Big Lake Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 1 Bedroom, 1.5 Bath; private pond for fishing

Our large 6 acre retreat is very private, yet has convenient access to I-5 and the nearby tulip fields. Three acres are dedicated to the cabin, pond and surrounding grounds. You will feel very secluded as you can’t see other homes, including ours, on the upper 3 acres of the property. A perfect getaway for small families or a romantic weekend. Most of our guests come back annually and have made staying at our cabin a family tradition for birthdays, anniversaries or other special occasions. Although some of our guests take advantage of our convenient location to all that Skagit Valley has to offer, many come to the cabin and don't leave until their checkout time!

The grounds are well landscaped and include a turquoise half-acre pond. There's excellent catch & release barbless lure & fly fishing for trout. Because it's on private property, no fishing license is required. We have horseshoes for a evening of fun, or sit by the firepit. Then relax in the hot tub to finish the night off.

The home is fully furnished for all of your in home needs and is comfortable for up to four guests. The cabin has a Queen bed and double futon in the upstairs spacious master bedroom as well as a queen sized sofa bed in the living room.

The only thing you will need to bring is your clothes, a fishing pole, and a steak for the BBQ. We have satellite TV, DVD and wireless internet. (Note: there is no landline phone available.) The kitchen is fully stocked with all appliances, including a griddle, coffee maker, coffee beans and grinder, microwave, electric hot pot, slow cooker, and basic spices. As far as personal items, we provide a hair dryer, shampoo, body wash and cream rinse, so you don't even need to pack those. A full sized washer and dryer are available at the cabin for your convenience as well. Firewood for the fire pit is also provided.

Please check our calendar for availability so you won't be disappointed! Our weekends book way in advance, so if you want to book for a week long stay, you need to get in your request early. Winter weekdays are often open and can be booked last minute. To get an accurate quote, click 'detailed price' to enter the dates, number of guests, and whether or not you have a pet. Then click the 'continue to booking' button if you want to start the booking process.

If you have the time, check out the video some guests made after having their New Year's Eve stay at our cabin. It will really give you a feel for what our vacation rental is all about.

About John or Mary Davis

John and Mary have retired from 30+ years of teaching in Cordova, Alaska. We ran one of the first B&B's there, the Oystercatcher Bed and Breakfast. John grew up in Skagit Valley and was excited when his niece decided to sell this property. We have many relatives within a one mile radius, so we are surrounded by good people in this very special neighborhood.

Why John or Mary Davis chose Washington

Buying this vacation rental was the perfect transition for us in our 'retirement.' We love the beauty and accessibility this property offers us and our guests.

What makes this cabin unique

This property is very unique. Not only is our cabin much more secluded than most vacation rentals, you have your own private pond all to yourselves during your stay. We stock the pond with trout for your fishing enjoyment. Since it's a private pond, no fishing license is necessary.

Summer or winter this area has so much to offer. The summer is filled with fun things to do including the San Juan Islands, tulip fields 20 minutes away, or Big Lake which is less than 5 minutes away. The North Cascade pass has many trails to hike and much much more. In the winter, visitors come from all over to see the eagles. There is steelhead fishing on the Skagit river or enjoy trout fishing in our private pond off the deck. Mt Baker ski area is just an hour and 15 minutes door to door or Stevens pass ski area is about an hour and 45 minutes. If you're here to shop, the Outlet malls in Burlington are about 15 minutes away.

What a GEM!!!

  • 5 of 5

This hidden treasure was FANTASTIC! Private, serene and truly relaxing... In addition, the cabin was sparkling clean and cozy and stocked with everything one may need. The private pond was teeming with trout that like to be fed with "fish food" (looked like kitty food). Toss a few nuggets in and they go crazy! The kids loved it! Jumping in the pond off the dock for a swim and warming up in the hot tub kept our kids busy from morning until the sun went down. I am already planning our return trip!

Relaxation at it's finest!

  • 5 of 5

This was my 3rd time staying at this beautiful cabin. It is so peaceful & relaxing and John & Mary have thought to provide everything you might need & more. My grandkids loved fishing & swimming in the pond & I had a few relaxing afternoons floating away all my stresses out there! The surroundings are beautiful & I loved seeing the deer come by daily. I will definitely go back here again.

prefect remote private getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had every intention of driving to big lake or baker lake, but never left! the pond was perfect to lounge on all day! loved how private it was! the hot tub was prefect for at night! ate all our meals there. never needed to leave to get anything (sept more beer!) we had hammocks up! brought out our floats (although they do have some nice ones there)! Apparently it was the hottest days of the year. barely noticed :-) great summer getaway spot with friend.

Absolutely Amazing

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent our honeymoon at the cabin. It was so peaceful and relaxing. Of course we went out in the area and explored too but we're always excited to get back to the cabin. It was absolutely beautiful. The owners are very nice and the attention to detail they provide within the cabin is wonderful. We are so happy we chose this beautiful place and will be returning for sure!

Owner's Response: So glad it worked out for your honeymoon. We get a lot of couples who come annually for their anniversaries. We were so impressed with how clean you left the cabin. I could use a lesson on how you folded the fitted sheets. They were perfect! Hope to see you next summer!

Absolutely magical!

  • 5 of 5

After reading the previous reviews, I don't know if there's anything else left to say about this magical place, except book it now! Don't wait!

During the day we visited neighboring towns, art festivals, art walks, and even hung out with kangaroos in Arlington! During the early evenings, we crashed back at the cabin, walked the dogs, watched deer, played horseshoes, hot tubbed, and paddled around the pond as the sun set.

The cabin had everything we could possibly need -- it was as comfortable as if we had never left home!

Thank you so much, John and Mary, for providing such a perfectly detailed and magical escape that is just a hop and a skip from Seattle!

Absolutely wonderful weekend getaway

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here with our friends and couldn't think of a better place to get away. Close to town but very secluded. John and Mary keep this cozy cabin stocked with all the essentials- very accommodating. Even our pup thoroughly enjoyed his stay! We would definitely love to come back.

Many of our guests never leave the cabin and treat it as a true 'destination vacation.' However, there are a multitude of things to do in Skagit Valley. We are about a 10 minute drive to the Centennial Trail which offers miles of relatively flat bike trails. In about 40 minutes you can be at the ferry dock in Anacortes and on your way to one of the San Juan Islands for the day. If you're looking for shopping opportunities, the outlet malls in Burlington are less than 10 minutes away. We are also very close to Skagit Valley Community College and have had many parents stay at the cabin to be near their children who attend the college. The tulip fields in April are just a short ride to the other side of the freeway and right beyond them is the quaint town of LaConner with lots of shops and restaurants. Or...you can just stay put and enjoy the serenity of the pond and quiet setting here on our property!
