Traders' Haven is a spacious 5 bedroom home occupying the entire second floor of the Mountcastles' building on historic 8th Avenue, Pass-a-grille, St. Pete Beach. The Mountcastles have operated a small trading company importing folk art from dozens of countries for twenty years. They are currently working overseas with their five children.
This unique home is bright and airy with high ceilings and windows all around. Oriental rugs, high gloss wood floors, antiques and folk art from all continents of the world add to the ambiance.
Accommodations: 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen (three full size refrigerators) 8 Beds: 4 Queen sized, 1 Double, and 3 Double Futon Beds sleep 16 comfortably.
An enclosed air-conditioned porch/living room for lounging, dining and watching sunrises and sunsets covers the entire south face of the building.
There is also a large open deck with table and chairs on the north side. This deck overlooks a Tropical Garden - filled with jasmine and lush tropical plantings. We have placed a giant jacuzzi (8 feet in diameter, with a waterfall and lighting) in the privacy of this walled and locked garden.
Enjoy great sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico and sunrise over the Intracoastal waterway in Boca Ciega Bay while dining on our porch! The Gulf of Mexico is just a few steps to the west and Boca Ciega Bay with the Intracoastal waterway is just a few steps to the east.
Traders' Haven enjoys a great central location! Historic 8th Avenue, once listed in Ripley's as the shortest main street in America, offers several very unique galleries and boutiques, including Mountcastle International Trading, Co., Ltd. on the ground floor of the Mountcastle building. The Merry Pier is at the east end of our block offering fishing, tackle and bait, wave-runners, sunset cruises, deep sea fishing trips, and a great boat shuttle to Shell Island. Downtown St. Petersburg is just 15 minutes away. Restaurants, galleries, boutiques, and shops on our block are listed below.

Our idea of a great day: Start with some time at dawn walking on the beach, watching the light change and smelling the sea. A little later return to 8th Avenue to the quaint Seahorse Restaurant -just a few steps from Traders' Haven at the Intracoastal end of our block, (or to the Hurricane or the Beach Concession, also on our block) for breakfast ... morning paper, seagulls screaming, and salt air - cannot be beat!! Fishing on the pier or a lazy day on the beach is always a delight. A long soak in the jacuzzi-spa and an afternoon nap in the shade in the garden is truly relaxing. Walking back to the beach for another fabulous sunset is a local tradition.
Thank you so much Rosemary and John! Trader's Haven is a place we hope to come back to again and again. The location is just perfect...just steps to the beach, shops and dining. And only a short drive to Eckerd College where our son is a student. The apartment is so spacious...everyone had plenty of room. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need. We feel like we discovered paradise on earth!! It's no wonder that everyone is so friendly in Pass-a-Grille!! Thanks again Rosemary and John for all of your help and suggestions! The shish-ka-bobs from Skinners were great!
Unfortunately we won't be going back. Rosemary the property manager was so sweet so I hate to even comment but I feel I need to as I don't want others to be as disappointed as we were. The place was filthy, the furniture is ripped and dirty, the dishes in the cabinets had to be re-washed as there was food left over on them from the previous tenants. 2 of the queen beds were horrible, 1 of them had dirty sheets on the that needed to be washed and I'm not sure the bathrooms have ever really been thoroughly cleaned. It rained one day when we were there and as we were sitting on the couch we felt water hitting our heads (the roof was leaking). When we called about this we were told that "oh yea, it happens sometimes". The one positive is that it's close to everything so access to the beach, shops and restaurants is nice. If space and convenience is what your looking for than this is perfect but if you have children that like to walk around in bare feet and you want a place that is clean and maintained then this is not the place for you :(

My entire family gathered to celebrate Mom's 90th birthday. The house on St. Pete Beach lived up to its ad. We slept 19 people plus more on air mattresses, sleeping bags, and cribs. I would highly reccomend this home to a beach loving family. You are 2 blocks away from the gulf, from restaurants, and convenience stores. The huge play area, in a fenced yard, is perfect entertainment for small children. The jungle like trees keep the deck and patio cool. Towels and linens, washing machines and dryer, pots,pans, dishes,glasses are all provided. The house was air conditioned throughout plus there were fans. The managers were friendly and easy to deal with. We had a fun, safe, enjoyable week of being with our extended family. Hope you experience an equally enjoyable time during your stay. Patricia
A wonderful place for a vacation for the whole family - decorated with individual touches, comfortable and spacious. We particularly appreciated the abundant equipment for our toddler grandsons - port-a-cribs, beach toys, etc. and the convenience of the beach -just down the street. Altogether a lovely spot.
Greater Tampa Bay: Downtown St. Petersburg is just a 10-minute drive and Tampa is just 30 minutes away! These cities offer all variety of entertainment: Major League Baseball and football stadiums, soccer and hockey teams, the St. Petersburg Pier, Busch Gardens, Adventure Island, Lowry Park Zoo, Tampa Aquarium, Sunken Gardens, Ruth Eckerd Hall, the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, and the American Stage, the activities of the University of South Florida, Eckerd College, and University of Tampa, and numerous parks.
Golf: And, a romantic dinner on the porch or deck or an evening out at one of the fine seafood restaurants nearby completes a great vacation day. Why drive anywhere, when you can have one perfect day after another right there on Pass-a-Grille??!!
You do not need a car! The Tampa International Airport is just 30 minutes away and the airport limo will drop you at our door.
Historic 8th Avenue (National Register), the shopping and entertainment district of Pass-a-Grille, is just out the front door at Traders' Haven. The Merry Pier across from the Seahorse Restaurant at 8th Avenue offers deep sea fishing, boats to Shell Island and Egmont Key, dolphin and sunset tours, jet-ski rental, and bait and fishing tackle.
Children all enjoy the adventure of taking the boat shuttle from the Merry Pier to spend a few hours on Shell Island.
Ski: 8th Avenue has several restaurants, bars and some very interesting galleries and boutiques, including ours: Mountcastle International Trading Company, Ltd.
Restaurants on our block include: The Sea Horse, Black Palm, Banana Leaf on the Grille, Brass Monkey, Hurricane, Seaside Grille and Perk Fiction.
Galleries, Boutiques and Shops on our block include: Mountcastle International Trading Company, Ltd., Bamboozle, The Nature of Art Gallery, Paradiso, Little Room for Art, Evander Preston Jewelry, Salon on the Grille, U.S. Post Office – Pass-a-grille Branch, and the Merry Pier
The Tourist Trolley stops on our block, giving easy access to all of St. Pete, Treasure Island, Madeira, Redington Shores and Clearwater Beaches.
