Restaurants, Museums, The marble quarry and the famous Crystal Mill.

Very close to REDSTONE AND CARBONDALE AND IN MARBLE. Hotchkiss, Peyonia and Delta are great day trip locations where a plethora of fresh veggies, fruits and WINE TASTING are available in the bread basket of Colorado. Here you can connect dot by dot, one peaceful, inspirational experience to another. When you depart after a relaxing visit, you will have a treasure trove of images, memories and serenity to accompany you.

Aspen wood ceilings, clear dug fir floors, plush furniture, a sprawling open kitchen with tons of counter space, classic decor, a deep cast iron tub and 21' cathedral ceilings were some of the reasons why this home was featured in The Aspen Sojourner magazine mid winter 2008 edition under 'In style, off the Grid.'

Every window projects it's astonishing natural beauty into the house weather you are in bed, on the couch reading your favorite book, in the rocking chair by the wood stove, or enjoying cooking or eating a meal.

This solar home puts you on the very threshold of access to pure mountain beauty and ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES FOR ADVENTURE.

Beaver dams and a thriving riparian habitat are so close you can see trout rise on the lake. Mist and fog rises from the waterfall and settles into the valley offering dynamic and constantly changing scenery.

13,000 foot mountains surround, offering 360' views of rugged alpine scenery. In floor radiant heat is a feature offering comfort in the cold of winter along with a wood burning stove. Perched on a promontory you can look down 1000 feet to the river, water fall and lake and up 4000 feet to surrounding peaks and cliffs.

Although all types of activities are always beckoning we find we don't want to leave the house as being home affords the opportunity to observe in comfort and luxury, after any number of mini-adventures. Hawks, falcons, elk, deer and fox are commonly seen from the house. Rainbows, dramatic thunder storms, blue bird sunny days from this vantage point are common. The view out every window is a masterpiece. The cabin is in a very sunny south facing location; offering ample sunlight in the winter, great fall color viewing in the fall.

Marble peak is one of the most popular back-country ski destination in Colorado. Do a visual check off the deck as it is a peak just south of the house, about 3 miles away.

Hikes to the Crystal mill (one of the most photographed spots in Colorado) near the old mining town of crystal takes you along the crystal river on the way to lead king basin or Crested Butte for wonderful wild flower viewing, or watch the aspen turn colors in the fall. Lizard lake is along this road as well.

REDSTONE AND CARBONDALE CLOSE.

Soak in Penny hot springs or Avalanche ranch hot springs. A perfect destination for families, romance, reunions, weddings and retreats. We are open year-round, and it's always spectacularly beautiful in Marble. There are magnificent views then there are magnificent views, this is the latter! We look forward to welcoming you to our enjoyable slice of alpine Paradise.

MULTIFAMILY ACCOMMODATION UPON REQUEST.

About anthony jerkunica

I built this house to be in the mountains, on a mountain and surrounded by mountains and for its proximity to cultural and artistic events, restaurants and conveniences. It is a place of healing and this has always been important to me.

I have a degree in literature. General contracting....building solar homes etc, has been my livelihood for many years.

Currently, I am a certified yoga instructor and have a studio called Coredination in Carbondale where we offer Pilates, Yoga, tap, modern dance. Ballet classes are offered through our ballet school Bonedale Ballet. Please contact us if you are interested in receiving Pilates or yoga classes or any other classes we offer. Rates and scheduling available upon request and we can arrange classes at the cabin.

Why anthony jerkunica chose Northwest Colorado

This house is in this special location because I was so inspired by the beauty that building it became an enjoyable passion. The location provides complete rejuvenation and inspires a deep connection to nature. This house is in a location where your mind can relax without distraction from the outside world. How rare in this day and age! Pick any mountain/alpine experience and it is here to refresh and invigorate you.

What makes this house unique

First and foremost, this house offers unparalleled views and is bathed in sun so it is a bright and cheery location. Secondly, you can access almost any outdoor mountain activity by walking. Ski Marble peak, the marble ski area, fish the Crystal river, dine at the Redstone Inn, visit the Marble quarry, view Colorado wild flowers, kayak the crystal river, rock climb, ice climb, hunt for elk, grouse or deer. Take Scofield pass to crested Butte via 4 wd, Ski Aspen, Highlands or Snowmass, Attend Carbondale mountain fair, Listen to the classical music or Jazz at Aspen music festival, Dine at any of the incredible restaurants in Carbondale.Horseback riding is available in Redstone.

Also, certain months out of the year a natural, free, public hot springs on the crystal river is available. Secondly, Avalanche hot springs (also 25 min. from the cabin) offers geothermal hot springs for 12.00 for adults. Open from 8 am- 6 pm daily, year round.

Food preparation in the spacious kitchen is a pleasure. A dip in the river, a ski, a hike or just lazing about will allow you to appreciate what this cabin has to offer. My wife and I are certified Pilates and yoga instructors ( a Pilates 'reformer' is at the Cabin). Inquiries are welcome for private classes and our class schedule @ our studio in Carbondale. A new Frisbee golf course has been established in a park in down town Marble.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful time at the cabin and enjoyed the beautiful views of the mountains. We hiked up the Crystal river and enjoyed seeing th foliage before all the leaves had fallen. This truely is a great place to come and unwind and experience the rocky mountains natural beauty. We certainly were lucky to have amazing weather as well. Hope to come again next year.!!

