About Eva

Hi, originally from Prague, Czech Republic, Washington DC has become my second home twelve years ago when I came to study at Georgetown University. I live in this wonderful city with my two boys Alexander and Christopher, only few blocks from the rental property. We spend every weekend at a museum (Air and Space is the favorite), hiking through Rock Creek Park or on a fifty year old carousel in front of the Smithsonian Gardens and we hope that all our guests enjoy this vibrant city as much as we do.

Eva purchased this apartment in 2005

Why Eva chose Washington DC

As a single mom I need to provide for my two boys. I love to travel and so do my kids. Most of the time I travel out of DC and the situation helped me see that just as I love to leave the city and to explore other places, there are people who come to visit DC to spend time with their families. My two boys, my family, are the best critics of any place, as no furnishings are safe from their play and no vase is sacred to them. Our places are luxurious but ready to be used. I understand what most travelers need to feel comfortable since I have traveled extensively around the world to Africa, South and Central America, Asia and Europe . Please come and share your vacation time in our home. I promise that we will do our best to make you feel comfortable. This is the reason I bought my rental property.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Very nice & quaint home.

Very clean & comfortable beds + plenty of linens.

We had 3 sisters with 6 kids + enjoyed walking to the metro + Giant grocery store. We saved money by cooking our own breakfasts + dinners.

Convenient Location

  • 5 of 5

We (8 adults) stayed in this Columbia Heights Townhome from 7/2 to 7/9. This home was exactly as pictured. It was clean and convenient, being only a 5-7 minute walk to the D.C. Metro and Target. Eva was a great host and great to work with. Would not hesitate to stay here in the future.

Ideal location for a DC stay!

  • 5 of 5

This was a fantastic place for our group of nine (six adults, three children) on our recent family gathering in Washington. Everyone raved about how perfect it was -- just a 10 minute walk to the metro station every day, and a quiet block to come home to after a day of seeing the sights. We didn't use a car the whole time we were there. The home is very clean and comfortable, and very family friendly (the living room is well stocked with games, puzzles and DVDs). As fans of old homes (my parents live in an 1892 San Francisco Victorian), we especially enjoyed the old hardwood floors and woodwork throughout the home.

The neighborhood was fun to explore and has a lot of history -- we liked walking around and looking at all the old homes with their unique architecture. There are lots of good restaurants within walking distance, as well as a large grocery store that includes a sizable selection of organic products. We appreciated the binder Eva has for guests with her recommendations of nearby places to eat and shop, and there are brochures and guide books in the home for just about every major nearby attraction. People in the neighborhood were very friendly as well.

Just two things I would note, the hot water seems set at a rather high temperature, so anyone with small children may want to adjust the water for their child before a shower. The showers are also a bit funky -- the shower heads are high up, so shorter people get more of a fine spray while showering (something I'm used to, since the shower heads in my old home are just like this, but might take some getting used to for people used to a fuller blast of water). Otherwise, no major issues! We would stay here again in a heartbeat -- D.C. is a fabulous city, and this was the perfect place from which to explore it!

Great place to stay

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in this great, big place for 5 nights. With 6 people (4 adults, 2 kids), we had plenty of room to spread out. The neighborhood is quiet, pristine, and felt very safe. The owner is very responsive and accommodating (thanks!!). The location is also excellent with nearby conveniences including dunkin' doughnuts (very close), starbucks, target, and of course the metro. We did not have a car. We had everything we needed including dishes/appliances, and had no troubles. Even when we all showered in the morning, we did not run out of hot water.

The reasons we gave it 4 stars instead of 5 are minor, but include: 1) Some of the light bulbs were out, 2) The light in the living room hangs right over the couch where you hit your head, 3) 2 of the metal chairs in the living room were broken I think (that or just very uncomfortable). I didn't mention any of these issues to the owner during our visit because we were busy, and honestly it wasn't that big of a deal.

For downtown DC, this is a huge place in a quiet safe neighborhood at a good price with everything you need. Overall, a great value for the price.

What an Incredible Rooftop Palace in DC!

  • 5 of 5

I joined friends mid-week and thoroughly enjoyed myself at this clean, blear, bright, beautiful, and ideally-situated property in Columbia Heights. I enjoyed being able to walk to U-Street Corridor and 14th Street, but being in a more residential setting, conveniently distanced (just 10 or 12 minutes) from the hustle and bustle.

My impression of a place to enjoy feeling at home with friends could not have been better! The views--both downstairs and up--were of a street with beautiful historic townhouses. From the upstairs master bedroom, you could sit in the window and look out over the stone-tile rooftops. I really enjoyed mornings here. If found the apartment have great natural light in the daytime, even in winter.

I've actually stayed here twice and would highly recommend it to any of my friends and family, especially for parties of 3 or 4 (i.e.. two couples, or a couple and two singles). The kitchen was impressive as well--plenty of counter space, with good kitchen equipment--something I see to be essential if your interest is really in creating a sense of home when you're away from home. And...if you don't like to cook (which I personally can't imagine--although I know there are a lot of people who don't) then 14th street is a beautiful walk of just 10 or 12 minutes along relatively quiet streets. Uber works very well here also, and seems quite inexpensive, and if you want to go further, the Columbia Heights station is conveniently only a 7-minute walk away.

Honestly, staying at this apartment on Girard Street made me interested in visiting DC more often. I'm really grateful to know of such a place to stay. Book ahead! I think it's popular....

Great Family House!

  • 5 of 5

We traveled with 10 family members (4 adults - 6 kids from ages 5 to 14) to DC for five days and this was a perfect place for us to stay. It was very easy to get on the Metro at Columbia Heights (a five minute walk) and there were plenty of amenities close by and walkable (Target / CVS / neighborhood markets). We ate in most nights so having a kitchen for us was a lifesaver (very nice Viking range/oven). Eva was very responsive when we had any issues or questions and was super helpful in helping us get visitor parking permits before we arrived so that they were in the house when we got there. It was very clean and the sleeping was perfectly adequate for our age mix. We will definitely look to rent a house on future family adventures and would stay here again in a minute if we come back to DC.
