Why Beth Sexworth chose St Petersburg Area

Dolphin House has a wonderfully open and comfortable feel. Each room has lots of windows, the floor plan and fantastic and the location in was everything we were looking for. I had been traveling to the area for several years and purchased Palm Cottage in 2002 while kicking around at open houses after a business trip. Dolphin House came on the market the next year, and we had the opportunity to purchase it and The Sand Dollar at the same time. While separate by a fence and gate, the two properties can be rented together to accommodate groups of 8-10.

Gulfport is a lovely community, without strip malls and high-rises, so that it actually feels like home every time we arrive. There are tons of local events throughout the year - a little something for everyone. You can walk most anywhere you need to in the Gulfport area - to the beach, to the Art Village, to the dog park, to the library, to the Casino, to many restaurants and live music venues and to the pier and Veteran's memorial park. Easy access to the Pinellas Trail and you can travel for miles up the Florida west coast.

What makes this house unique

We really love the design of the home. There are two separate living areas, so there's more than one place to relax and gather outside of the bedrooms. The split floor plan - with two bedrooms, one bath and one living area in the front and one bedroom, one bath and the second living area in the back - make it perfect for families or couples. You can stay under one room yet have a little separation and privacy. The front of the house can actually be closed off from the kitchen via a pocket door, and there are double French doors between the other side of the kitchen and the back living area & dining that may be closed as well. There are several large windows along the side of the house along the kitchen and dining area that look into the tropically landscaped sideyard and path. I love to open the blinds and feel that I have brought the outdoors in, no matter the weather. The entire house has tile floors which feel fantastic on bare feet in the summer, and each of the bedrooms is generously sized. There's a nice covered porch in the back with patio seating, plus a patio table off the porch on the pavers, for outside dining. We just love it!

Reviewer Comments:

We've stayed at this house five times over recent years. It is so pleasant, comfortable, roomy and well-located near restaurants and the beach at Boca Ciega Bay. Owner-manager Beth deserves great credit for designing and maintaining this and her other properties. They are not fussy or pretentious--just done with great style and attention to detail, such as: lighting, HD cable tv package, decor, comfortable furniture and landscaping. And--Dolphin House is pet friendly, with a lovely enclosed yard and patio, perfect for our golden retriever. The split design means that you can have friends or relatives stay with you, with their own bedrooms (2), bathroom and living room, with the kitchen and dining area in between the two split areas.

Reviewer Comments:

Location was close to beach, but not a great walking neighborhood after dark. The very outdated pink guest bath was not shown on photos, but was really bad. Kitchen cabinets greasy on one side, neighbors loud, can hear bar music at night on weekends, grill still old food on it and tank was empty (not thrilled with new tenant responsible to fill, some areas of house not cleaned /overlooked as admitted by property manager. As a regular VRBO renter, I will not be back to this one. Look up the google streetview before you stay here.

Owner's Response: Her comments when she first checked in: · Laundry room still had waste in garbage can · Outside garbage cans were completely full today upon arrival · Kitchen and living room had dirt on floors · Grill still had burnt chicken and food on grates and was left with completely empty propane tank · 4 pieces of decorative grass in backyard were laying out with roots up (as if they weren’t thrown away?) · Back patio could have been swept/ blown off, lots of leaves The waste in the laundry room garbage can was lint from the dryer which I had accidentally tossed in the previously-cleaned can. The outside garbage cans were full because trash pickup had occurred before the last guests left. The decorative grass was another oversight on my part as I had pulled it up and not placed it in the trash. The patio had been swept earlier in the day, but it is the time of year when leaves from the oak trees are constantly falling. The floors could not have had dirt as I had mopped them myself on hands and knees! There was no mention by her of any other issues with cleanliness at any point during her stay. The outdated pink guest bath is just that - outdated. But the tile walls and floors are in pristine shape, they just don't happen to be a popular color. And given that there were only supposed to be two of them, and they could use the very updated master bath in the back, I'm not sure how this affected her stay. We've never had any issues with noise by neighbors. You can sometimes hear bar music very faintly when outside if the wind blows just right. Finally, she texted me that they were leaving on time on departure day. Yet our maintenance person reported going there 3 times after that in an attempt to do some maintenance and found them still there over an hour later, with the front door standing wide open while it was pouring rain. We welcome you to check Google street view!

Reviewer Comments:

We had a lovely time at Dolphin House and found the accommodations, especially the split floor plan, perfect for 6 adults and an infant so there was separation during the baby's fussy period during the night. We had no complaints, other than the noisiness of the AC compressor outside the master bedroom that was a little distracting when I went to read for a while in the beautiful back yard. The location was also perfect for attending a family wedding at the Gulfport Casino.

Owner's Response: Thank you Doris and we are so sorry about the compressor. The problem with the AC noise has been fixed, hopefully at least for the next 10 years or so as we put in an entirely new Trane heat pump system 3 days ago. It was a little touch and go during your stay! Beth
