Its modern kitchen, huge newly tiled pool, deck and covered lanai, new tropical furnishings and lovely gardens reflect the gracious Hawaiian living that has made the islands famous.
We have just installed a photo-voltaic system to minimize our carbon footprint. Air conditioned throughout, you will love our huge family and living rooms that open to the pool and yard. The new custom kitchen reflects our open island living with views of the pool, living and family areas. There is a Guardian Pool Fence that we will put up for all families with non-swimmers and children under 6, so that you can relax knowing that your little ones are safe. And, it is fully stocked with quality cookware, utensils and a starter supply of paper goods and fresh fruits for when you decide to to cook in and/or use the large stainless gas grill instead of eating out in Kailua's outstanding restaurants.
From fresh flowers and boogie boards to a blender for tropical drinks, nearly everything is provided for your perfect Hawaiian family vacation. We focus on the details that are important to you!
In compliance with the Revised Ordinances of the City & County of Honolulu, we rent to just one family per month.
Terminology clarification as you evaluate properties:
1. 'Beach side' does not mean 'Beach front.' 'Beach side' *should* mean that the home is on the beach side of Kalaheo Avenue and there will be no streets to cross to get to the beach. Please ask the property owner if there are any streets to cross to get to the beach.
2. A 'Beach Front' home is actually on the beach.
3. 'Ocean Front' in Kailua means there are only rocks in the front of the property and there is no beach. You will need to drive to get to the beach.
4. 'Ocean View' means that you will have a view of the ocean, but the home is likely up on a hillside.
Questions to ask other property owners:
1. Do I have to cross any streets to get to the beach?
2. Is there a private beach right-of-way for my use? If not, how far is the public right-of-way?
3. Will we be the only renters on the property?

About Carolyn Hiatt
Past president of the Rotary Club of Honolulu Sunrise, Carolyn is active in a variety of community service activities. She is a recently retired technology teacher for K-5 students at an (pk -12) Independent International Baccalaureate-certified World school right here in Kailua. In her spare time, Carolyn enjoys walking on the beach, traveling, and spending time with family.

Why Carolyn Hiatt chose Kailua
This has been our family home since 1971, but I started the vacation rental in 1987 as the children grew up and and moved away to start college. It became a perfect opportunity to keep and maintain my home while meeting interesting people from around the world.
What makes this House unique
This is a residential neighborhood with wonderful, friendly neighbors. This is why we specialize in families. When my own family arrives the grandchildren run, bike, and play with the neighborhood children.

A Wonderful Stay at Hiatt Hale
My family and I rented the Hiatt Hale for 9 nights in 10/08. We wanted to stay in Kailua because of its beautiful beaches and quaint town. The house was exactly as advertised: clean, spacious, well-stocked. The lanai/pool area was great and we loved spending time out there and grilling out. The tiki torches were a nice touch. There were plenty of towels and dishware. The owner, Carolyn was gracious, welcoming and accommodating. We enjoyed the proximity of downtown Kailua (1 mi) with its shops and restaurants. There was a shopping center less than 1/2 mi away with a grocery and places to eat. There were boogie boards, chairs and an umbrella in the garage to use on the beach. The welcoming fruit basket was lovely. We would definitely return here again and would recommend it to anyone. I wish we didn't have to leave!
Splendid time in Kailua
We were traveling with our extended family (six adults, two kids and a baby) all the way to Hawaii to find a really great home and a perfectly nice and courteous owner. We spent a whole month there hanging by the pool, surfing, body boarding, walking on the beach, soaking the sun, hiking and doing a lot of other great stuff...Kailua is a beautiful place and the house owner knows all its secrets and places you shouldn't miss.
Great time in Kailua
We really chose the right home to spend a wonderful week with our 4 children & friends! It is so difficult now to be able to spend time altogether! We could all enjoyed our time there, going to the beach (so close!) watching the sunrise, swimming, boogie boarding, walking on the beautiful beach, hiking or just relaxing around the pool or even in the house where you can isolate yourself if you wish. Dinner time on the covered patio was a delight, the 9 of us sitting around the table or preparing food on the BBQ! We never went to the restaurant! Such great memories! I would definitely come back & recommend it to my friends...why look for another place! Great location & nice welcome! It was perfect! Just have to come back as we didn't have time to taste those donuts from the Portuguese bakery!!!
Hawaii Christmas House
This property was the perfect place for our family to celebrate the holidays. Plenty of room for all 11 of us and also room to visit with our daughter and local family of four. We loved the Christmas tree all decorated and the kitchen was so well equipped we prepared most meals there, including great grilled feasts and the whole Christmas turkey and ham and all the fixings. The pool area is just beautiful and the beach just a short walk away was all we needed to enjoy Hawaii. But we did make short trips to Kailua just a short bike ride away. And we loved Buzz's on the beach for dinner and Pupus and of course walking for coffee at Kalapawai market and a walk to Pinkys to watch football. Wish we could visit every year!
Our 3 generation family of 11 loved vacationing at Hiatt Hale. We would highly recommend this property for a family vacation. There was plenty of room, adequate bathroom space, beautiful outdoor spaces, and lovely furnishings throughout. The kids loved swimming in the private pool while parents barbequed family dinners. The beach, a very short walk away, was beautiful featuring amazing sunrises, mild surf, and soft sand. The home was in a perfect location for sightseeing in Oahu. Many places such as Diamond Head and Pearl Harbor were just a short drive away. If we were to plan another vacation to Hawaii we would return to Hiatt Hale! This property is sure to please people of all ages and interests!
Wonderful Family Vacation Home
Our family of 11 stayed for 10 days in December & January. House had everything as advertised. The furnishings were lovely & the kids enjoyed the pool. They also had a great time at the beach.
This is the first time I have ever had less than a 5 star rating in over 25 years in the vacation rental business. I spoke with my guest who said, "Having never rented a house before I guess I was apprehensive in giving a 5. Everything was great. The only thing that I was very uneasy about was the light coloured furniture & carpet in the living room. I spent a great deal of time worried that someone was going to spill something."
