About the property

4 BR 1 BA--Rental Office open Year-Round

This cozy cottage is in the village of Huron, Ohio in Old Homestead Beach II, a small, quiet area of year-round homes and summer cottages. Features include a huge sandy beach (rated among the best private beaches on the north coast) for sunning and lake swimming in the summer. From the cottage this beach is just a 5 minute walk through the lovely, safe neighborhood. The cottage has 4 bedrooms, 2 with a double bed each, and 2 with two twin beds. There is a large living room/dining area, fully equipped kitchen, 1 bathroom, and a spacious enclosed year-round porch. There is a washer and dryer for renters' convenience. Free WI-FI

Amenities: Fully equipped kitchen with refrigerator and flat-top stove. Also microwave, disposal, coffee maker, toaster, can opener, all dishes, silverware, cookware, blender, eating bar for 2, iron & ironing board, heat/central air,2 flatscreen TVs - one w/DVD player. Patio in back yard with picnic table and gas grill plus beach chairs, toys, rafts, and other equipment in storage shed beside patio.

Activities: Within the Old Homestead area there is a tree shaded park with picnic tables and grills, a children's playground, basketball and tennis courts, softball diamond plus the wonderful, sandy beach with lake swimming. Within walking distance there are grocery, drug, hardware store and several good restaurants including Berardi's Family Restaurant and Marconi's (fine Italian dining). Fishing is great (perch, bass, walleye) and the Huron Pier and Lighthouse can be seen from the Old Homestead beach.

Area: Huron & surrounding area: 5-10 minutes--access to the Huron fishing pier, major golf courses including Sawmill Creek and Thunderbird Hills, a fine library, banks, post office, grocery stores, well maintained & affordable laundromat, and other stores. There is also a community theater and one connected to the local branch of Bowling Green State University. Both offer high quality productions.

Hiking: We love hiking in Old Woman Creek park which is 5 minutes east of Huron.

Extras: An amphitheater at the downtown Huron dock area has entertainment all summer.

Sandusky: 10 minute drive to large mall, book stores, gift shops, many restaurants, Kalahari (a huge indoor waterpark and gameroom), and Cedar Point which is about 20 minutes. For another fun day try Goofy Golf- which also has bumper boats, racing cars and an arcade..

Vermillion: 15 minute drive to quaint shopping area.

Catawba & Marblehead: 25 minute drive to boat charters and ferry docks with hourly boats to Put-In-Bay and Kelly's Island.

Cleveland is 1 hr. drive to multiple activities including Jacobs field, Browns stadium, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, outstanding museums and orchestra, and a wonderful zoo, worth a whole day trip in itself!

Many of our guests return year after year. We are glad that others are able to enjoy the cottage as much as we have over the years. Hopefully your next vacation will be at the Tindale Cottage!!

Had everything we needed from family dinners to the beach.

  • 5 of 5

Able to hold big families coming and going. Close to the private beach, with all the necessities...

Loved the sun room for large family dinners...Plenty supplies. Next year we won"t pack our Prius to the gills. So much is here!

Owner's Response: Hi Kathleen, Thank you so much for your review. We love it when first time renters want to return. Thanks for taking good care of our cottage. We are very glad you enjoyed your time there and at the beach. We think its the best beach around and our grandkids love it! We have a lot of memories of big family dinners there too. I will keep in touch about next year. Thanks Joan

Old needs attention and cleaning

  • 1 of 5

Old worn out furniture and not very well maintained or cleaned. Over priced

Owner's Response: I was very disappointed to see this review. Most of our renters return year after year and we had only the highest ratings before this. The cottage comment log is full of glowing comments. I believe the pictures and description online accurately describe the cottage . It is our family cottage and was built in 1953. It does have a knotty pine interior. We try to assure that it is very well equipped and cared for. We love it and always hope our renters do too.

Perfect family friendly cottage

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is thoughtfully equipped and great for families. The beach is wonderful and only a short walk from the property. The wonderful owner has put a lot of thought into setting-up the house and extras like the gas grill, beach goodies, and even a cooler. The cottage itself has a snug, but well equipped kitchen. There are plenty of extra clean sheets, towels, pillows for the bath and bedrooms. The décor is knotty pine and beach cottage appropriate. The neighborhood is quiet and welcoming.

The Huron area was great and close enough to Sandusky to be convenient. The local IGA makes the drive to Meijer in Sandusky unnecessary and the Rainbow Chinese restaurant is a gem. Also, don't miss Jim's Pizza Box; unusual name, but good pizza. I would pass on the two sit down restaurants in the neighborhood.

Don't let the lack of a lot of recent reviews scare you away if you are interested. Lots of the weeks are "owned" by returning renters some dating back a generation or more. My family has already booked next year!

Relaxing Week

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying in this cottage - it's very comfortable and convenient, and the kitchen is well-supplied. A washer and dryer were recently added to the cottage. We enjoyed the front porch, the neighborhood is delightful, the beach is a short walk away. The owners put together a helpful binder of area activities and restaurants. There are free concerts at an outdoor pavilion in Huron every Saturday nt, just down from the "5 O'Clock Somewhere" restaurant - where they offer an inexpensive special each evening. We rented a motorcycle from the Harley Shop in Sandusky for a couple days - a fun way to see the area. Overall a wonderfully relaxing week!

Owner's Response: Wow! We keep getting encouraging comments about Tindale Cottage And our renters do everything they can to keep it in good shape and comfortable for future renters. Adding a washer and dryer this year is turning out to be a wonderful decision both for everyone to use while there AND by our renters helping me with the linens and bedding we provide for them. Thank you and we sure hope we see you again soon!
