Nestled on 4 acres, our 2400 square footage house offers a nice open main floor with kitchen/dining areas filled with sun light thanks to three floor to ceiling windows overlooking the yard (with magnificent butterfly bushes) with Southern exposure. Sliding doors open from the dining room to the deck - very convenient to entertain in summer time with outdoor furniture and BBQ.
The living room is a cozy seating area with sofas facing a burning stove which heats up nicely the room in the winter.
Adjacent to the living room, our TV/family room enables you to relax in a comfy sofa or for the kids to be creative at a desk to do some art work or homework depending on their mood... that room is also filled with sun with a Southern and Western exposure with a bow window facing the pond. A nice place to observe wild life sometimes...
On that same floor, there is another section with a bathroom (shower), the laundry room and a guest bedroom with a queen bed.
Upstairs, you will find the master bedroom with a queen bed, very bright (three exposures and bow windows), facing the yard and a balcony looking over the stream and the pond. Across from it there is a room with a single bed and a toddler bed and the last room is set up with two single beds. There is another bathroom upstairs with bath tub/shower (combined).
We fell in love with Woodstock and vicinity couple years ago coming up from the city to 'check it out'.
We grew up in France, in the South, in the vineyards where the sun and outdoor experiences were daily - we wanted our kids to grow up with significant experiences with nature and thought this could be a very cool place for them. We love summers' outings and skiing in the winter, so the Catskills is the great combination of all we needed!!!
Right away the laid back atmosphere of the area, the wonderful Catskills region with so many outdoors possibilities all year round and the open mind of this specific 70's movement suited us.
Fanny Bruguier purchased this house in 2007
Finding this house was not easy... We knew we wanted open floor plan, a lot of light but at the same time to feel cozy inside on winter days.
We found it and would be more than happy to share it with our guests!
We wanted our girls to be able to run, bike, go in the woods and our property is set on 4 acres on pretty flat ground which makes it easy for them to go have fun and for us to watch them, relaxing from the deck or from our Adirondack chairs/hammock in the yard. The house is contemporary with a country farm style, filled with sun light and very convenient to live in. We like to have friends over and the open floor plan is great to do so; have dinners in the living room as well as entertain on the deck with outdoor furniture and BBQ.
Our daughters and we enjoyed the beautiful surroundings and our stay at your house. Thank you for kindly renting it out to us. I could just imagine that the outdoors would be even more inviting when the weather turns warmer. We will try and reflect our satisfaction in a review.
I couldn't tell you why, but when we were looking around for a place to stay this wasn't our first choice - but what I can tell you is that when we got there we realised it was a great choice! The house has a lovely feel to it - spacious but still cosy, comfortable lounge, nice big bath tub and just the right amount of furnishings to give it some warmth and character without feeling cluttered.
The kids loved the garden, especially the outdoor ping pong table.
And the location - mid way between Woodstock and Saugerties, was a perfect base for exploring the area on a lovely fall weekend.
The house and grounds were beautiful and we had use of every amenity one would want. We felt comfortable immediately. My son and his girlfriend especially liked the hammock. We only wish we could have stayed longer and taken advantage of the fire pit. Thanks for a wonderful weekend.
Fanny's house is lovely. Big enough for a large family but still feels cozy and super comfortable. Everyone felt right at home as soon as we arrived. I was a bit concerned at first because there is no AC but actually we were fine and at night it cooled off beautifully. The grounds of the house are extremely peaceful with a pond (lots of turtles) an awesome tree swing (my kids loved that! ) and a fire pit that was perfect for roasting S'mores. We had a great time in Saugerties/Woodstock. The house is located in between both villages so it was super easy to visit swimming holes (which my city kids LOVED) and some great restaurants as well. We will definitely be back. Fanny was always very helpful and even left a great list of really good restaurants on the fridge. We had a great time, thank you Fanny!!
I stayed for a weekend with 4 friends on a hiking trip. We loved the home as soon as we pulled into the driveway. The house is large and comfortable and had everything we needed. The grill, fire pit and wood stove are all pluses. We're already planning our next trip!
We had a wonderful Mother's Day weekend at the house and particularly liked its green surroundings. It is a very private and peaceful property and we saw plenty of birds enjoying the spring weather and some shy ducks in the little creek. The house is spacious (we were a family of 5 but there was plenty of room) and has a warm and comfortable atmosphere to it. The kitchen is well-equipped to prepare nice family dinners. Once the weather is more cooperative, we assume that the barbeque and ping pong table will make it even more attractive for a family outing. We would definitely recommend this property for people who are not looking for a manicured and stylish urban home but a relaxing house close to nature.
Thank you, Fanny, for sharing your home with us.
Family from Rochester, NY
We stayed at Fanny's home a few weekends ago while attending a wedding in Woodstock. It was truly perfect: tastefully appointed without being over stuffed. The layout is open and ample but still cozy. And the land is private with a great stream and little foot bridge where my kids spent most of their time trying to catch fish (I think there were none to be had). She has really thought of everything. She even has 2 different types of coffee makers! The pictures really don't do this house justice. We will be back. Thanks Fanny!
Charming Country Farm Style house located on a very cute back road, halfway between Saugerties and Woodstock (10 min drive) and only 15 min from HITS grounds.
Right in the location of the Hippies' area from the 70's, Woodstock and Saugerties have a lot to offer: restaurants wise, great artistic lives (Byrdcliff Colony of Art, the Waam...Saugerties Art Studios Tour...), Woodstock Playhouse for fantastic Broadway performances, Bear Theater for some music concerts, Maverick concerts festival (music in the woods), the mythic Levon Helm's Studio with the Midnight Rambles....the movie festival in the fall...fabulous horse shows at HITS ... Saugerties garlic festival...
Great outdoor experiences for all ages, from horse back riding, golfing to playing tennis... You will never be bored!!!
In the mood to stretch up your body and get some positive energy? Yoga Studios are numerous and fabulous...Shakti Yoga, Euphoria, WoodstockYogaCenter... to name a few!
Feel like enjoying the Catskills Mountains? Overlook Mountain is fun to hike - from the Fire Tower the view on the Hudson Valley is gorgeous on a bright sunny day.
Boating, canoeing or even tubing, water skiing? a quick drive to Saugerties' marina and you will enjoy the beauty of the Hudson River; feel the peaceful atmosphere at Saugerties' lighthouse...and enjoy the summer's sunset (with a glass of wine... it's awesome).
In the winter, there are plenty activities with ski areas near by (Hunter, Windham, Belleyare), the Kawanis Ice rink in Saugerties or simply sledding in the yard!
Very kid friendly, the property is set on 4 acres, the ground is pretty flat (easy to play on, bike on etc...) with a stream passing thru, a cute little pond with 'Manhattan Island' where kids love to catch frogs, salamanders... There's a swing for little ones or even grown up to have fun with, different outdoors games and adirondacks chairs to relax as kids are playing in the yard.
The Southern exposure of the house and floor to ceiling windows offer a great sunlight all day long - even in winter time!
A big red barn/garage is also part of the property - we use it as tools, toys storage but our kids use it as a 'art studio' sometimes...
