Unplugged in Chincoteague

Bedrooms 3
Space 1,850 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

Unplugged is an immaculate three story house with fresh paint and hardwood floors in the majority of the house.

The house is regularly described by those who have stayed there as 'beautiful'.

We decided to open up our home to share the joy we’ve experienced in this wonderful town that was rated the number one beach town in America by AOL online. We hope you will be comfortable and happy here.

If you’re like us, you crave uninterrupted family time. The combination of work, kids activities, television and the internet consume hours we might otherwise spend connecting with the people who are the most important to us.

When you spend time at Unplugged, you can realize the vision of creating lifelong memories with family and friends.

The house has everything you need to create great memories and nothing you don’t; there is no television or wifi in the house.

You will find:

• boogie boards, beach chairs, sand toys, coolers, and beach umbrellas to enjoy your time at the beach.

• 1 tandem sit on top kayak (Feel Free Gemini), 2 paddles and 4 life jackets to enjoy the back bays, including paddling right up to the ponies.

• 4 bikes (3-26' and 1-24') with helmets and baskets and two Razor scooters to explore the town or to just pick up sticky buns in the morning at the bakery.

• crab box traps, crab basket, tongs, measurer and steamer pot to catch blue crabs and host a feast.

• surf rods and holders for surf fishing

• board games, puzzles and books for hours of family fun at home.

As you pull up to the house you'll notice the OVER 1 DOZEN ROSE BUSHES, clean tan siding, red metal roof and plantings surrounding the house.

Pull your car into the TWO CAR GARAGE which easily fits two cars and the driveway which will hold another two. The garage has a large workbench which is a great place for the kids (or grownups!) to do crafts on rainy days.

Around the corner of the garage is an OUTDOOR SHOWER. If you’ve never tried it, taking a shower outside with the bright sun shining on you, the birds chirping and a gentle breeze blowing is a complete joy…

One of our favorite things to do is to sit on the FRONT ENCLOSED PORCH in the morning, bare feet on the cool ceramic tile, and have our morning coffee while watching for both birds and the Chincoteague ducks who wander around town. There are guidebooks on the porch to help you identify any mystery visitors; there are hundreds of species of birds on Chincoteague and Assateague.

As you walk into the FAMILY ROOM you’ll find two cozy sofas and a comfy wicker chair as well as a gas fireplace for those cooler fall and winter visits. There are a number of books in the family room so you can learn about the history of the island, the wildlife, and the world famous Chincoteague ponies.

The cheerful yellow DINING ROOM is a perfect place to have family game night and special meals. The table seats ten comfortably and the china cabinet is stocked with board games, puzzles and books, as well as glassware. The three windows, dining room light and four wall sconces allow you to customize the lighting according to your mood.

The fresh bright white eat in KITCHEN is well equipped with good quality pots and pans, and all the dishes, flatware, and gadgets you will need. There is a blender for smoothies and margaritas and a griddle for pancakes. There is a coffee maker, toaster, toaster oven, crab mallets, etc. While there is no dishwasher, there is a full size washer and dryer in a closet in the kitchen. There are plenty of pans for making homemade apple pies or blueberry muffins, some of our favorite things to do. The trestle table in the kitchen has four chairs and one bench and seats six comfortably.

The downstairs BATHROOM features a tub with an adjustable showerhead, and a sink and toilet set below a mirrored wall with shelves and medicine cabinet.

The BLUE BEDROOM on the second floor features a king size bed and a wall of closets (luggage racks inside) offering ample storage space. There is a sink in the room and a shower and toilet in the attached bathroom which has a lovely stained glass window. This peaceful bedroom retreat has an air conditioner and ceiling fan so you can set the temperature exactly where you want it.

The ORANGE BEDROOM next door has a comfortable queen size bed, air conditioner and ceiling fan. Store your luggage on the luggage rack or hang your things in the closet. The bed is cozy with a down-alternative comforter and vibrant floral quilt.

The 3rd FLOOR has two queen beds and sleeps four comfortably. The superior quality carpeting feels soft and cushy underfoot, and the ceiling fan has a built in heater function for cooler nights. The 3rd floor is cooled with a Frigidare 8,000 BTU Window unit meaning guests have their own zone! Store your luggage on the luggage racks or hang your things in the closet.

