Susan Patton purchased this bungalow in 2010
The Tennessee River Gorge has always been our dream since it has everything. Mountains, water fun and gorgeous views.
The quietness and serenity of being close to the water are amazing. Going down our road you can see a few goats, wild turkeys, many deer, and chickens. The drive goes through a beautiful Prentice Cooper wildlife management area and is wonderful forest.
We've stayed here before..and loved it! We always feel so relaxed and welcome.Such a great cozy place to unwind and have fun.The hosts are amazing and never disappoint! It us very clean and comfortable... the owners see to your every need.We relaxed on the water...had picnics outside, and enjoyed campfires. This is going to be an every year thing! Definately 5 stars for us!!
This was a surprise trip for an early Mother's Day and we absolutely had a blast. If you love the outdoors this is the place to be. Beautiful scenery great breakfast couldn't have asked for better hospitality from Susan and Jerry. We will definitely be coming back.
My wife and I wanted to get away to celebrate Valentines day--well, we missed the real date by a week, but it was worth the wait! We highly recommend this unique place. We are pretty well seasoned B&B'ers--we've pretty much seen it all--and this spot is right up there with the best! Even the ride out the river road is a memorable slice of southern Americana. There's literally no telling what you may see--and if you're a city dweller, I guarantee things will take you by surprise. Among them in our case were the huge doe foraging near the road back to town, who, as if on cue, bounded across the pavement in front of us and back into the woods, almost flying over the underbrush as if weightless. I'm certain it was the same doe that we saw at the same place for two days in a row. Then there was the barn owl with a wingspan of over 3 feet who glided in front of us to land on a low branch in a still naked tree, turning his head around to examine us with his huge haunting eyes. You have to find your way out of town a bit to encounter sights like that.
The room was immaculate, and Susan's breakfasts were wonderful. Personally, I think she could go to the English countryside and give the local Brits scone making lessons--- ;-), among other things! Her scratch biscuits are another classic bit of southern Americana. If you're not from the south, hers are perfect examples of what a biscuit should look, feel, smell, and taste like. Shoot--everything she made was out of this world!
Look--we came in mid February when it was freezing outside and there wasn't a leaf on a tree or a flower to be found--but it was still fantastic. We can't wait to come back when it's warmer so that we can go out on the river with Jerry. We could have probably gone out on this visit, if we had asked, but we didn't pack for the first cousin of an Alaska cruise---- ;-) All in all, if you want a quiet, laid-back escape from the "real world," we give this place 5 stars and all four thumbs up!
My husband and I luckily found this incredible place to stay and met two great people, Susan and Jerry. The dock extending into the Tennessee River was quiet, with breathtaking views, the breakfast Susan brought each morning was delicious, the room was immaculate, and the whole ambiance was peaceful and relaxing. We will definitely stay here again when in Chattanooga. You will not find anything better in your stay in Chattanooga. This is the best!
My family stayed at the loft for a full week and we had a blast. Susan and Jerry are so sweet and the breakfast was wonderful. Something different each day. It was quite and we enjoyed our stay.
The 11miles back always got interesting but was fun!!
Thank you again for a wonderful stay!! If we ever venture back to Tenn., we will def look Susan and Jerry up!!
This place is awesome. A tad bit hard to find due to no sign at the driveway, but it's well worth the search. The serenity of this awesome place is unreal. Hidden away at the foothills of the smokey mountains and on the Tennessee river, this was just what my wife and myself needed. Mrs Susan was such a wonderful host, and you can set your watch with her perfect 8:00am timing with breakfast delivered to your door. The view of the river and mountains is just simply stunning. Canoeing, fishing, swimming or simply watching fireflies at night, this getaway spot offers it all. Regrettably, we were only able to stay for one night and two days, but man was it well worth it. This quick trip did exactly what it needed to do, and I don't believe we could've gotten the relaxation and quietness anywhere else but here. We will most definitely plan to stay with captain jerry and mrs Susan again, and for and extended period no doubt. Don't cheat yourself out of a very awesome, quiet, relaxing and romantic getaway by passing this place up. We are SO glad we found "the loft at river canyon".
My Husband and I have stayed with Susan and Jerry 2 times this year. March and May. They are the nicest people and do everything to make sure your stay is as good as can be. Jerry even helped us get the boat trailer parked. Having a home made breakfast of scones and breakfast biscuits delivered to your door right at 8 a.m. was wonderful! Susan is such a great cook.
The view of the river from the Mallard Room front port is just beautiful. We took our boat and enjoyed the River Gorge from Chattanooga to Lake Nickajack. You can tie up in Chattanooga and enjoy downtown and eat lunch.
If you are looking for a quiet getaway, this is a nice one. Be aware though that the drive in and out is about 30 - 40 minutes... narrow, hilly and not where you want to drive at night. There is a lot of wildlife on the roads and occasional farm animals! I recommend to plan your trips in and out so you don't have to drive it very often.
We highly recommend you considering the Loft At River Canyon!
