The following is a copy of a complaint that I have sent to Homeawy/VRBO regarding their new service fee practices and trying to force the homeowners to use their services even though Homeawy/VRBO offer a type of membership that allows the homeowners not to use their services. The only service they are providing for the fee is running the credit card and booking online. They are not a realtor selling a house (6%), bank, housekeeper or a management agency.

"I have listed my property with Homeaway/VRBO since 2004. We have endured the drastic increase in fees during the years when you have become a multi-billion dollar company. I am fully aware that you have changed your policy since hooking up with Expedia and are requiring a lot more profits due to that deal . I have managed my business and taken credit card payments myself for over 20 years. I do not need your help in this area and really think that it is not professional or necessary to put the following note on my listing:

"The owner has been emailed

You need to complete your reservation online and finalize payment on HomeAway. We can't protect your payment if we don't know you've booked through us."

The above statement is vindictive for acts that I have not done. That is not having you process my bookings and charging my guests 9% and me 4.5%. This must be a funny game for people in your company to see how big business can squeeze the little person. It certainly is not professional. Your company should start reading the blogs about it and its actions. It really needs a pr boost that is not going to come from such statements. Remember it needs the little people to get their big bucks income."

About Joan Boone

Travel and Architecture have been both profession and hobby for the both of us. We are always searching for that special spot to visit. We were lucky to find Casa Coyote when it was just a concrete slab and had the unique opportunity to design and customize the interior spaces and details. Through the years, we enjoy being creative and adding our personal touches.

Joan Boone purchased this house in 1990

Why Joan Boone chose New Mexico

Our house was one of the first ones built in Los Altos. And, of course, we picked it because we think it has the best location and views in the neighborhood. The property and house face the mountain and it is a short walk to the Clubhouse with indoor pool and outdoor tennis court.

What makes this house unique

Location, Location, Location. We really like the open floor plan which is designed to allow for separation of the dining room, kitchen, and great room and also a visual connection where the family can interact together.

Casa Coyote provides families and friends a memorable and unique vacation.

Casa Perfect

  • 5 of 5

We are a very fussy retired couple who have experienced a dozen or so VRBO rentals. We were fortunate to book this with our married daughter, son-in-law, and two grandchildren ages 3 and 5. We live in a house that is 100 years old and know what it takes to maintain an excellent place. THE SHORT VERSION OF THIS REVIEW IS WOW. The age of the home is somewhat of a mystery. I think it was built in the 80's. It looks like it has gone through a major renovation with new Pella windows. The house was spacious where everyone could spread out including an area for all the toys that we brought for the grandchildren. There was a ample supply of things that we needed and most important it was very, very clean. From our standpoint it was perfect. The pool was across the street, an easy walking distance even in cold weather. The small town close by was charming and the kids loved the skiing which was a short drive away. We hope to return to the house again just after the Thanksgiving holiday.

Lovely property exactly as described

  • 5 of 5

This was the first trip to the area for my family of five, and we absolutely loved this serene and comfortable house. The beautiful views across the plain to the mountains, the summer wildflowers, the purple sage framing the kitchen window... just perfect. The location a mile from Arroyo Seco was ideal for us, with a.m. walks to Taos Cow for coffee and great restaurants to choose from -- and about a 20 minute drive into Taos proper.

Casa Coyote made the trip

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful trip to Taos and what made it perfect was the relaxation and ease that Casa Coyote provided and all the fresh powder at the ski mountain.

Thank you again
