Cottage, 3 Bedrooms, 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6)
About Kris Riera
Same owner last 50 years, rebuilt in 1989. Yes, everything had to be carried up the 78 stairs. I also remember carrying sleeping children up those stairs after nights sitting around a bonfire at the beach. The ability to walk up stairs without assistance is suggested. Those stairs though have served as my daily workout and kept me healthy.

Easy and lovely area
Life in the trees
The setting is wonderful. We spent a lot of time relaxing on the deck and around the fire. Sadly, the lake is so high it's hard to enjoy beach time, but we still went down frequently.
We loved our stay in this home and living among the trees for the week. It is beautiful, clean and very well stocked. It is not mapped on Google maps, Forest Rd starts at the end of Shore Acres.
We enjoyed our stay amongst the trees. Everything we needed was provided for, even a water cooler with extra bottles. We had a wonderful Haven once we conquered the stairs. Nice place!
Beautiful house in a beautiful spot!
We had a great stay. The house is lovely and just like it appears in the pictures--everything in the listing is accurate. The location is also terrific--it's very nice to have a semi-private beach, but it's also a short drive to downtown Grand Haven and the city/state park beaches. The water is high this year (everywhere on the lake), but if you walk a couple hundred feet to your left when you reach the beach, you can find enough width to relax on the private beach. If you want a wider beach, it's nice to have those other public beaches nearby. (PJ Hoffmaster State Park, just north of Grand Haven, is also worth checking out.) The house is the best-supplied of any rental I've ever stayed in. I mean, they have marshmallow sticks and corn-on-the-cob holders!
There are a couple of downsides, which I will not downgrade the rating for since they are well disclosed and many potential guests won't be bothered by them. The first is the stairs, obviously an obstacle for some depending on your mobility. We managed them with a 2- and 3-year-old, but slowly (these stairs are not for little ones to do on their own). The one thing about the stairs that I hadn't seen mentioned is that they have pretty substantial horizontal gaps between them--up to a couple of inches. I assume this helps with snow clearance/drainage in winter, but it does require extra care, because the gaps are big enough for very small legs to slip through. The kids never slipped, but my dog did several times and needed help getting her leg out. So keep a close eye on dogs too! The second downside is the lack of A/C, which will not be an issue for most of the year. We were there in July and even then, the first five days were great, because it got cool at night (and there were plenty of fans), but the last couple of nights were a bit hot. Needing to keep the windows open made the humidity in the house very high during this particular humid week--my dog's chewable prescription meds dissolved into powder, for example. If you come during a humid week, be prepared for this (I wished I'd kept the meds in their original container with dessicant, for example, instead of a non-airtight pillbox).
We'd happily come back despite these issues--they're just things to be prepared for. (Despite the steps and meds, this was also a great place for our dog, btw--the semi-private beach is dog-friendly, as is the city beach before 11 and after 5.) Thanks for a great week!
Tree house getaway
Beautiful cottage up in the treetops, great location for everything around Grand Haven. Just be prepared to climb lots of steps. We justified our ice cream at Temptations with our extra exercise on the stairs!
