Absolutely Delightful 3 BR/2 Bath Home-Large Lot with Beautiful Trees! Sleeps 6
About Lorie Wiebrecht
I was born in Bar Harbor and my entire family lives or works only 5 minutes from our rental homes. My husband was born in Wisconsin and he fell in love with MDI the first time I took him there in 1996. He knew even before I did that we MUST have our own property there so that we would always have an excuse to go north whenever we could! Mt. Desert Island is such a beautiful place - we both are so thankful that we can experience it many times a year and I must say that we are struck by the beauty and the solitude every time we go 'home.' We hope that you truly have a wonderful time whether it is your first experience or you have been visiting for 20 years. My Dad's motto is...'If you come to Maine once it won't be your last time.' Of course he is pretty bias on the subject - having lived in Bar Harbor all his life! I wish everyone could get one of his Island tours-they are awesome to say the least! He started working as a chauffeur at age 15 and he can tell some stories. He and my Mom owned several restaurants and motels and even developed the largest campground on the Island, Bar Harbor Campground which my youngest brother now manages. Seems like our family has been in the hospitality trade forever and...with all that experience we have certainly learned how to take good care of our guests!
Lorie Wiebrecht purchased this House in 2005
Why Lorie Wiebrecht chose Bar Harbor
We love the land which is approximately 2.6 acres. The open, grassy area is big and level but the perimeter of the property is surrounded by big beautiful evergreens! There are many other varieties as well so the land is interesting during the fall season. The location is peaceful and quiet yet the property is not very far from anywhere on the Island. The wildlife is plentiful-you might see several deer just a few feet from the windows and the wild turkeys and other birds are all around. We have had rabbits, chipmunks, squirrels, ducks and even a bear was spotted while eating a neighbor's bird seed last year!
What makes this House unique
This property is on a private road with only 7 other homes yet it is right on the Island Explorer (free) Bus Service route. You can take the bus and travel all over the Island all day long and even take your bike along. We also own the home next door and the two lots combined are almost 7 acres. Now when you live in a city where the houses are so close that you can hear your neighbor walking across her hardwoods floors with the windows CLOSED you really know it when you have a peaceful spot where you can relax and focus on the sounds of nature!!! It is heaven for us and we hope that it will be for you, too!

This is a fantastic property. Owner has thought of everything needed. Great to find a place that provides sandwich bags, foil and plastic wrap. Basic kitchen spices, oil and flour. Cookware is very clean and in great condition. I absolutely cannot say enough about the cleanliness of the home! Beds are very nice and furniture is in wonderful condition. Great location to everything.
Will definitely stay again and will recommend to others.
AMAZING ACADIA RETREAT!
My parents and son came to celebrate my Dad's 80th Birthday and see a place he has always wanted to - fall in Maine and Acadia National Park! We could not have picked a better and more relaxing place to stay. Lorie & Carl's retreat was so clean, had all the amenities needed and much more! We really felt like we were at home. Traveling with a toddler is never easy, but Lorie made sure I had everything I needed to make the trip easy. - high chair, kids toys, etc. She went above & beyond by answering questions before my arrival and during our stay. She was always very prompt! We definitely plan to return to Maine and know where we will be staying :) Thank you for a wonderful trip!
Just as advertised!
We had a very nice stay. The home is extremely clean and well appointed...everything we wanted or needed was right there for our use. The location is centrally located on MDI, making it easy to get almost everywhere, and the location is quiet and peaceful. We would not hesitate to recommend the rental!
Clean, Comfortable and Relaxing
My husband and I enjoyed our time at Acadia Retreat while we explored Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. The property was as described. It was clean and well maintained. We enjoyed the privacy. Lorie was personable and very easy to work with. We would definitely refer Acadia Retreat to friends and family. The house was well stocked and very clean. We were most comfortable.
Thanks to Lorie for a great stay in Maine.
Wonderful House. Wonderful Location.
Acadia Retreat was a wonderful house to stay in and fit our needs perfectly. The listing and pictures are accurate - actually they did not show how absolutely clean this house was. This had to be the cleanest house we stayed in over the years. Also, it was well stocked with items that aren't usually in a rental (paper and soap products, cooking supplies, trash bags, cooler, etc.) which was so convenient that we did not have to pack them for the flight or buy them when we got there.
The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed. The beds were very comfortable and we especially liked the outdoorsy feel of the sun room. Wi-Fi was very good as were the televisions and the TV service.
The area of the house is very quiet. It is away from the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor, but close enough that we were there in 15 minutes and were centrally located so that we could reach all of the other towns in about 20 minutes. The back yard is nice and open.
One of the best things about the house was dealing with the owner, Lorie. She was fabulous to work with and provided great directions and instructions as well as ideas on what to do while staying on Mount Desert Island. She seemed to truly care that you enjoyed your stay in her house. We will definitely stay here on any future trips back to the area.
Our family of five stayed at Lorie's house and loved it! It's close enough to the town of Bar Harbor and the national park that it only takes a few minutes to get there, but far enough out that you feel like you have your own secluded spot in the woods! With three teenagers, we all had plenty of room to spread out a bit and not feel like we were on top of each other. She has thought of everything - lots of games and books in the house, plenty of towels and blankets, fully stocked kitchen, great laundry facilities. Everything was spotless and she communicated with us regularly. Would definitely stay there again or recommend to friends!
'Acadia Retreat' is conveniently located just 2 miles from the bridge onto Mt. Desert Island and 9 miles from downtown Bar Harbor. The Visitor's Center at the entrance of Acadia National Park is less than 10 minutes away. The Island Explorer which provides FREE bus service to Bar Harbor & other Island towns stops just up the road. Ellsworth which is 10 miles away has more restaurants & good shopping. Don't forget to go to the L. L. Bean Outlet store, Marden's and Reny's which are all located on High Street (Route 3). They have 'Wicked Good' stuff!
