Home away from Home in Northern Lower Michigan

  • 5 of 5

This pet friendly cottage in Copemish, MI is absolutely wonderful. It is very clean and has all the comforts of home. The owners and renters clearly take great care of the home and surrounding acreage. The dog run area is great, and the ability to explore around the rest of acreage is fun and relaxing. We will always remember this place, and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone. We have stayed in many up north sites, but this is by far, the cleanest. It is nice to be able to get away up North and have fun in the outdoors, but it is also nice to be able to relax in a clean comfortable environment at the end of the day.

Disappointing trip

  • 2 of 5

The property included everything listed in the ad, towels, linens, stocked kitchen, which was nice. However, there was an overwhelming smell of dog odor right when you walk in. I live with a dog and three cats, so I understand some pet odor but this property was pretty bad. They have a lot of carpet, which should just be removed considering it is pet-friendly.

My biggest complaint is the fact that we went with no running water for 2 nights and no electricity for 1 night. We stayed a total of 3 nights. The first night, the power went out at 8pm, soon after we arrived. There was no storm or anything, it just went out. It didn't come back on until late in the night. I understand it's not their fault, but it was odd that the power was out in the neighborhood and a back-up generator would have been nice. The second night, after returning from hiking all day, the water was not working. Therefore we could not shower for the second night in a row. We called the next morning and they sent someone out right away, but it was still a huge inconvience. We would not have been as disappointed if they provided some sort of compensation for our troubles, but they didn't.

I wouldn't recommend this to a friend because it is overpriced considering the dog odor and I was not satisfied with the customer service.

Great stay

  • 5 of 5

Great location between sleeping bear sand dunes and traverse city. The house was very cleaned and our dogs had lots of space to run. Overall a great place to stay!

Getting away

  • 4 of 5

There is always a little apprehension that comes with trying out something new. After our last minute reservation request we recieved an email and confirmation right away along with contact information. When we arrived at George's Retreat there was a friendly note welcoming us. Dusty Myer has taken such care to make his guests feel welcome and comfortable; the place was so clean, and stocked with nice dishes, cookware, and wine glasses which I was happy to see. The linen was well stocked the bed was clean and comfortable. When we arrived it was a bit chilly so the gas fireplace/stove was a welcome sight but we could not figure out how to light in and even on a Sunday evening Dusty answered his phone to give us step-by-step help in getting it toasty warm in this cozy cabin. We enjoyed satelite TV, a wonderful deck and best of all the sauna. We will be back! Thank you so much for such hospitality.

Thoroughly Impressed

  • 5 of 5

We weren't really sure what we were going to find as sometimes the pictures on the Internet can be deceiving but when we walked in, we were blown away! The cottage was extremely clean, smelled fresh, and looked great! The kitchen had every small appliance that was needed, full sets of dishes, glasses, pans, and silverware. These were not "garage sale finds" like we've found in other places we've stayed; these were extremely nice matching sets! There was even dish soap, laundry soap, hand soap, napkins and paper towels for our use. The sheets on the bed were of nice quality and the bed was very comfortable. The wifi worked well as did the tv cable system. We were pleasantly surprised at how fresh and clean it was since they accept dogs. There was no odor or tell tale signs of any animals ever being in there.

The only problem that we had was probably because we had never used a keyless entry system before. We didn't have a problem getting in but when we were owing to leave the next day to visit some friends, we couldn't get the door to lock. So maybe in the instructions for entry, there should be instructions for locking. We finally figured it out but instructions would've been helpful.
