A beautiful home that is spacious, comfortable, wonderfully located and family friendly. We knew this was the one within five minutes after seeing it!
Two living areas make it perfect for large or multiple families. It is very rare for a home in this area to contain a large, flat backyard and families and kids take advantage of it year after year! Two decks overlooking the ZigZag river are also a favorite.
We showed up a little late (dark out) and had a heck of a time finding this house. As we went thru the woods and over the bridge down some dark roads (did a little puddle-jumpin') and looked at ALL the houses with green roofs we finally found it back at the start of our journey-It was so easy to find once we found it. I would HIGHLY suggest that the house NUMBERS be painted WHITE or get one of the metal poles w/numbers like everyone else has. We parked (BEWARE that piece of dark parking wood on the ground-reflectors or reflecting paint-hint-hint.) We opened the front door and stepped into the CUTEST kitchen EVER! The house was HUGE! 2 fireplaces, comfy couches, loft and the biggest king size bed that I never wanted to get out of!! Playing some Marco-Polo to find each other we met back up in the kitchen said the road trip thru the woods was worth it and called dibbs on the bedrooms... Obviously 1C and I (2C) were in the Master Bedroom and friends C3 & D claimed the loft and the bedroom with the "on -suite" bathroom. I've never seen a blue tub or toilet before, but it worked-kind of reminds you of your Grandma's house-depending on your age. It was real windy the next night briefly lost power and I mean briefly long enough so when the TV clicked off we had a chance to say "OHHHhhh" then it clicked back on. The VIEW is INCREDIBLE! The DECK is INCREDIBLE -you can hear the river you can see the river -we loved it! The house is a bit older needs some TLC here and there but comfy, lived in.... Lots of dishes cooking utensils...pool table. The HOT Tub was awesome! Right outside the Master bedroom- Lots of beach towels provided -might want to build (owners) a small open pergola over the hot tub to keep your drinks pine needle free and prevent the branches from dripping on you but the sudden cold drops from the hanging branches kept you cool... the back deck needs a little re-enforcing here and there. We enjoyed the fires, girl talk, shopping at some antique (thrift) stores... and the FOOD at Zig-Zag Inn is GREAT! GO HUNGRY!!!! Leaving was so hard... trying to get the awesome fridge from the kitchen in my car was a struggle but it now looks great in mine! ;) Actually my SUV was stuffed full of our "treasure-hunting" purchases... It rained the whole time we were there -but we are from WA State so we were used to it. Would definitely recommend and come back! 3C's&D
My family of four plus my parents spent a week at Zig Zag River House and we loved it. The house was clean, well furnished and spacious enough that everyone had their own space with 6 people spanning 3 generations. The hot tub was a huge hit with everyone, even on the rainy afternoons. The sound of the river was wonderful. The teens and I had fun playing pool in the separate game room area next to the garage, and there was so much to do close by it was awesome! We hope we can make it back there some day soon!
This place was absolutely perfect! It is a very comfortable place to stay in a great location. It's rare to have an actual lawn for the dogs to play in this area too. We stayed for the 4th of July to get the dogs away from the Vancouver fireworks and it proved to be an excellent choice. It was quiet and private and it felt like home, but with a hot tub & river ;). Having 2 separate living areas was great too. They had everything you could need and more - even bug spray! I stayed almost a week, with my mom and our 2 dogs. We thought that would be plenty of time, but neither of us were ready to leave. The owners were very responsive and accommodating as well. I can't recommend the place enough! We are hoping to come back for 2016 and every year after that!
I planned a rafting trip in Maupin, OR and rented this home for the weekend as a mini vacation spot. The house was everything that I wanted and more. Even better was the excellent communication with Pete about the home from day 1. The house was great for five teens, my boyfriend and I. We loved that the home is pet friendly as our dogs are part of the family and we hate to leave them behind. My daughter stayed back from rafting to watch them as she does not care to be on the water. We loved the lower deck and also that you really can hear the river from the house. We used the BBQ for dinners and that was very convenient. The home was clean and stocked with all the supplies that we needed. It was very close to stores when we needed to pick up groceries. The amenities of the house were just perfect. My son lounged in the hammock while other teens played badminton and later on I enjoyed the hot tub with my boyfriend. We also liked the pool table in the other bldg. That was also a nice spot to hang out in. You can tell they put a lot of work in their property. It is well cared for and a very nice place to be. Our weekend was absolutely perfect. I plan to go back next summer when we go rafting again.
Our family stayed here during our vacation and absolutely loved it! The home was spotless (and I am super-picky when it comes to cleanliness) and charming. The kitchen was well-stocked with plenty of dishes, and cookware. We enjoyed being able to spread out and have our own space. At night we would open the sliding door since there was a screen, and loved being able to hear the rushing waters from the river. Our kiddos used the hot tub and pool table, and we played several of the games that were at the house. Pete was fantastic to work with, he really went out of his way to make sure our stay was enjoyable. I will gladly recommend this house to anyone staying in the Mt. Hood area. Thank you for such a wonderful first-time visit to Oregon. - The Cantrells, Katy, TX
Four couples spent the weekend celebrating our Mother's birthday. Everything was as good or better than the photos and descriptions portray. We loved the two living areas, spending a lot of time in both. The kitchen is well stocked. Everything worked well. We really enjoyed spending time in the hot tub listening to the rushing zigzag river. The two decks are very nice but unfortunately the rain did not allow us to spend much time enjoying them. Overall a very good place to stay. Pete responded to all our questions very promptly and was a huge help.
