PLANNING AHEAD FOR FALL, SEPTEMBER AND OCTOBER, WEATHER IS AN EXCEPTION, BEAUTIFUL COLORS, GREAT SUNSETS AND SEPTEMBER FISHING REMAINS THE BEST.
My husband and I and our 2 boys (ages 5 and 7) rented the cabin last year and couldn't wait to return this year. The cabin overlooks Pelot Bay, and we were able to launch our kayaks easily from the ramp. There is also a small dock that everyone loved to fish from - my older son caught the first fish on our vacation the day we arrived (large mouth bass). My husband fished from the dock early every morning (and evening) and caught different species every day, including small mouth bass, large mouth bass, pike, bowfin, pickerel, sunfish, and even a carp. The cabin is certainly old and rustic, and we did have to occasionally herd a couple of very large spiders out the door, but it was clean and the kitchen was well equipped for the few nights I cooked indoors. There is no cable or WiFi, and cell phone reception is spotty at best, but we spent the majority of our time outdoors. For the few rainy days, we brought our own puzzles/crafts/games, and the TV has a DVD player which we used at night. Though we never swam off the dock (too many weeds), there are several beaches nearby that the boys loved (Knight Point, Sand Bar, and Alburg Dunes). As for food and supplies, the Hero's Welcome store is just down the road, Kim's Snack Bar wasn't much farther, and a large shopping mall with Target, Best Buy, etc in Plattsburg, NY is about 45 minutes away (including the ferry ride). I would recommend this place to anyone who loves the Champlain islands and do not need or expect luxurious accommodations, and we look forward to staying there again next year!
A stay with us offers swimming, sailing, fishing, boating, biking or just plain relaxing. Beautiful Lake Champlain beckons from this island. Enjoy the 'sporting life' even a game of golf.
In our village is an 'Inn' for pub or full dinners by reservation only, others close by. A Methodist Church,County court house, antique & gift shop and a general store with deli for the morning paper, coffee and muffin to go, all within walking distance.
