Overview

High Country & Blue Ridge Mountains Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 5), creek on property, river nearby

Nestled in a very peaceful setting with a creek at the edge of the property, this cabin is perfect for enjoying early morning coffee, afternoon barbeques, local activities, or just relaxing on the deck and listening to the gentle sounds of the creek. Flowers and flowering trees planted around the cabin, deck, and down by the creek bloom at different times during the year and attract various kinds of butterflies and an occasional hummingbird or two. It has a large deck, rocking chairs, two wooden tables that fold out into a picnic table, outdoor tables/chairs, grill, and a hammock for your enjoyment.

This non-smoking cozy mountain get-a-way is about 750 sf, has all wood floors, ruff-cut lumber interior walls, washer/dryer, 2 bedroom/1 bath, sleeps 5, and is fully furnished with everything you could possibly need to make this a memorable vacation retreat. The master bedroom has a queen sized bed, 32 inch flat screen with blue-ray/wi-fi, and the guest bedroom has a futon bed with a full sized mattress on the bottom and a single mattress on the top with a 15 inch flat screen with blue-ray/wi-fi. There is a flat screened TV in the living room and wireless internet so that you may connect to your tablet, phone, or laptop. Satellite tv is provided as well as a wide selection of movies for all ages located in the quest room. Cell phone coverage may not be available at the cabin, depending on your carrier, which is a common occurrence in some secluded areas in the mountains, however there is a landline for local phone calls.

All sheets, bedding, blankets, and towels are provided and well as kitchen needs, utensils, and dishes. The woodstove makes for a cozy winter evening and wood can be purchased from nearby grocery stores if you choose. Summertime temperatures can be very cool and comfortable, however, for those who prefer the comfort of air conditioning, there is a portable air conditioner/heater conveniently located in the living room.

The cabin is located across the road from Elk Shoals Methodist Camp on the New River. The driveway is a ¼ mile dirt road along the creek which leads to the cabin. During winter we can experience times of heavy show which will require 4 wheel drive to get up the ¼ mile drive way. We do not have snow removal for the cabin or drive way so before booking the cabin during the winter months, please make sure your vehicle is equipped for handling heavy snow conditions. Raysweather.com is great for local weather.

For those who enjoy water activities, the New River is about a 5 min. walk down the driveway. Whether you enjoy fishing, swimming, tubing, kayaking, or canoeing, you are only a few minutes away. For those who enjoy winter sports, Boone, Blowing Rock and local areas are about 30 to 45 min. away.

West Jefferson is about a 7 min. drive into town and has plenty very quaint shops and perfect for walking from shop to shop, stopping by the ice-cream shop, farmers market, and dining. There is also a movie theater and the very popular Cheese Factory. Mt. Jefferson State Park offers hiking and scenic views of the area. West Jefferson and Glendale Springs are well known for The Church of the Fresco's, craft stores, antiquing, gallery hopping, golfing, shopping, restaurants, Shately Springs Restaurant, spectacular plays at the Arts Council, Christmas in July (first weekend in July), Fiddlers Convention (August), and a recreational park (Ashe Park) with tennis courts, softball field, pond, picnic tables, sheltered picnic tables, and hiking.

In Boone and Blowing Rock, within 25 to 30 minutes drive, you can find restaurants, shopping, crafts, Mast General Store, antiquing, book stores, theaters, plays and concerts presented at Appalachian University, spelunking, biking, fishing, hunting, rafting, canoeing, kayaking, and hiking. Boone and Blowing Rock also have a variety of ski resorts and winter sports such as skiing, and snowboarding as well as Grandfather Mountain, Tweetsie Railroad, Linville Falls and Caverns, horseback riding, and gem mines.

For those who enjoy a leisurely scenic drive, The Blue Ridge Parkway is about 5 miles from the cabin and features breathtaking views of the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains, biking, hiking, and nearby waterfalls. If you search the web for Blue Ridge Parkway waterfalls, it will provide information on the different waterfalls around the area as well as winter road closures on the Parkway.

So if you are looking for a peaceful get-away, this cabin is perfect. It was once a full time home and is completely furnished. Just bring your personal items, food, and prepare for a wonderful relaxing vacation. We have provided a book of local restaurants and a variety of activities in the area for those who wish to combine fun activities with peaceful relaxation.

This is a non-smoking cabin. Check in time is 4pm and check out time is 11am. You must be at least 21 years old to rent the cabin. Pets are welcome and there is no pet deposit, however, we do ask that owners clean up after their pets. We hope you have a great time and enjoy your stay!

Cozy and comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

This is our second stay in this cozy cabin filled with everything you need to relax. We cuddled by the wood stove and watched movies most of the cold weekend. We watched the snow falling out the big picture window Friday evening. We plan to return again next winter and stay longer.

Perfectly located quiet cabin

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was great for us - 2 adults and one child. It is small, but everything has its place! Little boy loved the bunk beds. Queen bed in other room is extra cozy, but you'll need like soft beds! Stayed warm with the wood-burning stove, bring your own firewood. You can enjoy walks right from the cabin - either down the hill to the banks of the South Fork of the New River or up some road tracks into the woods from the cabin. We'd stay here again :o)

Overall very nice stay in quaint rustic setting

  • 4 of 5

We went and stayed for what was a big winter storm. DO not go in the winter unless you have a BIG 4 wheel drive. It took us over an hour to dig down the 1/4 mile driveway to get out. Overall the cabin is nice with plenty of supplies. Only 2 things needed fixed. The wall heater barely worked, so I gathered wood and cut it from behind the house to keep warm. The wood stove flue would not open to allow smoke out before adding wood. As a result the hosue got some smoke when we tried to add wood. Not ideal. Everything else was perfect.

Owner's Response: Glad you had a nice stay. It certainly was a big snow. I know this was a quick reservation and I sent you a response through VRBO about needing a 4 wheel drive and that I did not have snow removal for the 1/4 mile drive way. I hope you received it before you left for the cabin. If there is a lot of snow, a car sometimes won't give enough clearance for the snow. I am so sorry for the inconvenience of the deep snow. The woodstove is a Vermont cast iron stove and has a damper at the top of the stove which allows the smoke up the chimney, and if not closed, will allow smoke back into the house. I hope the smoke was not too bad for you. I have forgotten to close it a time or two and got a face full of smoke. When my property manger called you Saturday to see if everything ok and working fine, had he known about the woodstove smoke, he could have helped you with it. I always want my guests to feel comfortable and I am so sorry that your experience with the heat was difficult. We send cabin directions and information about the cabin (including the woodstove) to each renter when they make a reservation, and I will look over the directions for the woodstove again to see if I can make it better and easier for the next renter. I will certainly make sure that the directions are more clear. Thank you for your response and I am glad that everything else was enjoyable for you. Your response will help me make it better for the next renter.

Wonderful Experience

  • 5 of 5

Private, clean, not far from town, (check out the cinema and cheese factory). The owners/housekeepers were kind to us prior to our arrival.

Exactly what we needed for our ideal getaway.

Highly Recommended.

Perfect for me and Charlie!

  • 5 of 5

Charlie (my little ShihTzu) and I do not want to leave! Ditto on all everyone else said plus the most comfy bed I've ever slept in. Bobby even brought me fire starters when I couldn't find any and had just returned from the store. Can't wait to come back and stay longer.
