Overview

About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 5), creek on property, river nearby

Nestled in a very peaceful setting with a creek at the edge of the property, this cabin is perfect for enjoying early morning coffee, afternoon barbeques, local activities, or just relaxing on the deck and listening to the gentle sounds of the creek. Flowers and flowering trees planted around the cabin, deck, and down by the creek bloom at different times during the year and attract various kinds of butterflies and an occasional hummingbird or two. It has a large deck, rocking chairs, two wooden tables that fold out into a picnic table, outdoor tables/chairs, charcoal grill, and a hammock for your enjoyment. There is also a fire pit and benches beside the creek.

The road leading to the cabin is a private dirt road running along the creek about one tenth of a mile to the cabin. This is a private road and in order to respect the privacy of land owners, we ask that renters limit transportation to two vehicles.

This non-smoking cozy mountain get-a-way is about 750 sf, has all wood floors, ruff-cut lumber interior walls, washer/dryer, 2 bedroom/1 bath, sleeps 5, and is fully furnished with everything you could possibly need to make this a memorable vacation retreat. The master bedroom has a queen sized bed with a soft pillow top mattress, 32 inch flat screen with blue-ray/wi-fi, cable, and the guest bedroom has a futon bed with a full sized mattress on the bottom and a single mattress on the top with a 15 inch flat screen with blue-ray/Wi-Fi. There is a flat screen TV in the living room and wireless internet so that you may connect to your tablet, phone, or laptop. Cable tv is provided as well as a wide selection of movies for all ages located in the quest room. There is a coffee pot and a Keurig, so bring your favorite coffee or tea to enjoy while sitting on the deck. Cell phone coverage may not be available at the cabin, depending on your carrier, which is a common occurrence in some secluded areas in the mountains, however there is a landline for local phone calls and free long distance.

All sheets, bedding, blankets, and towels are provided and well as kitchen needs, utensils, and dishes. The woodstove makes for a cozy winter evening and wood can be purchased from nearby grocery stores if you choose. Summertime temperatures can be very cool and comfortable, however, for those who prefer the comfort of air conditioning, there is a mini split system for heating and air conditioning.

The cabin is located across the road from Elk Shoals Methodist Camp on the New River. During winter we can experience times of heavy show which will require 4 wheel drive to get up the 1/10 mile drive way. We do not have snow removal for the cabin or drive way so before booking the cabin during the winter months, please make sure your vehicle is equipped for handling heavy snow conditions.

For those who enjoy water activities, the New River is about a 5 min. walk down the driveway. Whether you enjoy fishing, swimming, tubing, kayaking, or canoeing, you are only a few minutes away. For those who enjoy winter sports, Boone, Blowing Rock and local areas are about 30 to 45 min. away.

West Jefferson is about a 7 min. drive into town and has plenty very quaint shops and perfect for walking from shop to shop, stopping by the ice-cream shop, farmers market, and dining. There is also a movie theater and the very popular Cheese Factory. Mt. Jefferson State Park offers hiking and scenic views of the area. West Jefferson and Glendale Springs are well known for The Church of the Fresco's, craft stores, antiquing, gallery hopping, golfing, shopping, restaurants, Shately Springs Restaurant, spectacular plays at the Arts Council, Christmas in July (first weekend in July), Fiddlers Convention (August), and a recreational park (Ashe Park) with tennis courts, softball field, pond, picnic tables, sheltered picnic tables, and hiking.

In Boone and Blowing Rock, within 25 to 30 minutes drive, you can find restaurants, shopping, crafts, Mast General Store, antiquing, book stores, theaters, plays and concerts presented at Appalachian University, spelunking, biking, fishing, hunting, rafting, canoeing, kayaking, and hiking. Boone and Blowing Rock also have a variety of ski resorts and winter sports such as skiing, and snowboarding as well as Grandfather Mountain, Tweetsie Railroad, Linville Falls and Caverns, horseback riding, and gem mines.

For those who enjoy a leisurely scenic drive, The Blue Ridge Parkway is about 5 miles from the cabin and features breathtaking views of the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains, biking, hiking, and nearby waterfalls. If you search the web for Blue Ridge Parkway waterfalls, it will provide information on the different waterfalls around the area as well as winter road closures on the Parkway.

So if you are looking for a peaceful get-away, this cabin is perfect. It was once a full time home and is completely furnished. Just bring your personal items, food, and prepare for a wonderful relaxing vacation. We have provided a book of local restaurants and a variety of activities in the area for those who wish to combine fun activities with peaceful relaxation.

