This is a wonderful spacious home with a fantastic view of the mountains from the back porch .Beds and furniture are comfortable and kitchen fully equipped.
BUT we come to the mountains from Florida primarily to escape the heat . The house has no AC (there is a ceiling fan but it only works 45 minutes at a time) and the primary ventilation comes from opening doors from the cabin wide porch to allow breeze to circulate inside. The first night the door to our master bedroom was open and we slept in the cold mountain air comfort we came for. Next day we closed doors before going into town and could not reopen. We could only open several doors across the porch inhibiting cool breeze circulation night and day.
We called Chambers and got no result just promises to send a handy man-none showed.. A very nice gent came out who could not fix the door and despite promises no one ever came back out. This resulted in warm days and nights . We could have stay in Florida and been cooler with our A/C. but nothing beats fresh ,cool mountain air - if it gets into the house.
Unless this problem is fixed DO NOT RENT THIS HOME !
This house was fabulous for my cousins and our families to share while in Highlands for a wedding. The rental company was easy to work with and provided nice little goodies upon arrival, like dish soap, a packet of laundry soap, and extra TP.
There is a lot of space in the house to hang out, including the gorgeous screened in porch overlooking the mountains.
We comfortably fit three cars in the driveway. You could do more, but you'd need to shuffle at some point to get them all out. Downtown is very convenient and close. We never walked because it's basically be straight uphill, but you could easily if your glutes need a good workout.
The wifi was terrible, and actually was worse than using our Verizon or AT&T data. Don't count on being able to use it.
Also, while there are 5 bathrooms, two of them are "his and hers" connected to the master suite, so it's not like there's a bathroom for every bedroom. The two rooms with single beds can share a bathroom upstairs.
Appliances and everything worked great (except we could not find a toaster, so we just used the oven to toast some bread). We really had a wonderful time. Thank you!
