About Karla Langlotz

I live in Florida year round and get to the mountains as often as I can

Karla Langlotz purchased this house in 2005

Why Karla Langlotz chose North Carolina Mountains

After living in Florida for quite a while, I missed the beauty of being in the mountains. I like the trees, and the views and the cooler weather. I had visited friends who own a home in the same area and loved it so, in 2005 I purchased my mountain house. I was immediately in love with the house because I love the sensation of being inn the treetops! When you stand on the upper deck, it feels like the trees are all around you. I am happy to share the beauty and so I decided to make my home a vacation rental.

What makes this house unique

As a person who travels with my pet, I felt it was important to make our house pet-friendly. I believe that those who travel with their pets are responsible pet owners and trust they will monitor their pets' behavior while staying in our home. We want all our four-legged friends to have a fun vacation too

Guestbook comments from the owner

Want to say how much we enjoyed week's vacation at your mountain home. The view was truly breath-taking, and so was the drive up the mountain! We didn't get snow, but enjoyed frosty mornings and bright stars at night. Thank you for allowing us to share in the blessing!

Awesome but tricky

  • 5 of 5

House was great! Enjoyed the decks and there was plenty of room for us. House is up high with gorgeous views and everything worked as advertised. I probably wouldnt have rented it if i had known how steep and twisting it is to get in the driveway. We had five harleys and it was a difficult task in the dark every evening. Not for the inexperienced for sure. If you are in a car, no problems.

Memorial Day week 2016

  • 4 of 5

The weather was perfect all week, the mountain view was awesome every morning, we had 5 riders, the riding was great through the Great Smokey's and all around, the driveway is for the experienced riders for sure, a challenge we looked forward to each day, steep with a tough curve, very tricky with a trailer as well. The parking pad was more than sufficient. Great location, but the town doesn't have much going on daily, and shut's down by 8pm. Having the house with kitchen was a blessing, cause we always normally each out each night. Overall a great stay!

Close to Perfection

  • 5 of 5

Let me start by saying this is a wholeheartedly positive review. So while I may list a couple of things to be aware of, they're just that....not criticisms.

We used this property for a family motorcycle trip. There ended up being 7 of us, and all agreed that it was pretty nearly perfect. The photos in the listing do a good job of representing the property. No surprises. Inside, there was plenty of room for everyone. And the home was well-stocked with all of the necessities. The property is fairly secluded, with only one other house on the road as far as we could tell (and that property was empty during our stay). We spent each of our seven evenings sitting on the upper level deck enjoying the wooded setting and the nice (but narrow) view. The location is great. Close enough to Franklin to be convenient, and all of the area attractions are within easy reach. For us, the attractions were great motorcycle roads such as the Blue Ridge Parkway, US 129 The Tail of the Dragon, the Cherohala Skyway, and so many more. But the area is also full of hiking, rafting, tubing, waterfalls, shopping, etc.

Some things to be aware of if you are considering the property:

1. It's in a gated community. That's a good thing, of course, but it does require remembering to bring the gate opener with you when you leave. There is a keypad at the entrance that could be used, but that's not super convenient.

2. The road leading up to the property, although paved, is really steep and narrow, and has one super tight, blind curve. It was kind of scary on heavy motorcycles. If we'd have met a car on the way up or down, things might have been dicey. But to be fair, there aren't may properties up there, and we never did encounter another vehicle.

3. The driveway is quite steep, but is also paved. Not a problem...just something to be aware of.

4. The recycling center, where you have to take your trash, is around 6 miles away. Not super convenient. Especially if you are on motorcycles. Luckily, we had a car there as well. If not, I'm not sure what we would have done. Again this is not a knock. We knew about the trash situation up front.

5. Pay attention to the written directions that the owner sends to you. GPS's seem to want to bring you in another gate that requires a bunch of driving on super narrow, winding roads. If you come in through the Watauga Road gate (as directed in the written instructions), it's a straight shot to the property.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your thorough and honest review. We appreciate receiving feedback from our guests' perspective. All descriptions of the road/driveway are accurate, however I would add that our mountain roads are well planned to allow for ease of vehicle passage even though they are somewhat narrow and steep in places. We have never heard of a bad road experience in our community. The only other thing I'll add is that we trim our trees periodically to keep the view open and wide but Mother Nature keeps them growing back....a trimming is scheduled in October/November this year. Perfect place for entertaining family and friends

  • 5 of 5

This lovely house was our home for six weeks. The kitchen was well stocked and the spacious house was perfect for entertaining family and friends. We even hosted a baby shower for my daughter and son-in-law, who live in Franklin. The winding road to the house was a little intimidating at first, but sitting on the deck enjoying the cool breezes and the gorgeous views made the drive worth while.

Franklin and the surrounding area has so much to offer. When not sitting on the deck, we were sightseeing and enjoying relaxing tubing trips just minutes from the house. We saw an awesome performance of The Little Mermaid at the Smokey Mountain Performing Arts Center, enjoyed Pickin on The Square in downtown Franklin on Saturday evenings and even took a basket making class offered in town. The forty minute trip to the resort town of Highlands for shopping and lunch is definitely a treat.

Working with Karla was a great experience. She promptly addressed any issue that came up during our stay. We loved our stay here and would absolutely book again!
