Tutu's Place is a beautiful, private, beachfront home on a huge, white, sandy beach. See world class surfing right outside your door!
'Tutu's Place' is located beachfront on Oahu's famous North Shore. This hide-away is located about halfway between Waimea Bay and the World Famous Bonzai Pipeline. Tired of crowded beaches? Ours is often deserted.
This is no resort, just a beautiful and clean home for you to enjoy the hidden Hawaii. The house is the only structure on the large property and you will be its only residents. You will not be sharing your beachfront vacation with any other guests, residents, or property manager.
Your house is located literally steps (about 6) from the beach on a large lot at the end of a quiet street. This recently (10/05) renovated property has no neighbors on one side and a quiet neighbor on the other side a comfortable distance away. You'll never feel crowded at this special home.
Spectacular surfing, windsurfing, kite boarding, kayaking, fishing, snorkeling in the summer, awesome humpback whale watching in the winter, or just playing on the huge beach is right out your front door!
Tutu's Place has a large attached covered lanai (deck) overlooking the beach, 3 full size bedrooms, 1 full bath with shower, Master bath with shower and tub, and a 3rd full bath with shower serving the downstairs BBQ area. This special home has a large living room with hardwood floors and an open beam redwood ceiling which opens to the lanai, dining area, and full kitchen. The Master bedroom has a King size bed, the Queen bedroom has a Queen-sized bed, and the Twin room has two twin beds that can be pushed together, if desired.
Amenities include cable TV, VCR/DVD player, stereo, queen size sofa bed, comfortable living room furniture, and phones with free local calls.
The full kitchen includes a large fridge, a full size gas stove with oven, microwave, coffee maker, rice cooker, blender, toaster, all pots and pans, Tupperware, glassware, china, flatware, serving dishes, cooking utensils, paper goods, and kitchen linens.
The large upstairs lanai has comfortable outdoor furnishings and spectacular sunsets almost every night.
The large grassy picnic and BBQ area (which overlooks the beach and is covered by the upstairs lanai) has both gas and charcoal grills, a large wooden picnic table, chaise lounges, outdoor chairs, and an outdoor shower with hot and cold water to keep the sand where it belongs! There is also a full bath with indoor shower and large laundry room with washer and dryer that serve this downstairs area.
The property has a two car carport, and a large manicured grassy yard.
Activities include world class surfing, swimming, whale watching, hiking along the coast and in the mountains to one of the most spectacular and accessible waterfalls on the island, kite surfing, windsurfing, kayaking, fishing, horseshoes, volleyball, & being a beach bum!
There is also a manicured bike path which runs right past the house and takes you anywhere along the entire length of the North Shore. For the snorkeling or diving enthusiast, there is an excellent underwater marine preserve with lots of fish, turtles, and other marine life less than a 10 minute walk down the bike path or the road. Tutu's Place is located about 5 miles east of Haleiwa Town on Oahu's North Shore. This area is called the 'Gold Coast' of the North Shore due to its proximity to the best surfing beaches on Oahu.
What a beautiful experience to stay at this beach house, we had a large group of 9 plus 1 toddler and stayed for 5 days, we had so much fun here, we wished we should have stayed here the entire time we were on the island. The house has many amenties, and the location is just perfect. Enjoyed snorkeling at the reefs infront of the house, BBQ with the sunset and waves in the backdrop, having a outdoor shower was awesome too, even had some good ping pong rallies(the equipment is a bit worn but we still had a good time). Definetely will be coming back in the winter to experience the surf and more. Would have been awesome if we had been able to see John John Florence because he lives literally 3 houses away from this property.
My wife and I spent four days at Tutu's Place in late February. The house was very comfortable for the two of us and could have easily accommodated an additional four people. We had wanted to be close to the beach and were not disappointed in the location. The lanai was great and the yard was spacious and fairly well enclosed, the yard was separated from the beach by shrubbery with only one pathway to the beach. The beach and waves were great but would be concerned that the waves were too high for unattended children; however, there were several surfers just down the beach.
We walked to the grocery store and the nearby food trucks daily. There were several choices of cuisine and we were not disappointed by any of them.
The house was clean and although we didn't prepare any meals there seemed to be adequate utensils in the kitchen. The furnishings were dated but comfortable. The television service was limited but the internet service was very fast.
Wendy provided great service and we had no problems while we were there. We would certainly consider booking this house again if we are fortunate enough to return to Hawaii in the future.
