Our family has priceless memories in this house. We slow down, watch the stars, and enjoy the company of one another. We eat well, sleep well, and get rejuvenated through our long walks together.
The view is hard to get away from, we often found ourselves watching the view change like it was alive. Our group consisted of my husband and myself, plus our two sons and their wives. There was plenty of space for everyone, including the separate living area on the lower level. This was our 4th trip to Estes Park and by far the best view and home layout we've had.
Our only complaints:
1. The Master didn't have a king sized bed, even though there's plenty of room for one. The others complained about the bed comfort in the lower level but agreed it was a small item considering most everything in the home was fabulous. But getting a good night's sleep for all of us would've been nice.
2. The Master bedroom TV didn't work all week. Someone came to change out the boxes (not sure why) but it didn't work before or after that change. I didn't call back because we weren't going to be around much during the day to wait for someone and we were so exhausted every day, watching TV in bed wasn't a big deal.
3. The upstairs fireplace kept going out and following the instructions in the binder didn't help. The first day someone came and started the pilot but with the winds howling, it blew out later in the trip and wouldn't ignite.
4. The lower level fireplace had no parts, so that was disappointing since we saw the picture and expected it to work for a cozy environment on that level.
5. Last but not least, why is there an office sized waste basket for the kitchen rather than a full sized trash receptacle? Even with only 6 people, it filled daily and became quite a pain to deal with. We also had to ask for trash bags, none were provided.
Fair warning: It's a VERY steep drive with multiple switchbacks and only the first half is paved. This leads to a great view with only one house higher than this on the mountain, but if you're a nervous or inexperienced driver, please beware and be careful. Luckily the snow we had was only 1" and melted quickly or it could've been pretty tricky.
Tips: It's a bit of a drive into town, but definitely get pizza at Antonio's. Small place that does mostly carryout, but so delicious it's worth the wait. We also had a delicious and cozy dinner at the 1929 Tavern at Mary's Lake Lodge. However, they only have one table that accommodates a party greater than 4 people, and even though it was a Sunday night during off-season, a reservation would've avoided a 90-min wait.
A group of eight fifty-somethings came for a hiking/general outdoor vacation and made MV our basecamp for the week. We had a blast in Estes Park. Tons of hiking, day trips to Hot Sulphur Springs and Fort Collins (breweries), ATV'ing, wildlife watching, etc. This house was perfect for us. It is close enough to town and RMNP that you can be in town in 5 minutes and in the park in 15 minutes. One bedroom is upstairs, and three bedrooms are downstairs, and one of the downstairs bedrooms has its own kitchen, so if folks keep different hours, no problem. The main dining table seats 8, and we enjoyed playing hard all day and then coming home and cooking dinner at the house. Kitchen is very well equipped. Good wireless connection if you need to get some work done or just want to post all of your hiking photos. The view from the living room and deck really can't be captured in the photos here. It's fantastic to get up in the morning and see the glow on the mountains. I would highly recommend this house to groups of adults or to big families that need a good home base. Finally, Range Properties (the property manager) was great to deal with. We accidentally left a camera battery behind, and they sent someone out to get it and sent it back to us.
Home has great views of the Estes Park valley and surrounding mountains. Very pretty stuff to wake up to, enjoy a cup of java and get ready for the day. Very relaxing in the evening as well, assuming that a beautiful view of the mountains and sunrise/sunset is part of your enjoyable experience. The home has four good sized bedrooms, although one room has only twin beds. The only negative aspect we experienced was minor....the blender didn't function and the outdoor grill is fairly small and there wasn't any gas in the tank. Prevailing winds also makes grilling a challenge. The home was clean, well maintained, and the photos accurately represent the magnificent views. Estes Park (the city) has some wonderful restaurants and taverns for adult enjoyment, and we saw many horseback riders while enjoying our day hikes. The Warming House is an incredible resource for information about hiking, as well as for equipment rentals and purchases.
We didn't know what to expect when we got to Estes because this was our first time in Colorado. The directions given were easy to follow and we drove right to the entrance of the neighborhood. The winding drive to the home was fun and cracked us up every time we drove it. When we first walked into the house all we could say was Oh My!!!! The view from the floor to ceiling windows was breath taking. Our kids were often found just standing in front of them looking at the mountains. The open concept living area was wonderful for our family to stay connected. We used the gas grill and cooked several meals in the well stocked kitchen. The house had more than enough room for our family and we loved the layout of the rest of the home. We did take time to hike the area also. We saw deer and a coyote near the house. The home was so close to everything our family wanted to do but still felt like we were very secluded. We would love to come back and stay again. Thank you for sharing your home with us.
