4th or 5th time at Cabana Club, 1st time in unit 5. Liked that we could see the Gulf from the 1st floor unit. King bed was excellent -- same for screened porch. Kitchen and eating area were good; appliances very good.
Now for what needs work-- and I hope the owner sees this and responds appropriately ... because the management office could not have cared less when I gave them this feedback upon departure. First are the immediate safety and security issues: the sliding door from LR to porch doesn't lock. I found a dowel in a closet which, when combined with the table radio in the lr filled the slider channel, and provided an element of security. Second, the tub/shower has no grab bars. We're not the only seniors vacationing in Florida.
Now the more cosmetic issues. The shower curtain liner was lousy with mildew ... which was met with an "owner's issue" response by the rental managers. The kitchen window that should look out to the Gulf was barely translucent due to what looked like salt sea spray buildup. And the window was so hard to raise that it can't really be cleaned. The whole window needs to be replaced. It should be one of the key features of the unit; but in this condition, it's an eyesore. Hooks in the bedroom closet and maybe behind the door would be nice, too.
Another tip for the management group: when giving renters the Cabana Club map on arrival, mark the entry door with an X. (The first door we saw was 5B, which we mistook for unit 5 in what is clearly marked as building B.) So keys didn't work, and we walked towards the water until we saw the screen porch door ... which was unlocked, as was the door to the living room. It looked like the unit we saw online, so I explored and eventually found the entrance to the kitchen which is found by walking around the back of the building.
We would go back next year, but only if we know safety/security issues, and at least some of the cosmetic ones have been resolved.
Everything in Lido, Longboat, Ana Marie was booked when we were looking for a place for a long weekend. Then we came across Cabana 5 and it did not disappoint. Clean and comfortable. Although we would have liked 2 bedroom, the sleeper sofa was comfortable for our adult children. Just a few short steps to the beach with beach chairs. Located close to St. Armand's Circle and great restaurants there, on Longboat and Ana Marie. Will definitely book again.