Just arrived home today back to snowy Cleveland from 9 glorious nights at Tutu's place. This was our 3rd stay on this property with 4 trips total to Oahu. I can't say enough nice things about it. #1 Location, location, location. You are right on the North Shore Pipeline with one beach after another to enjoy ~ including YOUR OWN just steps away from the lanai. You can walk from your lanai to Sunset Beach or Rock Piles on the beach. You're a short drive west to Haleiwa or east to Turtle Bay. The local Foodland grocery store is a 2 minute drive or short walk away. Even driving down to Honolulu or Kaneohe, whether along the shoreline or highway, is easy. With a little research, you can find hidden gem beaches (Papa'iloa, Mokule'ia Army Beach) to escape to complete solitude, but OUR BEACH was pretty much our own most days. #2 The lanai. No matter if you are an active traveler like us ~ going hiking and exploring daily ~ or just want to kick back and soak up the big waves ~ you have it here with that view. The outdoor shower is wonderful to rinse the sand off and refresh before enjoying your lanai again. #3 Timing. We always go to Hawaii in the winter season so you're almost guaranteed wild trade winds and big surf. We never even noticed the fact that we didn't have A/C during our last three rentals here. In fact, during the winter we tend to use some of the extra blankets provided so we can sleep with the windows open and let the big waves lull us to sleep. The gated entry makes us feel safe and even though there is a public park next door, it's never been troublesome. #4 This is a traditional Hawaiian home on the beach on the "country side" of the island. It is not the Ritz Carlton, but it is equivalent in character!!! You must care for it like your own home. There is convenient laundry in the downstairs, plenty of linens/beach towels, parking space, and both gas and charcoal grills to enjoy. My husband and I visit every year and always default to this place because we have privacy, solitude, and comfort ~ unlike what any hotel can provide. NOTE: It's only the two of us visiting each time, so we use the second and third bedrooms for luggage, but think it's suitable for a family for sure! Already planning our next trip to this magical place!!!!
Our family stayed at Tutu's House in September as a mini family reunion. This house worked well for all six of us ranging from 21 months old to 63 years old. It was comfortable, a well stocked kitchen and the best views of the North Shore. The house was clean, had plenty of towels, bedding and family entertainment. The only difficulty we ran into is the trade winds weren't blowing and the temperature was in the 90's. The house isn't air conditioned, so was stiffiling. The manager was called and brought fans over that day, which helped a little bit. It turned out to be an unusually hot week and our family was very uncomfortable in the house. Just be aware when you come to Hawaii during the hot months and are intolerant of all day heat, look for a property that has air conditioning. Also the house sits along the busy 2 lane Kamehameha Highway with traffic going by day and night. Two of the three bedrooms face the highway so sleeping is a challenge. Most of the beachfront houses on the North Shore are situated that way. Being so close to the beach makes up for some inconveniences. All in all a nice property in a nice location.
My mother, sister, daughter and husband stayed at this property in February 2013. The photos are accurate and the location is great. The house was perfect for the extended family to share and we could have had more people stay with us. The beach is right in front of the property and there is a bike path and the highway on the other side. The noise from the highway is counterbalanced by the sound from the ocean – the whole reason for booking oceanfront property. While we were vacationing, the property was burglarized and some of our property was stolen. The owner and property manager were very compassionate and have handled the whole event with kindness and concern. Wendy has assured me that she has installed a security system on the property to prevent any unfortunate incidents occurring in future. You can rent any property on VRBO, but you can be assured that you will be treated well when renting this one.
We stayed in Tutu's Place for 10 days, and we had a lovely time. The house is right on the beach, and the views are magnificent. There were bikes, BBQ's, snorkeling gear, body boards, in the house for our use.
However, the house is on a very busy road, so on one side of the house there is a lot of traffic noise. The public beach park next to the house limits the privacy in the garden and on the lanai. Based on the description by the owner I thought the house would be too large for just the four of us, but that was not the case. The masterbedroom is spacious, but the other two bedrooms are interconnected and a lot smaller (also quite noisy because of the road). The bathrooms could do with another renovation, to be honest. The living room and kitchen area are quite spacious and well furnished.
Authentic is the best word to describe Tutu's Place, in my mind: the woodwork, the ceiling fans, the furniture, the kitchen cabinets, all show the character and history of this home. Maybe not the pinnacle of luxury, but in tune with life on the North Shore.
Golf: In Haleiwa you will find a great mix of eclectic art galleries, surf shops, and a wide range of excellent restaurants.
The house is also located about a 10 minute walk along the beach or shady bike path from the famous 'Bonsai Pipeline'. We are also a comfortable walking distance down the bike path from the North Shore's largest grocery store, Starbucks coffee shop, and the North Shore farmers market held every weekend. At the farmers market you will find an excellent selection of locally grown produce, foods, and crafts.
The North Shore is relatively quiet and undeveloped by commercial activities.
Ski: Very different from the rest of Oahu and yet only 60 minutes from the thrills of Waikiki Beach for those 'city getaway' days!
