Condo was great, easy access to slopes and enjoyed pool and hot tub. It was a relaxing weekend, and we were lucky to have some fresh snow so skiing was great.
Thanks for dropping by again.
Wonderful overall experience.
Iron Horse Stay
We enjoyed our stay. Comfortable clean quarters, swimming pool a plus,, helpful ski shop, and on the short Green line to the base with a new weekend 'bistro' in the building. Hope that continues, as it was great to entertain friends at a happy hour.
All employees were friendly, we liked the security codes and would recommend this property.
A very nice option for up to 4 people wanting to ski at Winter Park
We loved our stay here. The condo is small, but has a hideaway bed and a pull out couch bed that can easily sleep 4 people. We came out for a weekend ski trip to Winter Park, and it was perfect for that (we pretty much just used it as a place to sleep). There is a nice kitchen as well, so you could easily do some cooking there. It was a ski in - ski out location where you just take the elevator to the top floor and you can ski right out onto a trail that takes you to the lifts. At the end of the day, you just follow a run down the mountain and end up right where you started. There is a pool and hot tub outside which is nice, but it is only open until 10:00 PM (which seemed a little weird, would have been nice to stay out there another hour or 2). The check in time we were given was 4:00 PM which was pretty inconvenient since we wanted to ski that morning. Luckily we called the location on the drive up and they were ok with an early check in. I would highly recommend this for anyone up for skiing and exploring Winter Park.
Thanks. We enjoy our little place in the mountains.
Not for me, but maybe for others
This condo may, or may not be right for you. It wasn’t for my family.
I want to start off with the positives. The owner has provided great WiFi and tries to take care of your concerns. The game room is a great place to gather with others in your party to visit and let the kids play.
Now for the things that just weren’t right for my family:
1) About two-three weeks before our stay, the owner informed us that there is no cleaning service during the stay. If we wanted it, we could pay a separate fee. I was ok without the cleaning service. What I wasn’t aware of, is that there is no where to exchange dirty towels for clean ones. You are responsible for washing and drying your own towels in the laundry area on the 2nd floor. Unfortunately for me, none of the four dryers were working after I washed my towels. This leads me to...
2) This condo is not managed at all by The Iron Horse. If you have any type of problem you need to contact the owner who will redirect you to the property management company. Who may or may not pick up their phone (you can leave a message and be asked to allow 48 hrs for a response- that could be your whole stay). After receiving a breakdown email from me, the owner did contact me and tried to help with my towel/laundry problem. The Iron Horse doesn’t no manage the washers and dryers. The had to call a separate company to come out and service the dryers. It’s hard to get a hold of just the right person to help with your specific problem.
3) This condo is not an easy ski in/ ski out. It was easier for me to take the shuttle into the resort base with my son. You have to get up a lot of speed to ski out, and he was not comfortable doing this yet. To ski in, you need to be at an intermediate level.
Overall, I felt like I spent the first true day of my vacation on laundry. After we came up with a plan to deal with the towels, the stay got better. I would not stay here again, but I could see how it would be fine for others.
Thank you for your comments. I am sorry that you had difficulty with some aspects of the Iron Horse. Since this is a condominium complex, the front desk is not staffed, but there is a phone number posted to call for assistance. Our HOA has limited services for the property manager to contain fees and lower our operating costs. Therefore owners who rent manage their unit directly. My phone number is always answered and my assistance provided.
The La Collina Italian restaurant at the Iron Horse is located on the lobby floor next to the pool.