This is a non-smoking cabin. Check in time is 4pm and check out time is 11am. You must be at least 21 years old to rent the cabin. Pets are welcome and there is no pet deposit, however, we do ask that owners clean up after their pets. We hope you have a great time and enjoy your stay!

Wonderful Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at this quaint, well-stocked cabin. This secluded, peaceful property gave us the respite we needed, as well as our dog (she loved it!). West Jefferson main street has many eateries. Great lunch at the Hotel Tavern and friendly staff. Make sure you check out Ashe County Cheese as well. Enjoyed a wonderful hike with great views at Mt Jefferson State Natural Area. The sound of the creek in front of the cabin was so relaxing to enjoy morning coffee and/or an evening campfire around the fire pit. We will definitely return!! Thank you!!

Owner's Response: We're glad you enjoyed your stay at our cabin. The down town area has a lot of great things to do and the hike and views at the state park are wonderful. It sounds like you had a wonderful time there. We just added the fire pit by the creek last year. We're glad you had a relaxing time.

Dirty spider infested cabin with 59 artificial plants!!

  • 1 of 5

The cabin was cute but dirty. Dusty and spider webs everywhere. Spiders all over the place. We left a day early because of all the dust. I couldn't breathe in the cabin. Very disappointed. This was a much needed get away for me and my husband so we were very upset.

Owner's Response: I am sorry your stay was not an enjoyable one. We take a lot of time, effort, and pride in making this cabin a great experience. This cabin was my full time home and is my pride and joy. If my property manager would have been notified of any of these problems you experienced, it would have been addressed immediately. The cabin is in the woods and there are some small spiders that do get in which is pretty normal for being in the woods. We had pest control treat the cabin a few months ago. The claim of spiders all over the place did concern me so my property manager checked and did not see what you were seeing. However, I will ask our pest control company to come back and inspect it again and retreat if necessary. I do have ivy plants on the top shelves near the ceiling but did not know that this would be a concern to anyone. I will consider removing them for any issues they may cause. My son has asthma and was raised in this home and had never had the type of breathing problems you experienced, and again if my property manager had been notified of any problems, it would have been addressed. The cabin is cleaned and dusted after each renter and great effort is taken in making this a great experience. It is on a dirt road and dust will still settle even after cleaning, however, it should be very minimal. The cabin was cleaned and dusted before your arrival so your experience does confuse me. I am sorry this was not a good experience for you as we do want all of our visitors to enjoy this home and its surroundings. My property manager is very attentive and personable and any concerns he is made aware of is taken care of immediately.

Perfect little mountain getaway close to West Jefferson!

  • 5 of 5

Very nice and quiet place to stay. Perfect for a couple or a small family. It was stocked with everything we needed (t.p., paper towels, salt & pepper, trash bags, etc.). Bed was comfortable. We enjoyed walking and visiting the "beach" at the river across the road from the drive to the house. The flowers were in bloom for our July visit and the yellow and blue monarch butterflies were abundant! We enjoyed watching them as we relaxed on the deck. The little babbling creek was very relaxing whether were outside or in the bedroom with the window open! The only thing that was an issue was the size of the bathroom...very small...but it served its purpose. The location is great if you like visiting the West Jefferson area attractions. The price for the stay was great and the people in charge/owners are exceptionally nice to work with! I would highly recommend this little getaway. I hope we can stay here again!

Wonderfully peaceful

  • 5 of 5

We extremely enjoyed our stay at the cabin. The cabin had everything we needed and more! Just far enough away from the hustle and bustle of town to feel secluded but a short enough trip to be convenient. Our daughter enjoyed splashing in the creek while my husband went fly fishing down by the river. We were only there one full day but we came back relaxed and refreshed. Thanks so much for sharing your home with us.

Wonderful cabin!

  • 5 of 5

I'm sitting on the front porch listening to the creek while I write this review, this cabin is awesome!! Everything from the fire pit to the creek that you can hear pretty much anywhere outside at the property. Cabin has everything you may need...so don't overpack like I did. I do not want to leave in the morning. Will definitely book again!

GReat location!

  • 4 of 5

THe location was great. TUcked away for privacy but close to town. WE had everything we needed except for a hair dryer. We picked one up at Walmart, now we have one just for travel. LIght switches were hard to find throughout the house and there were quite a few cobwebs but no big deal. WE will still be returning for another stay. OVerall a great little house that is close to all the places we like to go.
