About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

Casa Amarilla offers Zihuatanejo's most centrally located, first class accommodations in a newly constructed 3 story, 2 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath house with a dramatic 360 degree view of the bay, ocean, town and mountains.

This lovely home is situated atop Cerro de la Madera, just a 3 minute walk to La Madera beach and a 5 minute walk into town. An 8 minute walk will take you to the municipal pier for a short water taxi ride to Las Gatas beach - our favorite. Swimming, snorkeling and fishing are just some of the activities available in the area.

While the kitchen is fully equipped, if you don't feel like cooking - and who does while on vacation - there are numerous excellent restaurants within easy walking distance. Both bedrooms have air conditioning as well as ceiling fans. They are furnished with king size beds with US-made pillow-top mattresses. A washer and drier are on site as well as wireless, high speed DSL and a telephone for local calls. For long distance calling we recommend you bring a laptop computer with Skype or MagicJack.

During the day the view all around is unsurpassed, and looking at the twinkling lights of town at night is truly romantic. The living and dining levels are open all the way around, so there's almost always a pleasant breeze to keep you comfortable. If the breeze dies down, there are numerous ceiling fans throughout to take over.

Why Sidney Mehlschmidt chose Zihuatanejo

We discovered Zihuatanejo in the late Nineties and fell madly in love with the place. After renting for a number of years, we decided to buy a lot just down the street from where we used to stay and designed and built Casa Amarilla.

What makes this house unique

Unlike most places along the Pacific coast, Zihuatanejo is located on a bay, which offers swimming in protected waters. Going in the water on the beaches open to the ocean can be very dangerous.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Casa Amarilla is a wonderful Mexican home away from home and made our stay in Zihua even more magical and special. I recommend it highly and know you will enjoy your time there as much as we did. I can't wait to go back!

Superb home, spectacular view, perfect location

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Amarilla in the intriguing La Madera neighborhood. From the lofty height of the top floor, one has one of the most spectacular, breathtaking 360º view I have ever seen - with the bay and harbor to the south and the city of Zihuatanejo and the mountains above it to the north. It is an easy and interesting walk down stone steps to the beach and well located near downtown and many excellent restaurants. The layout is perfect for two couples. The home is immaculate, tastefully designed, architecturally pleasing and has gorgeous gardens. The weather was perfect, sunny and warm, in mid-December, 2016, as it was during our January visits several years ago. The two large master bedroom suites on the 2nd floor and the wonderful open air 3rd floor, with its lofty tile and thatch roof, is spacious and well appointed.

After being out and about all day, spending the evening on the 3rd floor with its comfortable living room, dinning room, and fully-equipped kitchen (plus convenient half bath) was the perfect way to end the day. The beds were most comfortable and having both overhead fans and air condition provided versatility. The manager was very helpful and gracious and the neighbors were very friendly. Casa Amarilla provides an excellent value for the price.

What a wonderful two weeks! From sharing our fresh coconut with a coconut-eating cat on a coconut plantation (while iguanas ran through the trees), to exploring estuaries in search of birds and crocodiles, to viewing a spring fed waterfall enhanced by all the summer rainfall, we've seen a part of Mexico I never imagined. We've met Mexican people in many different environments and they've all been unfailingly warm and polite to us. This has all been possible thanks to Sidney and his connections to tour guides, cab drivers and fishing guides. All this, in addition to his great taste in restaurants and his hospitality in sharing his warm house with us, has made for a great exploration of Mexico and a vacation we won't soon forget!

Highly recommended

The accommodations are par excellence! Good privacy for two families. The a/c works great in the rooms and apre dinner evenings are perfect for viewing the night time bay activity from the "observation" deck. WIFI works well. Perfectly situated for walking/ shopping in town 10 mins away. Especially delightful are early morning walks along the promenade where the fishermen sell their daily catch. A 5 min walk from the house will take you to the "Bistro Del Mar", a favorite beach side restaurant. Recommended!

Car: not necessary

Excellent fishing; the Zihua area is reputed to have the second best Sailfishing in Mexico. Catch-and-release is recommended for all billfish. Tuna and Dorado (Mahi-Mahi) are in great supply. We like to fish for a few hours enroute to Ixtapa island, where we have one of the restaurants cook some of our catch while we snorkel at Playa Coral.

Frostbite's First Timer Sheet is available, free of charge, upon request. It contains much information for first time as well as repeat visitors.

Our bi-lingual manager is always available to help make your stay more enjoyable. He also offers grocery shopping prior to your arrival.
