About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3 Baths, (Sleeps 9-12)

Whether you're having a morning cup of coffee or a glass of wine before dinner you will enjoy the phenomenal view from the multi-tiered decks of this beautiful mountain retreat. Our 2500 square foot house features both open and covered decks for outdoor fun. There are picnic tables, porch chairs and a gas grill.

We are located in a mountainside, gated community with streams, a waterfall, a duck pond and a picnic area. The house is set on a quiet road with a concrete drive for easy access with only one other house on the same road. You can enjoy taking long walks or bicycle rides right inside the gates of the community.

There is such a warm cozy feeling in the large living/dining room area with its stone, wood-burning fireplace, cedar paneling and vaulted ceilings; you can see the mountains easily through the sliding glass doors. Our kitchen has everything you need - just bring the groceries. The downstairs family room has a wood stove, 2 sofas and a table for playing cards or games.

The upstairs features a large king-size master suite, with a private bath and doors that open onto the upper decks, as well as a queen bedroom and one with two twin beds. These two bedrooms share an additional bathroom upstairs. Downstairs has a queen size bedroom and an adjoining bathroom with a full washer & dryer. Additional sleeping accommodations are available in a queen sleeper sofa and a day bed with a trundle downstairs.

There are so many things to do in the area - hiking, biking, golf, parks, fishing, wildlife, horseback riding, shopping, restaurants, sightseeing, white-water rafting, gem mining, antique shopping, scenic drives, gambling just to name a few.

Nestled in North Carolina's southern mountains, Franklin is large enough to offer most everything you need, yet still have the peace and tranquility of the mountains. Spectacular waterfalls, fantastic hiking trails, pristine fishing streams and abundant wildlife are just a few of the many things available in this area. Each year Franklin offers numerous festivals and special events including Pickin' on the Square which features live music each Saturday night June through October.

About Karla Langlotz

I live in Florida year round and get to the mountains as often as I can

Karla Langlotz purchased this house in 2005

Why Karla Langlotz chose North Carolina Mountains

After living in Florida for quite a while, I really missed the mountains. I like the trees, and the views and the cooler weather. I had visited friends who own a home in the same area and loved it so, in 2005 I purchased my mountain house. When you stand on the upper deck, it feels like the trees are all around you, just like being in a treehouse. I am happy to share the beauty and so I decided to make my home a vacation rental.

What makes this house unique

As a person who travels with my pet, I felt it was important to make our house pet-friendly. I believe that those who travel with their pets are responsible pet owners and trust they will monitor their pets' behavior while staying in our home. We want all our four-legged friends to have a fun vacation too

Guestbook comments from the owner

Want to say how much we enjoyed week's vacation at your mountain home. The view was truly breath-taking, and so was the drive up the mountain! We didn't get snow, but enjoyed frosty mornings and bright stars at night. Thank you for allowing us to share in the blessing!

Lovely weekend in the mountains

  • 5 of 5

What a great getaway house! The house is spotless and pleasant, with lots of beds, and it is well stocked with kitchen supplies, linens, towels---basically everything you could need. Karla is very thorough, professional, and easy to work with. The house is surrounded by woods, so you don't even have to drive to find a hike. There's a nice rocky creek in the community a short walk from the house that is fun to explore. Wonderful view from the deck as well.

The house is perfect for families.

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our second stay in this comfortable, well appointed house. The large living spaces on 2 floors and double decks allow for family time together and apart : ). The kitchen is especially well furnished with everything you need. We ate our meals outside on the upper deck enjoying the beautiful fall mountain views. The wooded area around the property is perfect for nice walks with a stream that entertained my grandchildren for hours and has a pavilion for picnicking . There is plenty opportunities for outdoor activities in the Franklin area, too. We enjoyed a great hike to the very accessible Wyah Bald where several trails cross including the Appalachian Trail. Beautiful views! Highly recommended. We did have an issue with the shower but after calling the housekeeper, her husband came the same day and fixed it quickly. It was a very good week.

A Beautiful Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first stay in this home. It was perfect for our family of 8, including comfortable parking for 4 cars. It was very well stocked with everything you could possibly need.

The view was just as pretty as the photo, with lots of glass doors and windows, letting the view in to enjoyl

We all took turns cooking Cajun dinners, enjoying them at the large dining room table. The covered deck allowed family gatherings where we enjoyed a beautiful view.

As with most mountain homes with a view, the road is a little curvy getting there and the driveway has a little bit of a grade, but it is paved and easy. We had no problems navigating at all.

We truly enjoyed staying in this beautiful home!

Awesome but tricky

  • 5 of 5

House was great! Enjoyed the decks and there was plenty of room for us. House is up high with gorgeous views and everything worked as advertised. I probably wouldnt have rented it if i had known how steep and twisting it is to get in the driveway. We had five harleys and it was a difficult task in the dark every evening. Not for the inexperienced for sure. If you are in a car, no problems.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We appreciate having multiple perspectives from our guests. We have had others on motorcycles who thought the access was easily manuevered. Karla Langlotz
