About the property

Central Lake Location:Scenic Lake Como 2 bedroom Home in Historic Old Town

The village of Plesio sits high above the beautiful waters of Lake Como in the Italian Alps. It is easy to understand why it is called the Pearl between the mountains and the lake:The hamlets that make up the territory still hold the old traditions; none more than Ligomena, where you find Casa Belinda, situated in the Historic Old Town area, on the side of Mount Grona, 1600 feet above Lake Como.

Casa Belinda shares the life of the Old Town, but has all the modern conveniences...Internet, Satelite TV, garage and a view of the lake.

Here the modern meets the ancient, in small walkways leading back to the house, each building retaining the grace and beauty of the old building materials, slate and stone architecture dating to the 1300s, still retaining the cobblestone pathways and staircases of a small Italian village; houses set comfortably close together, yet each passageway revealing beautiful glimpses of the lake below and the mountains above.

From here you can wander the mountains to find historical churches or challenges on Mount Grona, or drive the 10 minutes down to Menaggio on the Lake, or on to Como, the city at the end of the main arm of the 2 pronged lake, 40 minutes by car. Beautiful Bellagio is a short ferry ride away across the water, and everywhere you look is scenery that has bedazzled tourists and travelers for centuries. Lake Como and its surrounding mountains has been the top destination for Europe’s elite for hundreds of years and now it can be yours too.

In Menaggio there is a wonderful Swim club, cafes and dining, the famous promenade, resplendent in flowers and palm trees, shopping and markets, and a fine golf is available in Croce, minutes up the mountain towards Lake Lugano. The house is positioned for easy access to all these things, as well as hiking, mountain climbing, biking and trips around the Lake and into Switzerland. The major “Interstate” highway is minutes away.

A day on Lake Como by excursion boat is one of the highlights of your vacation!

The accommodations at Casa Belinda are sure to please. The house is set midway down a cobbled pathway close by the village church. Here you find a comfortable fully equipped modern kitchen with stove, microwave, refrigerator, sink and appliances nestled close to a wood burning fireplace, with seating for 6 to 8 at the long kitchen table with its corner sitting bench. Bring your laptop for easy dial-up connection from the house or DSL just down the hill. There is conventional heat available throughout the home, and in the master bedroom with its queen bed and ample closets. The bathroom features a shower, toilet, bidet and sink with cabinets. Your linens and towels are supplied, and there is a washing machine/drier conveniently located in a separate room below the entrance patio. The loft area is accessed by floating stairs where two comfortable chairs can be converted to twin beds.

From here you can step up to the second floor balcony which overlooks the Lake and the town of Bellano on the far shore. The view is wonderful, night and day, with ever changing clouds and patterns of shadows playing over the mountains and the tiled roofs of the houses nearby. The house comfortably accommodates 4 people, parents with children or two couples. Everything you need is here to make your stay memorable and convenient. There is even a private garage for your car, just steps from the church. The town boasts the Chiarella Mineral Water factory, so you know the water is sweet and pure.

From this location, with its summer breezes and mountain air, you can easily reach Lugano in ½ hours drive, San Moritz in an hour, Milan in about an hour and a half, and tour among the quaint and lovely towns that line the lake north and south of you. Hike in the mountains, lounge in the beautiful piazzas of Menaggio, or take the ferry down the lake, stopping at villages along the way..

A place where you can stroll amid palm trees and blooming rhododendrons while admiring snow-capped mountains has got to be magical, right? Blessed with a superb microclimate, Lake Como in Northern Italy is the kind of place that leaves you searching for fancy words to capture its exquisiteness—but a simple “bellisima” (beautiful) is a start. Get on the water by hiring a vintage Riva speedboat to take you on a tour of the lake’s villas and villages.

great little hideaway

  • 5 of 5

Perfect get away from it all location, near to Lake Como. Property was very clean and well equipped. Roof terrace was perfect for breakfast and supper overlooking the amazing lake! Owner provided excellent communication and was very friendly. We went on a boat to Bellagio, and did various day trips but our favourite thing was jumping into the Lake and finding the best beaches to explore. The local shop sold amazing fresh pasta and great ice creams! Would recommend and love to return one day....

a pretty and unusual house in a hillside village

  • 4 of 5

This is a pretty and unusual little house in a hillside village (Ligomena) that feels a million miles from the tourist towns on the lake below. It was clean, refurbished to a high standard and well equipped, with great views from the roof top terrace.

The second bedroom on the first floor is quite small (much of it with a low roof), and if you are using this as a bedroom then there is no separate living room. But this was fine for us with two young children (4 and 8).

The village of Ligomena is set high on the hill above the lake, with the house accessed via a tiny footway. This only adds to the character of the property, but does mean it can be a bit of a challenge to get to. The drive from the lake has many many hairpins and we found the turnoff towards Plesio was very easy to miss. There is a very small garage a few minutes walk away, but we found it much easier to park in the bigger car park lower down in the village near the Samavar hotel. This was only a little further to walk than the garage, if you cut through the village, but saved a load of hassle trying to squeeze into the garage (we had a Citroën C3).

Owner's Response: We were very happy to have you as guests in our home overlooking the Lake. The view of Lake Como is truly magnificent! Our aim is to provide the best experience for your vacation, providing a secure garage for a small or medium car as well as a cozy effort- free accommodation . We promote that the house is located in the Old Town that dates back to the 15th century. It provides a different view of the area, and allows you to enjoy the quiet and privacy of a great getaway from the tourist areas, but is also a quick access to the Lake and the village of Menaggio a short distance away. It is the best of both worlds!

Wonderful stay for our family

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay in this home. Perfect for our family! The house was spacious, fully stocked with clean sheets, towels, kitchen items, deck chairs, etc. We especially loved having the extra beds and bathroom in the taverna downstairs available for our use as there were eight of us traveling. It is situated in a charming village with a great view of Lake Como. Easy walk down the hill for gelato, drinks, and a playground not much further away our kids enjoyed. We enjoyed the rooftop deck, exploring the alleyways, and being away from the hustle and bustle. It met our needs perfectly!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for christening our addition of the "taverna" into our rental! The small suite compliments the main living quarters, giving privacy for that second couple with sleeping quarters and a small kitchen and bath! Your family was the perfect group to try it out. Our best wishes and thanks for your feedback.

This was a real gem. The property was as described, and the view from the terrace was superb. We spent just over a week relaxing and soaking up the Italian culture.

We loved exploring the lake, especially by ferry, and a trip in a speed boat. The villas alongside the lake are so beautiful, and the town of Menaggio was delightful.

Hidden Gem!

  • 5 of 5

My partner and I loved this property! It really is a hidden gem tucked away in the mountain above Menaggio! Perfect, idyllic location - far away enough from the traffic to be peaceful and relaxing, but close enough to all of the action! Stunning views of the lake! The apartment itself was perfect - no complaints whatsoever! It was neat, clean and well furnished, in addition to being spacious! I would definitely recommend this property! Belinda was also fabulous! Thank you for making our holiday at Lake Como so wonderful!
