Area: For those first timers that want full experience and better knowledge of this large water fishing, guide service is recommended. Book your guide early. However, Chief Lake and other nearby waters are well suited for all, including fishing, boating, and jet skies. Muskie, walleye, crape and northern are there for the challenge. The big Chip is known for its Muskie, so you may want to enter the $10,000 big Muskie contest. It's a 10 min. drive to many local lodges with pontoon and boat rentals, gas, and bait. Most also serve excellent food and fish stories. 15 minute drive to the casino, and 20 min. to Hayward with all its great shops and attractions. Make sure you see the world record musky, fishing museum, and huge candy shop. There are hundreds of miles of well groomed trails for snowmobilers, dirt bikes, and 4 wheelers with very little traffic and beautiful scenery. Fall colors are spectacular.
Special trails for hikers, bikers, and cross country skiers as well. Or time your trip for the big logging contest. See competition chopping, log rolling, and pole climbing at its best from a water side restaurant. See the biggest musky ever caught. You may wish to pack a lunch, or cook and camp out on one of the public islands on the flowage. The DNR has several set up for the experience. Unlike many over populated lakes, the Big Chip has vast areas of unspoiled woods and water. Golfers, bring your clubs. Come and enjoy the north woods and all it offers the family.
Our family fell in love with this location because the yard is spacious (2 acre lot) with an open view and gentle slope to the lake. We have made improvements every year since we purchased it, including new well and septic, bedroom addition, fish house, gas fireplace, and expanded entry way. We think it's the perfect home away from home.
Julie Elliott or Jill Harker purchased this house in 2003
Our family use to come to this area fishing every year. We spent 2 years looking for a place that was fairly open, quiet, and peaceful. We think this location is remote, but just the right distance from all the stores and shops in Hayward. We enjoy the easy access to all the surrounding lakes as well. We have found that every lake is it's own unique community.
Quiet is the word the most describes this side of the lake. When you cross over to the other side the sound of jet skiis tended to remove the serenity that I was seeking. The cabin is clean and spacious. The natural entertainment was a big part of the fun of the cabin. We brought along hamster food to maybe attract rabbits and squirels but the chipmunks and rabbits came right up on the deck to get food. Humming birds frequented the feeder. Otters made their morning rounds near the docks and loones sarinated us in the early evening. It was a fun place to sit back and relax.
Great place to stay for some much needed R&R. Plenty of room with great views of the lake. We watched a bear stroll through the back yard and also saw a few deer on the property. A friendly duck followed us from the dock up to the deck. Fishing was not as good as with our past visits to the area, but was still good. The guys give the fish cleaning house an A+. Would definitely stay here again! Thank you for sharing your home with us.
Our family stayed here a few years ago and it was great so we decided to stay there again this year. Things have changed drastically. The beds were quite nice and the kids had a great time with the paddle boat and The fish house was great for cleaning our fish. The house was clean enough, However, there were several issues this time around. Water pressure extremely low and there were actually times when no water would come out of kitchen faucet. There was a burner on the stove that didn't work for days and then all of a sudden it started working. The same thing with electrical outlets, sometimes they worked, sometimes they didn't - no rhyme or reason. The security alarm went off twice, the second time for at least five minutes-couldn't shut it off and it was ear piercing loud. No one could figure out why it went off. The kitchen lacked some of the "essentials" such as no electric beater, no griddle, and no steak knives. There were only two dish towels and wash cloths provided for kitchen, not nearly enough for a family of 5 adults and 2 kids. We will never stay here again. I would not recommend this property to anyone unless there are some extensive repairs
The house was in perfect condition. Plenty of room for our grown family. We enjoyed the 3 season room for morning coffee, meals and games as well as a beautiful lake view. The yard was perfect for outdoor games, watching wildlife, and campfires. The lake was nice for boating, fishing, and the paddleboat. The wildlife was entertaining from hummingbirds by the feeder to the chipmunks eating the cheese balls. Also saw eagles, loon, and even some bears form a distance. Awesome. The house was well equipped, clean, and we got great service. A very nice to place to relax for aweek. We would definitely reccomend this spot. Thanks for a great week.