EXCEEDED ALL OUR POSSIBLE EXPECTATIONS.

Amazing, magical…not to mention, majestic!

My trip to and stay at The Cabin in the Sky with its remote location in Marble presented me with some unique challenges that I couldn't have dreamed up if I had tried, but my cat, Phoenix, and I would do it all again in a heartbeat! In addition to it's beauty both inside and out, the house has a healing, nurturing and very relaxing energy and everything from watching the light change throughout the day, to being enveloped in stars at night, is awe inspiring. Anthony is a very kind, generous person and made sure that I was comfortable throughout my stay. I loved it here in the winter, and can't wait to return in the summer/fall to see the colors! What a gift this place is! Can't say enough, but you really have to experience it to understand it! Because of the remote location I recommend bringing food/supplies for a couple of days, especially in winter (there is no cell service outside of Carbondale). The roads into Marble are well maintained, but the private road up to the house is long and steep so a 4WD with decent snow tires is mandatory!! Once there the house is so cozy you won't want to leave :)

Everything is stunning!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a wonderful long weekend at "The Cabin in the Sky." We had been referred by friends and their promises of "you're going to love it" were spot on. The home itself is really impressive. We were only a small group of 4 but rented the whole house for extra privacy and to snag the second bathroom on the lower level. The main house can sleep 4-6 comfortably, but the only bathroom is in the master bedroom so tricky for larger groups and people needing to make that overnight run to the potty through the master bedroom. It was all fine and we loved having the whole house to ourselves. The directions and instructions were clear but they need to be read carefully. Especially the driving instructions - which are accurate but you need to pay attention! Anthony is not joking about filling up with gas & provisions in Carbondale and being aware that there is no cell phone coverage after Carbondale. There is wi-fi at the house but it is weak and can't be relied on for any heavy duty use. It is important to know weather before heading out and to know what your options are for sight seeing and activities before you get to the house since internet is slim. We found the radio in the kitchen was helpful for weather reports. Highlights: The hummingbirds- we got lots of prize winning photos. Fishing - we caught several rainbow trout - a treat. Hiking - stunning views and vistas throughout the area. BBQ - @ Slow Groovin' BBQ - delicious. Hot Springs at Mile marker 55 in Redstone- yes -really hot and watch out for "The Nuddies". Crystal Mines by the jeep tour. Only way to go unless you want to die or ruin your 4 x 4 car. If you feel like a vigorous hike- great destination - go all the way to Crystal City. Tour of the Historic Marble Mill Site -interesting history. Coffee at The Hub-nice people. Soaking in the scenery from every window and the deck - especially the star filled night sky- breathtaking. ONLY complaint-stuffy bedrooms at night. Solar windows don't all open for that lovely cooling night breeze and master bedroom deck door doesn't have a screen. We were roasting. We also needed to re-stock drinking water and found a little store in the Redstone Village. That was the closest for water so bring plenty. Otherwise- wonderful, relaxing retreat and highly recommend. Simple luxury, clean and classy accommodations. Anthony was very gracious. We hope to return some day!

Fantastic house/an even better location

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely loved the location and the house; the view from the deck alone is worth renting the house. The house is very near the Carbonite Creek trail - an amazing day hike. Awakening to the view from the master bedroom was comparable to waking up in a campsite on a cliff - all you can think is "WOW!".

Marble is the old Colorado in a thousand different ways. It is quiet, beautiful, old fashioned. We loved the BBQ restaurant and proximity to Penny Hot Springs. Not sure if we'd hike to Crystal again - it's beautiful to be sure, but as hikers, we were a minority among the off-road vehicles. Marble is the anti-Aspen or anti-Dillon/Silverthorne.

Strongly recommended.

Note: don't use Google Maps to find the house - it sent us to the wrong part of Marble.

Amazing Property

  • 5 of 5

Anthony was quick to respond to my request and was extremely accommodating. We traveled with a 3 year old and let me assure you that there is more than enough for the 3 year old to do on the property.

The previous reviews say it all. If you are looking to get away from everything, this is the place to go. Marble only has 130 residents and at night, you see no more than 15 lights on below you from the houses in the valley. The Milky Way and millions of stars are above you. You get to wake up to deer and hummingbirds every morning. The inside amenities are "different" than you're used to as it's off the grid but you get used to it almost immediately. Be respectful of this beautiful property and it will treat you right.

We didn't want to leave the property as it's so relaxing but just minutes away are beautiful hiking trails, waterfalls, lakes, parks, and hot springs. Go to Penny Hot Springs right along the river on your way up to Carbondale. Such a cool experience and a real "hot spring." Redstone is a great little town. Nothing to do in Marble other than the BBQ place and a small little coffee shop but this is the reason you come here, to do nothing. Aspen is about an hour away. There is a grocery store in Carbondale or a new Whole Foods about 10 minutes east of Carbondale which was fantastic.

So many wonderful things to say about this property with nothing negative. When you book, make sure you follow the directions provided by Anthony and try to arrive in daylight. GPS will take you somewhere else and even in the daylight, we took a couple wrong turns when we arrived. I can't wait to return in the future. You won't be disappointed!