The BACKYARD is small but very private. The yard consists of thick tall fescue grass (we sodded it in early 2011) and has a flat 20 x 14 area where you can have a campfire in the cast iron chiminea. Provided are 4 zero gravity chairs, 2 tables and 4 tiki torches for your enjoyment.

Unplugged is the ideal home base for an active family getaway in any season.

Please contact us if you'd like to see our picture album (80+ pictures) which showcases the house, Chincoteague Island and Assateague Island or if we can answer any additional questions.

About Susan

Greg and I met in college, have been married for twenty four years and are the parents of two wonderful daughters. We love the outdoors and have been on over 50 camping trips ranging from backpacking, canoe camping, snowshoeing to plain 'ol campground camping.

Susan purchased this house in 2010

Why Susan chose Chincoteague Island

From staying at a friends' house in Chincoteague, we came to realize it is the perfect family getaway. It's really hard to describe the town, other than to say to us it's perfect; it's charming, family friendly and you only need to be as busy as you want to be. We love the house because it's spacious and comfortable, close to town and has everything our family needs to really connect.

What makes this house unique

Unplugged is unique in that there are no distractions. Since our kids are only young once, we decided to try to spend our vacation time together without all the normal distractions. Now that they are older, we still use our time at Unplugged to reconnect with them. It has been wonderful.

We would love to see everyone take a break from all the rush and enjoy the peace and simplicity of being 'Unplugged in Chincoteague'.

Unplugged is a wonderful property on the beautiful island of Chincoteague. We spent Pony Penning Week there with our family of six adults and three children, ages ranging from 1 to 71 years old! We enjoyed the week in this wonderful house tremendously. The house has every amenity you need - bicycles, beach toys and chairs, crab pots and traps, and even a kayak - to make the most of your time outside. It also has plenty of games, puzzles, and comfy couches for napping and relaxing on Island time. The kitchen is easy to use and has every appliance we needed for fantastic family meals. (There's a wonderful produce place on Church Street, half a mile away, for fresh fruit and veggies. And His and Hers on Maddox sells live crabs and incredibly fresh seafood that satisfied even our incredible appetite for good seafood.)

Even without the famous ponies, there is plenty to do and see. We couldn't fit it all in. The property is within walking distance to Main Street for strolls in and out of all the cute shops. It's within short biking distance (a couple of miles) from Chincoteague Wildlife Refuge Center and Assateague Islands where there are lovely trails to walk, hike, and bike and beautiful, uncrowded beaches (compared to the Jersey shore) to spend your days swimming, sunbathing, and kite flying. Plus the wildlife is amazing.

My children, ages 7 and 10, had a wonderful time. They earned their junior park ranger badges and patches at the two National Park/Wildlife Refuge Centers, biked to their hearts' content, fished and crabbed for the first time (Jimmy at Captain Steve's Tackle Shop is super friendly and encouraging), and thoroughly enjoyed being unplugged.

The owners, Greg and Susan, couldn't have been more friendly or more accommodating. They answered our many questions and gave first rate recommendations. The house is in fantastic shape - just right for a week along the Eastern shore.

Beautiful home!

  • 5 of 5

We chose to take our vacation here during the shoulder season. The home is beautiful, well maintained, and very clean. It's obvious that the owners care about this home. Beds were very comfortable. It was so nice to arrive after a long drive to beds already made with nice, fresh linens! The home is just as described. We loved everything about this house - from the well stocked kitchen, games, books, to the tons of things in the garage. It was nice not having easy internet access and to just be "unplugged"; the few times we needed WiFi we visited the library (which is a treat in itself). Owners responded quickly and communication was excellent. We would definitely rent this home again! Already thinking about how I get back there in the fall. I hate to wait another year!

awesome vacation week at "unplugged"

  • 4 of 5

july 31-aug 6, 2011

my overall rating of this house would actually be ... very, very good.

the owners of this beautiful home (great communication, kind/considerate manner) along with all the extras (a garage full of fun, bikes, kayak, grill, arts/crafts, beach gear, etc. all contributed to a wonderful vacation. the house itself was so clean and kept...and felt like home immediately upon arriving.

absolutely did not miss the TV, internet, or even a dishwasher for the week.

would have liked a mirror/dresser in my bedroom upstairs but certainly made due for the week.

all-in-all, A+.

thank you greg and susan. already putting our thinking caps on for next year's vacay!

God bless,

jody k.
