorgeous view from the top deck! Looking forward to our next visit this summer!
