Amazing Lake Cabin -- GREAT for Larger Family
We rented this cabin for a big of a family reunion up north. We had 8 adults and 4 kids in the cabin. The pictures don't do it justice, the cabin was extremely roomy -- everyone had plenty of room to move around. The kitchen was well equipped. The jewel of the house was the basement level master bedroom --complete with jacuzzi tub. The free firewood was a nice added bonus as we had a nice lakefront bonfire each and every night of our stay. The lake itself is pretty shallow, great for families with younger children -- it doesn't get deep until probably 50-yards from the end of the dock. Gene is an excellent caretaker and provided a wonderful overview of the house and surrounding area. The cabin was close to all of Northern Michigan's most famous sites. It was a wonderful stay! The only negative was some of the mattresses could be replaced and I definitely do not recommend Hoppy's Restaurant at the end of the street -- we had a very poor service and food quality when we went there. Our family would definitely rent this cabin again!!!!!
It’s great to get a nice review and renters opinions of the Cabin. It helps us as Management keep the Cabin looking the way it does and makes the next quests stay even better.
Management takes great pride in the Cabin so when we get a review we try and correct anything that might make it unpleasant. Most large Items which pertain to upkeep are worked on in the spring before the season starts. Mattress’s that need to be changed will be replaced before the next season.
It’s hard to comment on Hoppies Restaurant which is located within walking distance from the Cabin it is usually really good. Maybe it was just a bad night for them?
Thanks for the review!
Excellent place to stay!!
Awesome place to stay! We had 2 family’s stay and had a great time. It’s our first time on Burt but what a lake. Adults and kids loved it! Having activities already there at the cabin made it more fun. Kids used the kayaks and shuffle board court most the days we didn’t travel in our rented boat. Gene did a great job making sure we understood where everything was and gave us help to understand the lake and the surroundings.
We enjoyed the camp fires at night making smores!Cabin was in excellent shape down to where the fire wood is kept. One family flew into Pleston and rented a car which worked out great. Its close to most everything we planned to do.
Marina delivered the boat right to the front of the cabin and even picked it up at the end. Super cool! Crooked river trip was great using the locks and just getting away as there is so much to see on the lake. Inland waterway is something my kids will never forget. Amount of wildlife we saw on the trip was awesome! Our family’s have already confirmed a date for next year!

Cabin on Burt simply awesome
We just finished our 5th year in a row at this beautiful cabin. Clean cozy and big. Great kitchen with huge table..We love the rustic living room with all the comfortable furniture. Upper level bedrooms are very comfortable and spacious with 2 bathrooms. The suite in the lower level is huge with full bath and hot tub. There is plenty of parking too. Great pub with good food just up the road. Very friendly owner and fair. We booked year six today. You will not find a better play in the area. Highly recommend you give it a try.

Great Place for a vacation on Burt Lake
This cabin was a great place to spend a week with family and friends.
When we arrived we were greeted by Dolly who showed us around the cabin. She showed us the four nice bedrooms, a kitchen with a gigantic table, a wonderful living room, three bathrooms, the laundry room, a deck and a nice dock. There is a fire ring by the lake too. Dolly and her sister had just finished getting the cabin ready for our arrival and, I must say, they did a great job. Very clean.
The cabin accommodated our group of four couples easily. We totally enjoyed our stay and are talking about coming back again. Of course, having ideal weather always improves a vacation. We enjoyed shorts and swimsuit weather during the day and pleasantly cool nights.
We launched our boat at a marina in Indian River that we had used before. In the time we stayed at the cabin we made a couple of trips up the Crooked River. The river winds through the country and there are sections of the trip with and without riverside cottages. There is a lock on the river before entering Crooked Lake and the adjoining Pickerel Lake.
Burt Lake also feeds Indian River. For this vacation we only ventured through the river to Mullet Lake. However, you can take your boat out of Mullet Lake on the Cheboygan River, past town of Cheboygan and into Lake Huron. There is a larger lock if you go this way. The name of the whole water route is called the Inland Waterway and is a blast to cruise.
We did a little fishing. Although our catch was nothing to write about, my son and I had an experience we won’t soon forget. Noisy seagulls were swooping near our boat and one grabbed a fish in its beak. During the seagull’s struggles to gain some height, it dropped the fish. To our surprise, a beautiful adult Bald Eagle dove down and snatched the fish in its talons and cruised away. It was majestic.
If northern Michigan is your destination for a vacation, this is a good place to stay

Burt Lake was everything and more, love it.
This property was everything and more. Our family rents a cabin every summer and this was one of our favorites. The house is close to everything, especially water and wonderful sunsets. Our favorite memories this summer were the kids playing shuffle board in the backyard, my brother taking the kayak for a spin or the marina bringing our rental pontoon right to our dock, what more could a person ask for? We had four generations (age 4 days to old age 77) stay during the week and all were very happy with the choice this year. We all left feeling relaxed, rested, and made many memories that will always bring a smile to our hearts. Thank you to Gene the manager, he was kind and so thoughtful, it didn't go unnoticed. In fact we absently (we had not even noticed yet) left our spare set of keys at cottage and he called us right away to tell us he would mail first thing Monday morning, he went above and beyond, we were very grateful. This cottage has been updated, taken care of, clean and just felt homey, if this area works for you don't hesitate, well worth the money. We look forward to every summer the family getting together and making memories, on the water, around the fire pit, at the local restaurant, or just hanging out on the deck, if this is how you think of a vacation then give Burt Lake a chance, we are glad we did. This is a cabin we would consider again and again, thank you Chuck and Gene for a wonderful week filled with memories that time can never replace. Burt lake was everything and more, love it.

We rented the cabin for a long weekend. I contacted Gene to see if it was possible to check in early because we were arriving around noon. (4:00 check in). Gene told us that this shouldn't be a problem and it wasn't. Some of the previous reviews stated how awful this cabin was kept, we did not have or see any of this. Everything worked fine and the cabin was beautiful. We had 10 adults stay and had plenty of room for everyone. Everyone in our group enjoyed the cabin and are looking to book it in the future. Everyone has different opinions on places like this. Mine and the group that I was with rate this cabin a "5" !!!!!
Thanks for the review!
